  1. Rick Morrisey writes a good article on Walker and the situation. Link Morrisey spends some more lines pimping Walker for the secondbase job. And I like this quote from Walker.
  2. Wuertz has looked bad. It's making the Howry signing look even better. Last year, had Wuertz performed like that, I would have been worried. Now, with Dempster closing and Howry, Eyre, Williamson, and Ohman ahead of Wuertz in the pen, his role is not nearly as important. Wuertz's success is based more on location than the dominance of his "stuff." Pitchers like that tend to do more poorly early in ST, as they're working to reestablish their control and feel for the zone. I'll be worried if he isn't showing signs of improvement towards the end of ST. I'm hoping he'll be looking closer to normal in about another week or so. I'm hoping he will too, but I was just pointing out his role in this bullpen isn't as critical. In close games late, the Cubs are likely to turn to Eyre and Howry ahead of Dempster. The games I see Wuertz pitching in will be blow-outs (either way), 5th-6th inning when the starter leaves early, or in games when Howry, Eyre, Ohman have pitched too many consecutive games. I don't think we'll see Wuertz in the 7th or 8th of too many close games.

  4. This game looks to be broadcast with the Rangers broadcasters, so it should be available on MLB audio.
  5. Well, we didn't quite get it done...though I ended up with some local press. Link I found this amusing: That's an email address I created for the vote. :)
  6. Boston has a lot going in its favor, though. First, according to the article, Boston pitching coach Al Nipper is one of Clemens's best friends. It also seems that Barrett isn't the only one lobbying Clemens to join his team.
  7. Until Clemens signs with someone or officially hangs it up, or dies there's going to be speculation about his plans. His agent met with Epstein yesterday. There's some that believe that Clemens is intrigued by the storyline of returning to the team he began his career with. The most telling information from the article was this:

  9. OML....That was NBA three-pointer!
  10. I never thought of it that way. I'd bet that MLB teams wouldn't like their guys playing during the AS break, but crazier things have happened. Kinda sucks that an idea as good as the WBC has so many issues with timing. If structured that way, players would have more of a ST to get into shape before games. The All-Star break scenario would only involve 8 teams instead of 16. Players would be in great shape and so there's not the risk of watching as much sloppy baseball. The November games would only invlove four countries, so there would be fewer players there as well.
  11. I think this structure would be good in WBC years. Play the first round during the middle of March. Play the second round during an extended All-Star Break. Play the semi-finals and finals in November.
  12. I think you would have to eliminate Guzman as he is not ready to handle any kind of load, needs to make some starts in the minors. Marshall would be interesting but he needs a bit more time as well. I think it comes down to Hill and Ryu (hopefully) and I would be fine with either. In the case of Guzman, why would pitching one start in the majors be any more of a strain than pitching in the minors?
  13. My feeling is that Hendry will put out feelers to see who might be available, but he won't overpay or get desperate to acquire one.
  14. I still have hope the creature will be a major league hitter. Is he going to be an everyday guy or 4th OFer? I see him splitting time in the OF and DH.
  15. But what about the bottom line and the budget?Cut the profits by 15 mil to win?Yeah right. What next, lower ticket prices,? I thought the payroll was right now at about 90 million, but it was projected to be 100-105 mill. May as well give all the difference to Clemens. Unless we could clone Ted Williams for 15 million, I'm all for the idea.

  17. And all by May 1 I could see Prior and Wood back by then. I think getting Miller by May 15 might be the most we can expect there.
  18. looked decent for sure. Is he going to AAA this year? Thats where he was ticketed for before Prior went down but his name has been mentioned as competing for a rotation spot lately. Regardless of who will get the start on April 15, it would be wise to send them to Iowa to get one or two starts in before then rather than waiting on the major league bench.
  19. I'm glad we're going to start Hairston for his great defense.
