  1. Not a good showing. Other than the Theriot homerun, the Cubs provided nothing to get excited about. Hopefully, we can rebound tomorrow and get back in the win column.
  2. For some reason I don't think Lilly is going to win his 8th straight decision tonight.
  3. I feel a shut-out coming.... Hopefully, we'll respond by winning the next three.
  4. Am I wrong for hoping that will hurt Hamels' foot so that he can't continue?
  5. Rollins got all of that one. Lilly is worrying me a bit.
  6. I'm hearing the offer of Loney, Ethier and Meloan never was really on the table. Although jjg could have mean LAAoA's offer. no, I was referring to the Dodgers. didn't read all the pages in this thread or otherwise know it wasn't a real offer. According to some guys at the Newberg Report, the Rangers asked for that, but the Dodgers weren't willing to pay that much.
  7. The bullpen isn't a problem for us. We have few trading chips as it is. I prefer not to waste them on Octavio Dotel. The Royals would have asked for one of our pitchers who we couldn't afford to give up.
  8. More and more evidence appearing that Dotel will be a Brave. Link.
  9. Interesting.... I wonder what roster move will occur once that becomes finalized. Bye, bye Rocky.
  10. I'm hearing the offer of Loney, Ethier and Meloan never was really on the table. Although jjg could have mean LAAoA's offer. Well, that one hit a snag over a third player. The Angels offered Kotchman and Saunders but wouldn't include the third player the Rangers wanted. I think the deal with the Braves has more upside considering they couldn't get the third player from the Angels.
  11. I'm hearing the offer of Loney, Ethier and Meloan never was really on the table.
  12. According to Piniella, Wood will join the Cubs on Wednesday or Thursday. Link.
  13. I think this is a good trade for both sides. Texas had to start rebuilding. As hard as that is for the fans, it needs to be done. Salty will go a long way in achieving that. He's a future elite level catcher. Andrus may or may not be a major league shortstop in the future, but he's a prospect with enough of an upside to at least be worth taking a flier on. Finally, the pitchers that Texas gets look to be fairly good pieces. All in all, as good a deal as Texas could have expected. The Braves get an elite hitter. While they paid a high price, it was with surplus talent. Salty's value is diminished some if he's not used at catcher. Since he was blocked by McCann, it was a smart idea to move him. Andrus was blocked by Escobar, and the Braves held on to the best of their young pitchers. This deal looks like a win-win for both teams.
  14. That took all of one post to completely derail. How is it derailing? The topic of the thread is what you'd do, and Vance answered what he'd do. Exactly. The thread asked what would "I" do. I'd go after Dunn with a full-court press. Of the players that might be available, I think he'd be a legitimate upgrade over Cliff Floyd. Now, in more detail, I'd like Posada over all the impending FA. But with the Yankees within striking distance of the wild card, he's not available. "Hip Hip Jorge" would be just what this team needs. But, if I could get Dunn for a package of Pie + Mateo + Holliman, I'd do that. Or mayvbe Murton + Wuertz or some variation of those deals without giving up a starter on the major league club, I'd do the deal without thinking twice. If we got Dunn, we could try him in right, or better, move Soriano to right and then put Dunn in left. His production whether we hit him 2nd, 4th, or 5th would be an improvement. I would not look to add a bullpen arm. The benefit in comparison to cost just doesn't wow me at all. I'd look at Dye, but unless he could be had for a low level prospect, I'd pass. I just don't think two months (+ playoffs?) of Dunn is worth losing Pie, and I love Dunn. If he didn't have that clause that makes him a FA after this season if he's traded, I would consider it more. I'm a bit of a Pie homer though. That's a fair assessment. However, I'm at the point where I'm willing to take a chance at mortgaging the future if it means a serious run at the World Series. I wouldn't want to give Pie up for a player that I'm not certain makes a lot of difference. On the other hand, Dunn likely makes up the difference and makes us a 91-92 win team which I think wins this division easily. I also think it would greatly improve our offense as a Ramirez-Dunn-Lee middle would be imposing especially when surrounded by Soriano and nice role players like Theriot, Fontenot, DeRosa and others.
