Tejada is close to returning to action, and some say he might be back on Friday against the Yankees. If he is, he'd have four days to show he's healthy before the deadline. If he's back, he's a risky option. He was hitting 306/360/423 before going on the DL which would be a marked improvement over the production we've been getting from shortstop. But, he's coming back from a broken wrist, and sometimes those injuries can nag. Tejada also comes with a high price tag in terms of players to acquire him and in terms of dollars left on his contract- two more years at 13 million a piece. However, he's been a Hendry target in the past and makes sense now. Would the Orioles deal him? They certainly don't have to. He's not an impending FA, but it might be wise to get something for him while they can. What would it cost? The Cubs could offer a starting pitcher like Gallagher or Veal and then add to the package. Veal + Murton + Cedeno might intrigue the Orioles. If the price is right and Tejada looks healthy this weekend, he might be the target that best suits the Cubs' needs.
