  1. I like real trees and real boobs. Though if you can make fake ones that look and feel real, I won't complain.
  2. 81. We're a 500 ball team unless Prior regains his 2003-2004 form.
  3. Shouldn't Marquis and Lilly have to compete as well? Hill outpitched Marquis last season.
  4. Totally agree. People on this board hate everything. They hate the sun. They hate air. Not true. I love alcohol. I love sex. I love pizza. I love a really good seafood gumbo.
  5. While I usually want the Saints to do well, it's going to be all Cowboys on Sunday! I've got my tickets. I arrived in the Dallas-area tonight. Will spend all day tomorrow getting ready for the game! Go Cowboys!
  6. We have a glut of SP's now with the signing of Marquis. Would the Braves do a deal where the Cubs get Andruw Jones and the Braves get Prior and Jones along with a bullpen arm (Ohman, Eyre, or Novoa) and a prospect (Marshall, Marmol, Mateo)? Our offense would be all RH, but with Floyd and Ward on the bench, I think we could survive. It would also be a very good RH offense.
  7. It sounds nice. But as a team you have 25 roster spots. If they have options, it's a nice luxury, but none of the bunch can be sent to the minors, save Hill. Hill may be the best of the 2-5 guys. Sending him down so that Miller or Lilly or especially Marquis can take the hill is a bad idea. However, with the money paid to some of those guys, I can see Hendry reluctant to DFA them.
  8. I think we should offer Prior and Jones for Dunn and see if the Reds bite.
  9. So who on the bullpen do we DFA? Dempster? Ohman? Wood? Wuertz? Eyre? Novoa? Howry? Cotts? None of those guys have any options remaining. I don't know if I'm the only one, and this is just me talking, but I'm not much of a fan of Novoa. In fact, I wish he weren't wearing a Cub uniform, truth be told. I'm also not much of a fan of Ohman. Wouldn't mind getting rid of one of them to make room for Miller You'd probably have to get rid of two of them. Unless we're going to have a 3-man bench.
  10. I just don't see how you can be happy to have a pitcher who sucks on the team.
  11. Trading Prior might be the dumbest move of the bunch, even worse than signing Marquis and Lilly in the first place. If Prior is healthy, and yes big if, he is likely the second best starter on the team and has the potential to be the best.

  13. The pressure could be on Hill for a roster spot. Zambrano, Lilly, Marquis, Miller, and Prior cannot be optioned. Hill will have to perform well enough that one of those gets DFA'ed if all are healthy.
  14. 3/28 for Marquis - the rest is mostly teeth gnashing. Not 3/20 as reported this morning? According to ChicagoSports.com, it's now 3/28. Which I think we all agree is a bad thing. And if Miller and Prior are healthy (yeah, I know big "if"), then Hill gets bumped from the rotation for Marquis.

  16. We have Zambrano. We signed Lilly, Miller, and Marquis to major league contracts. What if Miller and Prior are healthy when this team breaks camp. Our second best pitcher behind Zambrano may not have a spot in the rotation. What would we do with Zambrano, Lilly, Marquis, Miller, and Prior to make room for Hill? Putting one in the bullpen isn't an answer since we have Dempster, Howry, Cotts, Ohman, Eyre, Wuertz, and Wood there who also cannot be optioned. We may end up sending Hill down just because he has options....or does he? Just another reason why signing Marquis to a 3/21 contract is a bad, bad, horribly bad idea.
  17. I was travelling all day. Cliff notes on this thread, please.
  18. 3/20 is a whole lot better than 3/28. Not that I like it, but it is better than 3/28.
  19. Also, with Hill and Lilly pegged for the rotation as left-handers, Hendry might want to hold on the right-handed Marmol because if he doesn't win a starting job, he projects to have more value in the pen than does Marshall.
  20. 21. With Walker accepting the Padres offer of arbitration, I'm not sure how much they will get into bidding for Giles. While the Red Sox have said they will go with Pedroia, I could see them getting involved in a trying to sign Giles. The Royals may try to throw some money his way as well.
  22. This line-up: RF Soriano 2b Giles 1b Lee 3b Ramirez CF Jones LF Murton C Barrett SS DeRosa wouldn't be too bad.
  23. I would offer him a contract. He's better than DeRosa and DeRosa still brings versatility in a bench role or in an OF platoon. I'm certain that there are teams that likely will offer Giles more money than the Cubs, but I wouldn't hesitate to make a move on him.
  24. I think it's a near certainty that Bonds will break the record this year.
