  1. I agree that the smart thing to do is to have a six-man bench and a six-man pen.
  2. I'm going to cast my vote for this guy... http://www.theheckler.com/news/articlefiles/26-SteveStone.jpg He's just a bitter, cyncial man. Good riddance.
  3. I don't see how that is possible. The only way that happens is if they go with 1 backup middle infielder, and I don't see anyway they pull that off. .... With the normal 5-man bench, if one is a catcher and you burn one on a 1B-man (Ward), that leaves you 3 guys to cover infield and outfield. Either it's one outfielder (Johnson covering all three spots, supplemented by Ward or Cedeno), and two infielders (Cedeno and Cintron). Or it's one infielder (Cedeno) and two outfielders (Murton and Johnson). Personally I don't see why going with Cedeno only wouldn't be just fine. I'd rather have a bench of Johnson, Blanco, Ward, Fontenot, and Murton than a bench of Johnson, Blanco, Ward, Fontenot, and Cedeno.
  4. I tried to read Jose's first book. In fact, I made several attempts, but the writing was horrible. His writing and voice was weaker than most of my eighth grade students. After about the fifth try, I gave up.
  5. I'd think the Astros would grab him pretty quickly. The fact that Vargas's salary was prohibitive to trading him might further be illustrative of why Hendry was not able to find a taker for Marquis.
  6. Johnson just got signed, so Patterson likely doesn't make the club Patterson was sent to minor league camp today, so I guess that's a safe assumption.
  7. Good move in signing Johnson. I hope that we don't trade Murton just for the hell of it. I actually like both Murton and Johnson on the bench.
  8. My guess is Hendry still prefers Byrd to DaVannon or Johnson. So, he's willing to deal Murton to get him. (Personally, I'd rather have both Murton and Johnson.) Because of this, he probably called Daniels back one more time to see if he were any more reasonable than the last time. It appears that Daniels is overplaying the career year of Byrd.
  9. And talk about delusional fans, from the thread on http://www.newbergreport.com, Link.
  10. This isn't good news. Link. Don't say no, Jim. Say Hell No!
  11. I think one of Cedeno or Fontenot (most likely Cedeno) will be replaced by a newly signed Reed Johnson.
  12. Great first post, let me just say.
  13. While 30/30 may be a stretch, I could see him hitting 20 HR and 30 SB. I still don't think he'll have an OBP above 320, but for fantasy purposes, he could be a decent option.
  14. I'd take him for that. 2nd day picks are a crapshoot anyways. The last 5th round pick that actually turned out well was probably Herschel Walker back in '85. Now it's all about what kind of money and playing time he expects to get. yeah, there haven't been any 6th round players to lead their teams to 4 Super Bowls recently There's always going to be late rounders that do well, or sometimes even UFA players. But I think the point remains that after the first couple of rounds, it becomes an even larger crap shoot. My guess is the majority of guys who are selected in the fifth round or later don't amount to too much. For every Tom Brady or Marques Colston there are like 100's more that were selected in those rounds that didn't make their teams out of training camp. While there is a risk that Pacman will never straighten up and will be out of the league in a year or two, the percentage of getting a valuable player with the fifth pick is even less. So, if the cost for Pacman is a fifth rounder, it's an excellent gamble in my opinion.
  15. And there's even more rumblings about Pacman Jones to the Cowboys. John Clayton is reporting the Cowboys are the only ones seriously pursuing him and the cost will be around a fifth rounder.
  16. Get the job done Jim! This would be a solid pick up....just get it done! Why are you quoting yourself?
  17. You know that as a usher, you'd have to remove anyone who punched someone simply for waving. Are you prepared to do that?
  18. Does Dempster get a spot because he can do a really nifty Harry Caray impersonation...because it can't be based on his pitching.
  19. I think they'll take Fontenot over Patterson considering they've been giving Fontenot reps at SS.
  20. I just can't believe we're putting Dempster in the rotation. I think he'd be outperformed by at least 3-4 other options. Marshall would do better; Lieber would be better; Hell...Gallagher would be better...and I wouldn't be surprised if Walrond might be better. Ok...I'm stretching on the last one, but Dempster is not a good option. He can't throw strikes consistently. While he has decent stuff, it's not good enough to compensate for his lack of control.
  21. Wood is physically incapable of starting at this point, so he is completely irrelevant in this conversation. LOL I'm dumb. forget I ever said this. I don't think Wood is incapable of starting. The same thing was said of Smoltz when he moved to the pen and he's returned to being a damn good starter.
  22. That is good news. The Orioles were overvaluing Roberts. He would have been nice to have, but to give up four players for someone who is a marginal upgrade at a position that isn't a place of need would not have been a good allocation of resources. I'm glad that Jim has decided to move on.
