    This quote makes it sound like Guzman was lights out dominant yesterday. Granted, I didn't see the game, but what is so spectacular about giving up five hits in three innings (with one K)? None of the hits were hard hit balls. One of them, I thought should have been ruled an error.

    According to the Dallas Morning News, Sosa has a clause in his contract that requires the Rangers to add him to the roster by Thursday. With his early performance, this is all but assured to happen. Link.

    I must not be very well informed then. I haven't seen anyone else demand that, but that's not something that I look for. I do know that if they are on the 40 man roster they are then protected by the MLBPA, and at that time wouldn't have been required to take certain drug tests. I hope that I'm wrong on the whole thing, and that he returns to normal. While it's not a normal demand, it has been done previously. It's usually done by college players who feel they are ready or near ready. Since it starts the option clock sooner, teams are reluctant to do it with most players. It would have to be an exceptional talent as Prior was coming out of college. Since exceptional talents with the polish to move rapidly through a system don't come around often, you won't see this demand very often.

    I can understand the angst of those who have gotten this package in the past through cable and yet won't get it now. On the other hand, I'm not sure MLB's demands are unreasonable. Sure, cable wants us to believe they are. But MLB wants a channel on regular tier. While cable may not want to do that, is that really too much to ask. If DirectTV is willing to pony up the cash, in essence that sets the market for such a package. So, while the demands may be hard for cable to meet, one party has met them. In MLB's eyes, they are only asking from the other parties what one has already agreed to do.

    I thought "attack the arguement, not the person" also included general attacks to anybody. Including childishly bashing baseball players. But I guess I was wrong. Bashing baseball players with silly names may be childish, but unless they are posters here, people who do so aren't really violating forum rules.

    I'm not sure Cotts is locked up at all. In fact, I have these 21 players guaranteed spots: Barrett, Blanco, Lee, Ward, DeRosa, Theriot, Izturis, Ramirez, Murton, Floyd, Soriano, Jones, Zambrano, Lilly, Hill, Marquis, Dempster, Wood, Eyre, Ohman, and Howry. Depending on how many pitchers the Cubs take, I see the following players jockeying for the final four spots: Coats, Cedeno, Pagan, Perez, Wuertz, Novoa, Cotts, Prior, Miller, and Guzman. One of those will be the fifth starter. And one of those will be in the pen. If the Cubs go with 12 pitchers, a third pitcher will make it leaving one bench spot for Coats, Cedeno, Pagan, and Perez. My guess is Pagan is almost assured a spot due to his ability to play CF and all other OF spots as well. If we take two position players, I'd take Coats. If it were my choice, Guzman would be guaranteed either a bullpen spot or the fifth starter, but I'm not expecting that at all. A trade could open up some spots as well.

    My guess is he might. He knows that the Cubs have lots of bullpen options that are ahead of him. Unless he's just really positive about his stay in the organization, I see him opting for free agency. I wouldn't be surprised if he does just that and then signs with the Marlins.

    I agree. I like Scott's play. Unfortunately for him, he's blocked at 3b. I'm not sure if we should look to trade him or try to gain him enough versatility to use him as aLH bat on the bench.

    Moore will probably be at 3rd and his isn't too hot with the glove either. They've got Hoffpauir at first though, and he's pretty good. Moore's not that bad defensively. I thought he was racking up the errors, and was being considered for a move to the outfield ala Kelton because he couldn't handle 3rd defensively but we still wanted his bat? BA has continued to rate his glove pretty highly. His defense isn't GG-worthy, but it isn't bad. One of the main reasons he's moved around (he even tried a more demanding defensive position at SS) was to see if he could stick at a position where he isn't blocked at the big leagues. He made some nice plays at 3b in the games I saw him play against Mississippi last year. I think he has good range and a good arm, but he's a bit erratic at times.

    If Guzman continues to throw as he did today, Prior is irrelevant and expendable.
