5 runs through 5 innings isn't "getting into some trouble?" I understand your point and I see what you're trying to say, but he's just going to get worse. He's not fooling anyone, and I'd like to not have to use Marmol or Wood today if at all possible. We've got Lieber. Looks like he'll be in for at least 1 more inning, though. What Vance is alluding to is that we have a 5 run lead. Marquis has only thrown 70 pitches (even though he hasn't been very good), but you don't want to use your bullpen up when you can get another inning, possibly even another two innings out of your starter because of the lead we have. Now if he gets into some trouble, then you take him out and you go to the pen. Thanks. That's exactly what I mean. If you can get another scoreless or one-run frame from Marquis, then you are set to use the bullpen in whatever mix and match settings you can.

I don't even know what that means. I'd love to hear a conversation about baseball between Dusty and Hawk. The metaphors, cliches, analogies, and figures of speech would reach astronomical levels.
