A few comments... First, this deal would never happen. I don't think that the Cubs would look to do it, nor do I think the Mets would take on Soriano's contract at this point, even if they were unloading Beltran. Now, after saying that, is this a move I would make as the Cubs? Probably. The main reason I'd make this move is if our hole to fill was in LF rather than CF, we'd have a plethora of choices at the deadline to fill it. Milton Bradley, while questionable if he could play CF, could definitely play LF. Adam Dunn is an impending FA who could fill the gap in LF. Raul Ibanez would likely be acquired cheaply and could play LF. A Murton/Hoffpauir platoon in LF would likely be more productive than a Johnson/Edmonds platoon. So, I'd do this deal, but it's a deal that has no chance of happening in the real world.
