  1. I think the only way we get Rodriguez for Marquis is if we eat a significant portion of the money owed Marquis.
  2. What an extremely intelligent thing to do. I'm sure he won't get in any trouble because of that picture. Nice work. Problem #1 should be with the IRS. I'm sure he didn't decalre the $10K he would carrying around, so there's a felony. On the other hand, it explains why Clemson has had some good to great recruiting classes lately. Clemson's explanation is that he was visiting a family member who owns a bunch of ATMs and Page was going with him to refill the ATMs and thought the cash was cool so a picture. Ha, ha,,,yeah right!
  3. I think it would be best to keep Marshall stretched out as a starter at Iowa and use Piggy in the pen.
  4. And it's not even close to being "the greatest thread." I can easily think of five off the top of my head that were better.
  5. I wish they would limit the blues to an alternate on the road or use them only on a particular day like Fridays or Sundays.
  6. I think I might have to skip a faculty meeting Monday so I can watch the game.
  7. Age is extremely relevant to the discussion. While there are legitimate doubts as to Cedeno's viability as a major leaguer, to dismiss the age difference as irrelevant is just wrong. There is a long litany of players who struggled in their first 700 or so plate appearances. When done at age 25-27, then it's safe to assume these just aren't major league players. When done at age 23 like Cedeno, an age when many players are still attempting to make it out of AA, then it might be ok to assume that the player has better years ahead.
  8. I'd trade them Marquis for a prospect like Mason Tobin or P.J. Phillips if the Angels take on the whole contract. If the Cubs have to pick up some cash, I'd like a little better player.
  9. First, let me begin by telling all the winners from last year that your packages finally have been mailed. If you don't receive it in the next week, please let me know so I can make sure I didn't forget anything. Secondly, if you have something you'd like to donate for the contest, please contact me and I'll tell you where to send it. If possible get donations to me ASAP so I can put the packages together a little earlier this year. Examples of things that make good donations: old pieces of Cubs memorabilia (old media guides, pins, etc.), stadium give-away items, bobble heads, autographs, etc.
  10. Hendry put himself in the position where he needed to sign Soriano for that contract by ignoring options like Vlad, Beltran, Tejeda, and others who would have been ideal fits when they were free agents.
  11. With Marquis and Dempster in the rotation, we're going to need a 12-man staff. I don't think so. Lieber is stretched out enough to pitch 3-4 innings in mop up if needed. If Marshall is on the staff, he also should be able to do more than an inning. Furthermore, we have enough arms with major league experience at Iowa that we can just shuttle them back and forth if the bullpen gets over worked. I think having the extra bat on the bench would be of greater value than the arm in the pen.
  12. The biggest problem I have with this is the choice to carry 12 pitchers. I think we'd have a better team with Murton on the bench and an 11-man pitching staff.
  13. I'm glad that we didn't trade valuable commodities for a player we really don't need. We can now wait and evaluate this team over the beginning of the season and address real needs in June or July.
  14. So when is the earliest I can start the opening day thread?
  15. The Rangers optioned Jarrod Saltamalacchia to the minors today. They didn't want to make him a part time player with Laird still on the roster. He'll likely be back whenever the Rangers deal Laird which could come in the middle of the summer if a contender finds themselves in need of a catcher.
  16. only if you want to be blasphemous.
  17. It's becoming quite apparent that leaving Stone off the choices has caused this poll to be invalid. It should be locked and a new one created.
  18. The six bullpen spot and using the Iowa to Chicago shuttle would be a good idea. We have a number of young relievers with options between Hart, Piggy, Ascaino, Petrick, etc. There's enough to shuttle up and down as needed.
  19. I'm not so sure. I think the team may value Fontenot a bit more. I also wonder if the team might consider only taking 11 pitchers in order to keep both Fontenot and Cedeno on the team.
