  1. Soriano speaks out. From Gammons' blog. Link
  2. Link. Based on recent comments, it appears that Clemens is ready to retire after the WBC. And while that sounds like retirement talk to me, he adds this:
  3. ESPN's Gene Wojciechowski writes a very interesting diatribe against Bonds here.
  4. Kurkijan just said on SC that if a vote were held today, he doubts Bonds makes the HOF.
  5. The Padres broadcast schedule shows the game being broadcast on San Diego radio XPRS 1090. That means there likely will be a web broadcast on mlbaudio.
  6. I was unaware he took a paycut, that does kind of put a hole in this possibility. But it wasn't just the Cubs scouting him, it was a few teams, so there has to be some truth to it. By saying he took less money, I didn't mean that he took a paycut, just that he signed a longer deal for less money than he could have gotten if he hadn't signed it. His agent did not want him to sign, but Arroyo said he signed it because he wanted to remain a Red Sox.
  7. With the loss, we drop to 4-2 on the spring.
  8. I wonder if Walker is improving his standing on this team with a good spring.
  9. Ah... Here's the story. The article goes on to indicate Hidalgo wasn't happy with being a bench player and wants to be a starter in Japan. If this is the case, I guess he wouldn't have made a good bench option.
  10. Wow...that's interesting. You're right. He either never showed up or was in horrible conditioning when he did.
  11. In Grapefruit League action, the Cardinals lost to the Dodgers 3-1, to drop their record to 2-4 on the spring.
  12. I'm guessing Maddux is still pitching. Texas was held scoreless in the top of the second.
  13. Anyone have a clue as to what's happening here? I know the DR-Venezuela game is getting all the attention.
  14. I'm not an expert on the minors, but it seems from what I've read here, we don't really have the prospect package to compete with a lot of teams. Is that accurate? It really depends on how the prospects are valued. We all know the value of Pie. While he may not be in the upper echelon, he's still a prospect that has major league tools and many scouts project to be an all-star caliber CF. After, Pie the other prospects have serious questions. How good is Dopirak? If Marshall and Guzman are healthy, they both have filthy stuff. Their value would depend on if other teams look past their health issues. Hill also is intriguing to teams. His numbers last year were good in the minors, but he's getting old for prospect status. If Guzman and Marshall and Ryu are all healthy, our system could see a resurgence. This is even more true if Dopirak returns to numbers more like his 2004 season.
  15. Adding Cabrera in left would give the Cubs this line-up: CF Pierre 2b Walker/Hairston 1b Lee 3b Ramirez LF Cabrera RF Jones C Barrett SS Cedeno/Perez That line-up would be a top five line-up, no doubt. Pierre and Walker/Hairston would be good table setters. The middle of Lee/Ramirez/Cabrera would be as good a any in the game. Barrett brings some pop to the lower half of the line-up. I would drool over that line-up.
  16. I've got the TiVo set so I can watch this one tonight.
  17. You dare question the great Buck Martinez?!?! The Big Chair will be gunning for you.
  18. I wish Sing and Dopirak would get the starts over Mabry, but I know Mabry has a guaranteed contract and has to get his ABs in somehow.
  19. If the Cubs trade for Miggy, I'm gonna need a new pair of pants.
  20. Felix Pie, Brian Dopirak, Matt Murton, Angel Guzman, and Sean Marshall for Miggy and Scott Olsen.
  21. From a Peter Gammons blog, Link.
  22. Someone complains of lack of originality and uses the trite rolling eyes emoticon. Pot, meet Kettle. We just expect more from you. Fat and gay is so last season. Don't have high expectations. I reserve the right to make fun of Ponson's obesity and Edmonds metrosexuality at whim. That's fine, but it means I can compare being a pitcher for the Cubs to being the drummer for Spinal Tap. ;) If you make those comparisons on a Cardinals forum, I doubt any of us complain.
  23. Unrelated to the Puckett discussion, but Cowherd is an idiot.
