  1. Neifi has taken two pitches.
  2. There's an .071 avg that begs to differ. I'd say it is an enormous void. I'm starting to worry that Jones, if he's lucky, will hit like he did the last two years, in which case we're looking at a 250 avg with a 300 or worse OBP. That's a huge void. I'm hoping that the issue will be addressed sooner rather than later. And you think Shawn Green is the answer? Or, do you just think Shawn Green is the direction we'll look? I think Green is a better answer than what we currently have. At this point, it's hard to tell what direction we'll take. Jose Guillen of Washington could be available as well.
  3. Game over in Houston as Miller grounds out.
  4. Carlos Lee just homered with Jenkins on base. It's a one-run game with no outs in the 9th.
  5. Make em offer that can't refuse, Mark.
  6. Combine the shout with the discussion with Andy MacPhail, Dave Keller and Julio Garcia last night, and the site has had a great 24 hours! I think the MacPhail interview should be on the front page. I don't have the access to put stuff on the front page, but I'm sure Tim will/is considering it. I think those things would be really attractive to have on the front page. Hopefully, Tim thinks so as well.

  8. At least we got a shout-out! Thanks, Len!
  9. Pie now up by 40 votes. Always willing to do my part.
  10. Cubs vs Lowe Dodgers vs Zambrano Looks to be a bit of a pitcher's duel, but Z definitely has the better numbers. Sweet Sassy Molassy, Derrek Lee is hitting .500 off of Lowe.

  12. Glavine's career seems to be as good if not better than Schilling. Smoltz could enter the discussion here as well.
  13. Jake, this is not intended to be a knock against Maholm, but didn't you think the Cards should have scored more runs against him with the way he was pitching (running deep into counts, getting behind batters, the walks). I think we had 16 LOBs. If Pujols goes down, Cards are in big trouble. HYPOTHETICAL SITUATION what if steve bartman showed up at a cardinals game and beat the crap out of pujols and albert had to miss the rest of the season? how far would this go towards redeeming him in the eyes of the public? I'd give Bartman a seat in the Cubs WS parade.
  14. I think I agree with the sentiment of most in this thread. Over a short period, none has been as dominant as Pedro. On the other hand, Clemens and Maddux were good to very good for a much longer period than Pedro. Pedro still has some years to continue to be good, but right now I'd rank them: 1. Clemens 2. Maddux 3. Pedro 4. Unit If Maddux can finish this year with a sub 3.00 ERA, I may have to adjust that list. :)
  15. So funny....... and so original. He hits REALLY well for a 46-year old, doesn't he? Got anything new? Do you come here just to argue? Someone else brings up Pujols being 46, and I'M the one that wants to argue? What's the point in saying something like that? If it were original, I might see the humor in it. At this point, it's just stupid. Maybe it isn't humorous to you, but it is to Cub fans. Perhaps, you could find a Cardinal board to your liking and you wouldn't have to deal with our trite played-out humor any longer.
  16. I think you're missing his point. Maddux is trying to say that not all walks are a sign of lack of control. Sometimes they are, but sometimes you may deliberately pitch around someone to set up another AB. There was an article in the Sporting News on Maddux right around the time that he was going for win number 300 where this was dealt with. I wish I still had it, but it was a print article and I'm pretty sure I've thrown it away.
  17. So, now that Jones is hitting .071, how long before we pull the plug and either make a deal or call-up Pie?
  18. Unless Wood, Prior and Miller all suffer extreme setbacks, I can't see us making a deal for pitching. We already have a number of starting candidates. First there's Zambrano, Maddux, Wood, Prior, and Miller. That's five starters there. Then there's Williams and Rusch. If more are needed, we have Marshall, Hill, Guzman, and Ryu. The depth is outstanding, provided at least one of Wood, Prior or Miller is healthy and effective. If we're going to make a deal, we need to find something to fill the enormous offensive void in rightfield. Shawn Green, Bobby Abreu, Milton Bradley and others would be where we will focus our attention.
  19. With Wood, it depends on how good he looks. We have the option on him, so there's less risk..even though that option is very pricey it does carry with it cost certainty. My guess is if Wood returns and pitches as he did in 2003 with no other health concerns, his option will be picked up. If there's any problems with him at all, the option will not be.
