  1. For those of us who are too lazy to sift through the articles on Cubs.com, what do they project the rotation to be? Zambrano, Lilly, Hill, Marquis, Prior/Miller I think they have Hill as 4 and Marquis as 3. :( Maybe. Ordering doesn't really matter than much after the first week though. But, I think they have Zambrano, Lilly, Marquis, and Hill as locks with Prior or Miller next in line. Marshall, Guzman, and Mateo are on the outside looking in.
  2. Where's the option for Caberet on this poll?

  4. I don't doubt gus_heard it, but I still doubt it happens. Either way, until P&C report, it's fairly slow as far as news goes, so I surely don't find discussing it.
  5. I'd have serious reservations about the deal if Paweleck is the PTBNL.
  6. I think there is an obvious answer why not put both in those positions now. The Cubs have serious doubts as to whether Pie is ready. Quade's comments at the Convention implied that Mike did not think Felix is ready and still has some things to learn and some adjustments to make. If Pie isn't ready, the Cubs are in conundrum. If Soriano is in RF and Murton/Floyd in LF, who is in CF. Jones might play there, but he may not handle it defenively either. If Soriano is willing (an he is) and able (that's the rub) then he solves the problem as Jones can stay at RF. Soriano in CF makes the most sense, regardless of Pie. Either way, the future appears Murton, Soriano, Pie, so putting Pie in RF doesn't make that much difference. Soriano has the arm and athleticism to handle CF, so it's learning the position more than anything else.
  7. But they say they don't want to move Soriano...so when/if Pie is ready, then they move Soriano or Pie goes to right? Hendry has said Pie has the ability to play RF and has done so some already. I think that would ultimately be the plan. I think they will try Soriano in CF in ST. Pie will play some CF and some RF. If Soriano can handle CF, that will be his position. If Soriano has to move to a corner, I think Pie determines what the Cubs do. Right now, the Cubs are looking at Soriano at CF. I think this depends on whether Soriano can handle CF defensively.
  8. The PTBNL could be based on whether Ichiro is extended or not. If the Cubs are able to get him signed to an extension, the Mariners get to choose from one group or if he's not they choose from another group.
  9. Based on the latest info, I think the OF is Floyd/Murton in LF, Soriano in CF, and Jones in RF.
  10. A friend who works for a players' agency told me this. He's usually pretty informed. Not a done deal, just something being discussed right now. Thanks, gus_dog. Let's hope this one is true. What liklihood would your friend put on it? He didn't say....I actually hadn't talked to him since last baseball season. He called me to find out if I was still a Cubs season tix holder, and then we discussed the Cubs off-season moves, and he said he had heard this deal was being discussed. Ok. Thanks for the tip. Assuming the PTBNL is a second-tier prospect I like the move. Trading Jones for Ichiro is a no-brainer. I like Gallagher as a prospect, but with Marshall and Guzman ahead of him, Veal looking to be just as good if not better, and Samardja signed, Gallagher is expendable in a deal that improves the team. As everyone else has said, the PTBNL is the key. If the PTBNL is someone like Pie, obviously no deal. I would be willing to give up one of Harvey or Dopirak.

  12. Sorry to hear that. Maybe you can meet me in Houston in August. By then I'll be either in SA or Washington Oh, ok.
  13. KC's pick. Well, he needs to pick damnit!
  14. 1b Pujols 2b Kinsler SS M. Young OF Dye SP Zambrano SP Peavy SP Smoltz I really like my pitching. I need some more speed and power on offense.
  15. Hey, lets watch the personal attacks. Whether you agree with them or not, they make a good point. Ichiro is getting up there in years; and his OPS was actually lower than jones. Either way; personal attacks are a no-no at NSBB. Yeah. He should have said it's idiotic to want Jones over Ichiro. That would be attacking the post.
  16. I still really like Carlos Gonzalez as a prospect. I think someone like Harvey is more over-rated on the Cubs than Patterson, though I still like Harvey's potential. Of course, if I had to name an over-hyped prospect on the Cubs, I'll choose Samardja at this juncture.
  17. Seattle has been talking extension with Ichiro, but I wonder if it might have stalled. With Soriano getting as much as he got, Ichiro might think he's worth 15 million a season and Seattle may be balking at paying that much. I do like the upside of Ichiro's OBP since it is an area lacking on this team. Ichiro would also improve our OF defense whether he's in CF or RF.
  18. While I doubt there really is any validity to the Ichiro rumor (and I hope there is), it would make sense from the Cubs perspective. Hendry doesn't want to block Pie and Ichiro would only be here for one year. It also allows Soriano in rightfield which seems to be what Hendry is most comfortable with. While I like Gallagher, with Marshall, Guzman, and Mateo in the high minors and Veal on the rise and the money being paid to Samardja, I could see Gallagher being expendable.
  19. That would be an interesting deal to say the least. I have to wonder if we'd be given up too much depending on the ptbnl. If we get Ichiro, does Soriano play right and Ichiro CF or is it Soriano in CF and Ichiro in right?
  20. 60 days and counting, no? It's getting closer!
  21. Here's a quote from Hendry about Prior. I did find this interesting... But Prior's response...
  22. Link His sleepers include Kotchman, Youklis, and Thorman. A couple of the flops are Sexson and Giambi. Who are your sleepers? flops?
  23. It's looking more and more like Clemens will return again this year, but he's likely not returning until after May according to comments he's made recently. Link. It's still believed that if he pitches, it will be for either the Yankees, Astros, or Red Sox with the Yankees as the front-runner. I found this quote particularly amusing.
