  1. He will be dimissed soon. And yes, rotoworld is right. The joke possibilities are endless here.
  2. I believe we can make the playoffs without one, but not without both. This also depends on what kind of season Maddux has. To this point, he's been masterful. I still think Zambrano will return to form, and I believe that Williams can be an effective 4-5 starter. With either Wood or Prior (or a combination of both to make the equivalent of one healthy, productive starter), we could have a rotation of Zambrano, Maddux, Wood/Prior, Williams, and Marshall. I think that rotation could (though it might be a struggle) get us to the playoffs. I think if all three of Wood, Prior, and Miller come back and pitch to their 3-yr averages, we will be very good.
  3. If Maddux proves that this start is not a fluke, I'd offer him a one year deal in the 6-8 million range. If he accepts, great if not oh well. Knowing how Maddux and Boras work, he won't accept it. You cannot, under any circumstances, offer him arbitration. With the way the process works, he is bound to make 12-13 million in that process. Considering Maddux's performance from 2003-2005, you cannot tie that much money in him. While it would be nice to get compensation if he leaves or to be able to continue negotiating until early January, my guess is Maddux would accept the offer of arbitration. He's comfortable in Chicago and knows he could make a good 10-15 million on a one year deal. At 41, he's not likely to get any more than that on the open market. In fact, I'm sure Boras would be salivating over the possibility that the Cubs offer arbitration.
  4. The problem with re-signing Maddux is that we'll be working with a short deadline. I can't see the Cubs risking offering arbitration, which means he'll have to be signed prior to the Winter Meetings or we could not sign him until after May 1. His agent is Boras, so if there's any market at all, Boras will play the waiting game.
  5. Wow...thanks for dropping by Len. Scully must have been confused on the Cedeno play as well because he never definitively said anything either. He just went on as usual. I'm glad the next game is on WGN so I can listen to you and Bob as I watch. (Not that it isn't a treat to listen to Scully though!)
  6. I'm going to try to extend my streak with Lee tomorrow night as he has owned Lowe in the past.
  7. Winning is fun. Let's do it again.
  8. This is the Maddux that used to make teams look silly. I likey lots!
  9. Cubs Win! Cubs Win! Cubs Win! 22 Consecutive Saves for Dempster. 1:59 min game!
  10. Thanks. I've never watched a game from LA Broadcasters. Bad excuse, but it's all I got. He used to do the Game of the Week on NBC back in the days before FOX and ESPN coverage.
  11. Except for "Tad" and "Jack", I've really enjoyed listening to him. I don't know that I've ever heard him before. what are you new? Well, I don't live anywhere near LA, and I've never had MLB.TV before. Even if he does nationally televised games, I rarely get to see games on TV anyway. he's vin sculley!!!ok wait, maybe its not so much you being new as it des me being old :x Probably a dumb question, but who's vin sculley? OML...you don't know Vin Scully?
  12. How long before we call up Pie to replace Jones?
  13. Speaking of Barrett and Maddux, Barrett was on Rome Is Burning today and was asked about catching Maddux. Barrett said Maddux calls the game and that he has learned so much from Maddux over the last two years. Barrett admitted to making some bone-headed plays and said Maddux was helping him and had helped him more than anyone else become a better catcher.
  14. Great line by Scully... "He might as well bring chalk and a chalkboard out there with the way he's pitching." Maddux is taking them to school.
  15. It's gotta suck being 40-something and not having the roids anymore.
  16. The record for consecutive saves by a Cub is 22. Dempster has saved 21 in a row coming into tonight.
  17. Dead pitcher Dead pitcher Dead pitcher Dead pitcher Aww come on...I wanna see one!
  18. shhh don't let Rocket know about that record. ha, i really don't know anything about that record. i'm assuming most consecutive saves by a cub? Yep. One more save and he ties Borowski's record at 22.
  19. I'd let Maddux pitch the 8th and then have Dempster tie the saves record in the ninth.
  20. First time in 5 years. Don't get greedy. You might get swept this time. I doubt we get swept....I like the look of this team. They'll be focused in St. Louis. I bet they're salivating at the idea of facing Izzy again.
  21. Isn't he a litle banged up right now though? He's playing tonight. BTW, good news. The Dodgers reliever with the 12.27 ERA is getting ready in the bullpen.
