  1. why is having alot of power so important? look at oakland, san diego & the twins. none of them have much power at all but they win with good pitching and a balanced line up. when lee, aram & barrett are all back healthy, this team should have enough power to win if they can get good pitching and a solid closer. trading murton would come back to haunt the cubs big time imo. Well, if you read closely, trading Murton is something I'd prefer not to do. That's why I'd like to add power through signing Soriano for secondbase. That way I keep Murton in left and add power at second. My second option would be to pursue a player like Jones for CF. Failing there, I think the Cubs would have to look at LF as a place to have a better bat in the line-up. I think both OBP and SLG are important. As it stands, the Cubs don't have enough of either.
  2. So does Ramirez. Should we not pay him the big bucks because of it? Yes, and here is why. A-Ram plays 3B, a position that is at a failry high premium compared to outfielders. Also, I don't think A-Ram's numbers fluctuate as extremely as Adam Dunn's. Aramis' month of April was brutal, but that has been about it. I don''t think you can really compare the two in regards to your question. I'm not arguing that he is worthless or unproductive, he is certainly productive. But at the same time, he has some pretty big flaws and his lack of consistency holds him back from being a truly elite player, imo. So, you criticize Dunn for not showing up when you think his team needed him most, yet don't find the same fault that Ramirez didn't start playing until his team didn't need him. Ramirez in April: 197/321/394 Dunn in Sept: 145/330/250 Both are pretty bad. Ramirez in May:266/296/495 Dunn in August: 188/284/416 Both had two horrible months. Ramirez began his season with two bad months, while Dunn ended his with two bad months. Season stats: Ramirez: 290/350/558 Dunn: 233/366/493 Ramirez has had a better year, but not substantially. Ramirez may play third, but he plays it nearly as bad as Dunn plays left. Furthermore, a bad play by the 3b likely affects the team more than a bad play in left. Your argument that advocates signing Ramirez while piddling away his first two months while using Dunn's last two months as proof not to acquire him lacks as much consistinecy as Dunn or Ramirez combined.
  3. How far back are the Reds? Do they still have a shot?
  4. I really hope Stone does end up being a GM one day (just not the Cubs' GM.) If he made all the moves he says would be great moves, his team would be a disaster. I liked Stone's broadcasting for awhile, but I did grow tired of it. Stone's inflated view of himself often gets in the way of his analysis. I like the Kasper-Brenly combination. Kasper is a breath of fresh air compared to a lot of broadcasters. I'd like to see ESPN try to fit Stone and Morgan in the booth together. I'm not sure those two egos would even fit in the same venue, much less the same booth.
  5. Many well wishes to Derrek, Jada, and the rest of the Lee family. Hopefully something good can come of this. Maybe Lee's involvement will raise the profile of this condition and speed a cure.
  6. So does Ramirez. Should we not pay him the big bucks because of it?
  7. Hey Jim! There's an unemployed manager who won his division four out of five years! Please take a look at him!
  8. I wouldn't be upset if the Cubs signed Loretta. He's not my first choice and falls into a second tier of guys that I wouldn't mind seeing at second. The Cubs need to add OBP and SLG next year. I'd like to see Soriano signed for second as he is the best power bat available and having him would open up other options in CF. If the Cubs signe a player like Loretta for second, then it is imperative the Cubs either upgrade power in CF or move Murton to get more power in left. I'd like to keep Murton around, so I'd prefer the Cubs get some power at second in addition to OBP, unless a trade for Andruw Jones can be made.
  9. Le Mar is no longer the Rays GM.
  10. Speaking of, has anyone heard anything new on Barrett? Did he find his bulletproof cup? Has his revcovery gone ok?
  11. We got our choking out of the way in 2004. We've just been bad since.
  12. Len, You're trapped on a deserted island and you can only have three people or things with you? Who/what do you have?
  13. Wow, a guy with a 6.02 ERA has 14 wins on the year. Unbelievable. Jon Garland has 17 wins with a ERA close to 5. 17 wins! Let's give him the Cy Young!
  14. Over/under on how many times he predicts the hitter K's on a slider low and away?
  15. Wow, a guy with a 6.02 ERA has 14 wins on the year. Unbelievable. He's nearly won fifteen games. How can anyone say he's had a bad year?
  16. Baker in the booth!!?!?! That would be freaking hilarious! In the midst of a game, you might get the inchoherent fishing and bait reference, a strange band analogy referring to injuries, have some secondbaseman referred to as his girlfriend, and a remark about base clogging all in the course of a few hours. Please let this happen!
  17. I like our current broadcasters much better.
  18. [expletive] on the board.
  19. Well, that was interesting...
  20. Cards down 2-0 to the Brewers.
  21. SC is playing better than I thought they would.
  22. Nah. Jabroni was :banned: a long time ago.
