  1. ...besides.... they didn't find me a load yet in Atlanta [/sigh] Well, if you come back through, we still haven't eaten at Big Momma's yet.
  2. Hey haven't I seen you somewhere today? Hmmmm...... are you in Meehan Jct, MS ??? You could only make it as far as Mississippi? I'm disappointed. Well, damn !! I had to take my afternoon nap, eh? After all that gumbo & red beans and rice !!! Fair enough. I took a nap too.

  4. There was a time when I would have cried over Cubs games leaving WGN. But the reduction in the number of games there has already caused me to get extra innings. I still like WGN games because I can watch them easily at my mom's or other places where there isn't an extra innings package. On the other hand, if a more lucrative deal somewhere else would help the Cubs put a better product on the field, I'm all for it.
  5. I'll be reading about the draft after the fact as my wife and new son will be released from the hospital around 3.
  6. I had heard a rumor that Dempster had a family issue, but never heard what it was. I guess this explains it. I know that sort of thing would be hard on any parent, and especially one that has to travel and be away from family as much as a baseball player is. Hopefully, she is healing and will get better soon.
  7. At least LSU is three outs away from the CWS, so I'm clinging to small victories today.
  8. They still play?
  9. We play in Houston again? Jesus, that's our third series there and we haven't had Milwaukee at home yet. And last series in Houston. For some reason, we got all the trips to Houston out of the way early this year.
  10. And what's even better, I'm fairly certain that some of the people cracking fat jokes on Hendry probably are more out of shape than he is.

  12. Just checked. You can get Future Game tickets now. http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/stl/ticketing/all_star_tickets.jsp
  13. If I come, I may or may not actually get tickets. I'd go to the Futures Game on Sunday. Those tix are easy to come by. And I'd enjoy Fanfest. I went when it was in Houston, and I did have tix to all the games. They were a lot of fun, but I really enjoyed Fanfest. Vance how does one get the Futures game tickets? There'll be some released closer to the date. Just keeping checking the site. You can look around Ebay now and see if anybody is unloading them. When I bought my tickets for the Houston All-Star Game (I purchased a 27-game mini plan to be able to do it...and then sold almost every game at below cost, but still felt I did ok considering what it would have cost me for ASG tix), I had to buy the whole strip, so to get my ASG and HR derby ticket, I had to buy the Futures game. My guess is a bunch of Cardinal season ticket holders who did the same are trying to get rid of those. So, you can check Ebay or wait until some of those go on sale.
  14. That was a great read. Whoever did that to LaRussa deserves a medal....or at least a round of drinks on the house.
  15. no, you are implying that this is what i am saying cheating is cheating...saying a form of cheating carries a little bit more weight currently doesn't mean i condone past offenses So you want the other cheaters to get their own wing of the HOF? no...they don't need to...by the by they weren't cheating because it wasn't being enforced as such back then And they also weren't enforcing anything when/if Sammy juiced either. He never failed a test once they did start enforcing...so if you say that using greenies wasn't cheating in the 60-70's, then steroids weren't cheating until 2004.
  16. right vance, i forgot that if someone doesn't think the way you do, they are wrong No, my point is that it's quiet intellectually dishonest to say that one form of cheating should deny someone of the highest honor and that another form of cheating should be overlooked without some empirical reason for doing so. In a previous post, you admitted to taking greenies. That makes me wonder if you don't vilify those because you have committed the same act, while you condemn ones who have taken another form of cheating. Both steroids and amphetamines can increase performance. Both also can cause health problems. It's not that you're wrong, it's that you are inconsistent. You're trying to argue degrees because it's the only way to support your position. The problem is that there is no evidence other than speculation to support your claim. So, you're welcome to your opinion. If you like having uninformed, ridiculous opinions, be my guest. I'll continue to call them out for being uninformed and ridiculous, but you are welcome to have them.
  17. I don't see how someone can't think that greenies aren't an aid. The baseball season is a long toil. Amphetamines would allow someone an edge when they are tired and worn out at the end of a long season, or just the end of a long road trip. While they may not add strength like steroids or hgh will, they would help with concentration which in many ways may be of more an aid to a hitter than brute strength alone. But since you think steroids are more of an aid, what studies do you point to for that? Is it based in empirical fact or just your gut opinion? Because frankly, I might buy an argument based on fact, but if it's just your gut feeling, I don't think making HOF decisions based on your gut is a very credible argument. Now if you took a stronger stance on all cheating...ie...felt that any HOF who used greenies should be excluded as well as tossing out pitchers like Gaylord Perry, then you would be credible. Right now, I've seen a lot of grasping of straws and nothing more.
  18. Uh...Ernie Banks never made it to a World Series. Also when his team needed him most in Sept of '69, he hit 208 /245/333. I guess by that criteria, Banks shouldn't be in the hall either since he was worthless in crunch time and his team never made it to the World Series. I guess we need to remove Sandberg, Billy Williams, and Fergie Jenkins from the HOF too. And all the groundswell for Santo needs to stop as well. They couldn't get their teams to World Series either. When I get the time, I look for other HOFers who never made the World Series so we can purge the Hall of those worhtless guys too. Maybe we can replace them with the Mark Lemkes and David Ecksteins of the world.
