  1. Crap, I forgot about this. I guess we can start this up.
  2. Former Cub Scott Moore homered for the Orioles as they routed the Rangers in the Rangers' home opener.
  3. I surely hope that Dempster shows the control he demonstrated in his first start.
  4. My team name has an expletive in it.
  5. I liked Barrett. I think he played with heart. I think he genuinely liked being on the Cub and wanted to finish his career in Chicago. He made some lapses on defense for certain, but I think he made up for most of that with his bat. For whatever reason, things began to deteriorate last season not just defensively but with the bat.
  6. I think the DH could be gotten rid of if rosters were expanded by 1-2 players. While some players whose skills are eroding would lose jobs as DHes, the one or two extra players on each roster would more than make up for those lost jobs. It would also have to be a gradual phase out. Allow teams and players time to prepare for its elimination.
  7. I brought this up in yesterday's game thread. Steve Kline has been given his release. The only left in the pen right now is Pigniatiello. Piggy came into the game yesterday to face two lefties and could throw a single strike. I'm not ready to completely give up on him, but if Eyre is really out until sometime in May, we might have to find another lefty reliever. The Cubs could turn to Sean Marshall, but personally, I'd prefer to keep in AAA as a starter in case one is needed. Juan Mateo might be another alternative. But barring those, the Cubs would probably need to look outside the organization which then leads me to Kline. Kline's numbers are declining, but he might still be able to get a key left-hander out if needed. Another option might be Mike Stanton, who was released by the Reds at the end of spring training. Stanton also isn't very good, but probably could fill the role as a loogy. Both likely would sign for the minimum.

  9. That Cardinals-Astros game was crazy too. What was it with crazy games tonight.
  10. The Pirates should have known better than to trust a rule five guy to come in and get it done.
  11. I'd have Pie bunt here. He might have the speed to beat it out. I'd also like to get Theriot to third with less than two out.
  12. Come on, Lieber. Show everyone why you're a better pitcher than Marquis.
  13. Leave Lieber in, since the Cubs are out of pitchers, too. Agreed. Leiber should be stretched out and we're thin in the pen.
  14. Lead-off single for Fukudome! He's good at baseball.
  15. We need to use Lieber to keep from running out of pitchers. If we bring in Marmol and fail to take the lead, we could end up making Wood pitch a couple of innings if this runs long.
