  1. Or...... it doesn't mean anything, other than the fact that he's trying to add to his arsenal. Or it could be his excuse why he got lit up by a split squad of Marlins who already don't have much fire power.
  2. Beat ya by two minutes. I think both of us are eager for this book. Maybe we should have an NSBB book club. :D
  3. Link Here's an account of something in the book: Link I really can't wait to read this one and may move it ahead of the others on my list.
  4. Neyer makes a rather rational plea about Bonds in his recent article. Link.
  5. Why do you act like he's happy to be just sitting on his ass, not pitching, competing, and picking up a paycheck? Honestly CubbieRich, you have it out for him on a personal level. Did he still a girl from you in a previous life or something? I know he's being paid, and not performing to that paycheck, but it seems your dislike and hatred for him go above and beyond just a player who is oft-hurt. Badger, my friend..looks like you're coming over to my side. I expect the highest paid pitcher of the Cubs to lead the team by his performance, very hard to do from the perpetual DL. After years of denying he has bad mechanics, he now admits that he has changed them this winter. Steve Stone is right again. Thank goodness this $12 million DL veteran will be somewhere else next year. Are you moved yet? Have you found Mickey's Diner in St. Paul near the State Capitol? Hope everything is going well. Here how's he suffering through his rehabs every year. How much offense could that house buy?j http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y238/CubsGallery/krissyhouse.jpg What in the world does that have to do with anything? So because he has a big house, he doesn't care that's he's been hurt and less effective the last two years? How absolutely ridiculous. Those were my thoughts as well.
  6. Combine the facts that the Sun Times says Hendry isn't currently fielding offers, Walker saying that he has a limited "no-trade" clause, and Dusty indicating Walker is the front-runner, I think Walker will be the Cubs Opening Day Secondbaseman.
  7. I tried to read Canseco's book, but it was so poorly written I just couldn't finish it. (It was like reading some of the essays of my developmental English students.)
  8. 9:00 AM if I remember correctly. Some will be out around 8 doing early drills. I watched Vince Coleman teach Pie and some others bunting one morning in 2004.
  9. You're jumping to the conclusion the Cubs are still telling you the truth. And you're jumping to the conclusion they aren't. So far there's been no evidence that they haven't been truthful in this situation.
  10. In today's Daily Herald, Bruce Miles reports that Pagan is impressing people and could have a place on the team. Link
  11. One thing is for certain. The Brewers chance of contending goes way down if Sheets misses significant time. While Davis and Capuano might be solid pitchers, neither is a staff ace.
  12. According to the Trib, not only is Todd not on the trading block, but he's the front runner to start at second. Link.
  13. I think the gates opened at 11:00 or 11:30 for a 1:00 game. I'd go spend the morning at Fitch.
  14. This screws me in two fantasy leagues.
  15. Cubs again fail to score in the top of the second. 1-0 Rockies mid 2.
  16. Colorado scored a run off of 2 hits in the bottom of the first and lead 1-0.
  17. The Cubs didn't score in the top of the first. Rockies batting now.
  18. Ponson still the heavy favorite here. Both pitched against a split squad of Fish. Ponson: 4IP 1ER 3H 1BB 1K 1HBP 1HR Reyes: 3 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 HR
  19. First the Cubs dis Walker and now no one wants him. He must be the most under-appreciated player in the majors. Hopefully we're stuck with him and he platoons with Hairston. The Sun Times article and the headline on Insider is very misleading. It appears to imply there's no interest. What it actually says is that Hendry hasn't fielded any calls on Walker. Could that also mean Hendry isn't actively shopping him? It's all in how you interpret it.
  20. Other than Anthony Reyes, I don't see how the Cards have the players that would interest the Marlins. Colby Rasmus might interest the Fish, but I think the Cubs have much more depth than the Cards. Like the Cubs, the Cards lack young, cheap major league talent to trade, so a trade is going to made up primarily of farmhands. I think the Cubs farm hands compare favorably if not better than the Cardinals. Add to that, the Cubs could toss in Murton if they acquired Miggy, and I would definitely say the Cubs have greater odds of getting him than the Cardinals do. Now are there teams that could outbid the Cubs? Certainly. I just don't think the Cardinals are one of those teams.
  21. In Grapefruit League action, Flordia leads the Cardinals 3-0 in the 6th. Reyes has surrendered a HR to Hanley Ramirez and Ponson gave up a HR to Jason Stokes.
  22. Link. This article also says Walker has a limited no-trade clause. Finally, Walker loves it in Chicago.
  23. There's nothing there in the Insider which isn't in the Sun Times blurb.
  24. Bruce Miles's article today on African Americans in baseball is excellent! Link. Since I teach in an all African-American school, I can attest to the fact that black students aren't interested in baseball. One of my students plays on an organized team. Most cannot name very many major leaguers, but they could write pages on basketball or football. As a fan of baseball, I would love to see it have a resugence in the African American community.
