  1. just to put a damper on todays game, here are two NYorker articles on violence, football, and concussions that i havent seen posted here recently http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2011/01/31/110131fa_fact_mcgrath?currentPage=all and from 2009 http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2009/10/19/091019fa_fact_gladwell?currentPage=all crazy stat, in 1905, 18 college kids died from football! TR had a summit at the White House that lead to the forward pass that saved the game from banishment.
  2. who said illinois turned a corner? PSU is average at best, and they had to deal with travel/weather issues.
  3. oh lord, hit me with some pictures or something, that sounds off the charts http://www.royalbaconsociety.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/bacon-wrapped-chicken.jpg Recipe later, once I find it. I was fine reading this thread until I saw this picture, and now I am searching through my house trying to satisfy my craving but nothing is going to ease my pain until I make them. I doubt I go to a Super Bowl party this year but I will probably make these even if it is just me watching the game alone. thats healthier than what we usually do, which is use little smokies sausages instead of chicken breast. as for the buffalo chicken dips, the 2 sticks of butter seems excessive. we just do some mix of the reds sauce, low fat ranch and low fat cream cheese with any other cheese you want and cubed chicken breast. its far from healthy, but its got to be a little better that way.
  4. I love Richmond, but it seems most of his points are underneath, out-maneuvering post players bigger than him. I havent seen much outside the lane. He doesnt seem to have either a 15' jumper or the ability to beat a guy with 2-3 dribbles to get to the basket. He's going to have develop a hell of a lot to get any playing time in the NBA. I think its safe to say we get 3 years out of him. The way Paul, Richardson, and lately DMac have been playing will erase any notion that Weber can develop guards.
  5. It's tough to defend 20 second half free throws
  6. Why was jereme sitting so long?
  7. it seemed the illini got some homer calls early, i'll admit. sullinger hasnt received sean may treatment he has grown used to yet. with a game like this from jereme we win at Wisky.
  8. that wont make the MLBPA happy, but he doesnt need them for anything so too bad.
  9. yes, although he probably didn't feel like dealing with the pain and rehab that it would take to get back to pitching in the major leagues. that being said, almost everyone in the major leagues and probably on planet earth would take $12 million to do that, so more power to him. Yeah more power to him, but he should've at least tried and get that $12 million then flip it back to the community or charities or something.... instead of giving it back to the owners? Still, either way, it's not something you see everyday and bravo to Meche... Also... I wonder how the MLBPA gonna take this? I doubt that they'll let this go and let Meche give $12 million back, even if he does retire. When the last time they let a player give money back to the organization??? They should just have some guy that looks a little like Gil show up at ST like nothings wrong.
  10. Nice replay showing what a bitch Davis is. White guys are really sucking tonight.
  11. this town will collectively crap itself if they dont sign Pujols. Apparently he wont negotiate once ST starts, so the next 6 weeks will be interesting.
  12. Seemed like Green was throwing his shoulders around and getting calls like Sullinger does. I hate that / wish we had someone who does that.
  13. If I can get a NW alum to send one of their players Proactiv would that be a violation? Would solve 2 problems.
  14. an injury was mentioned earlier, what was it?
  15. Sullinger is pretty unlikable.
  16. Not a good game from Dmac, but the underclassmen were terrible. Richmond, Richardson, Paul, Griffey all forgot to show up. Battle could rest on defense guarding DJ when they were in man. I'm done getting mad at Davis, just accept him quietly getting boards and no offense.
  17. no, but the way i see it the first idiot that can get to the ball could hike it to anyone in particular, who could spike it, regardless of the status, location or number of other players on the field. you would lose some yards, but the clock would stop and you would have time to get your field goal unit out there. this couldnt happen in the NFL because of the 10 sec runoff. Maybe, but the ball still has to be spotted. The odds of the ball being spotted before the players are at least close to being set are quite small. I watch more of the NFL than NCAA, and it seems there are plenty of times in the NFL the ball is spotted well before the team is lined up to take a legal snap. Especially when the last play didnt get many yards. Maybe college is different, less efficient with spotting.
  18. no, but the way i see it the first idiot that can get to the ball could hike it to anyone in particular, who could spike it, regardless of the status, location or number of other players on the field. you would lose some yards, but the clock would stop and you would have time to get your field goal unit out there. this couldnt happen in the NFL because of the 10 sec runoff.
  19. why not just spike it with the one second left to stop the clock? you don't really gain an advantage with the penalty. he's saying that according to the current rules, you just need those 2 players to stop the clock and lose the yardage. hell, it probably doesn't need to be the center or qb, just the 2 first players that can get there. certainly it takes more time to have the whole team line up correctly and avoid the penalty.
  20. the chiefs have. the bears have shown how you can have a really good record without being a great team. win the turnover margin most of the time, have good special teams, play pretty good defense, don't suffer any injuries. Everything you just mentioned with the exception of the injuries is what makes a team great. And how have the Chiefs accomplished more? They're one game worse than the Bears while at the same time playing in an inferior division. the best team they beat was SD in week 1 in the rain. they capitalized on a ridiculously easy schedule.
  21. Not nearly enough. It was terrible in northern NJ, but Philly panicked unnecessarily. i wonder how much money this will cost NBC. would've had big ratings, most people at home in front of tv, lots of people not working monday.
  22. It's the only game that is meaningful regardless of other games that are played earlier in the day. I know that, but given how terrible St. Louis and Seattle are, I figured NBC would find Chicago-Green Bay more enticing. I'm almost positive STL-Seattle tanks in the ratings. Am I mistaken, or did the last game mean nothing for seattle? seems that win or lose, week 17 winner still gets the division. wonder if they rested the regulars.
  23. God help us if it comes down to a last second play, we know how well Bruce sets those up. My guess is Illini by 10 if they keep turnovers under 12. If they are over 18, we will lose by a dozen or more.
  24. just end him first time he's in shotgun, all the OLs will nod to each other silently and he will receive the code red treatment.
  25. i think this is the cougars first year in division 1.
