  1. I saw Ryan Dempster come in and take a piss at the Flying Saucer on Main Street, but I was there first. On Friday right? He almost walked into the Ladies room, my buddies and I pointed out the Chimay sign.. We must have been in the bar at the same time.
  2. I'm putting Rebel Ridling at the top of my list. :D
  3. Giants trade Shockey to the Saints. Link
  4. I saw Ryan Dempster come in and take a piss at the Flying Saucer on Main Street, but I was there first. So he met you and then followed you into the restroom? Nope. I was drinking there. I went to take a piss. While I was taking a piss, Ryan Dempster came in and took a piss. I didn't know he was there until I saw him in the restroom. I went back to the bar after that, had one more drink, and then walked back to my hotel. I don't know where he went after taking a piss, who he was with, or what. you were drinking in the restroom? creepy Why do I bother....
  5. Trading for relievers can be an iffy proposition at best. Unless you really pay for one of the biggies, you never know what you're going to get. Linebrink was supposed to stabilize Milwaukee's pen last year and didn't get it done. The same reason I typically don't like to overpay for relievers in FA is the same reason I'd be cautious of what chips we traded for one in July. Someone is going to overpay for Fuentes, in my opinion. He's good and would be a nice addition because he's a lefty that pitches well to both lefties and righties, but he's going to cost a lot. If we could get Mike Gonzalez on the cheap, I'd go that route. But my guess is the Braves would only trade him for a nice return.
  6. This would be my explanation, but from time to time players have flukishly bad seasons just as from time to time players have flukishly good seasons. Because Durham had his in his mid thirties, we all assumed he was done. Had he had a season like that a couple of years earlier, many would have seen him as a good buy low candidate.

  8. jenkins left the game with an injury i think It's a gamble pick. I'm not likely to win this thing anyway. The only way for me to make up ground is to do something different. I'm hoping Bruce goes on some kind of streaky, flukey, homerun binge. If it doesn't happen, so what? I probably wasn't going to win anyway. It's my version of trying for the hail mary.

  10. I watch on Extra Innings for most games not on WGN. Sometimes, I listen to XM if I'm not able to be around my TV. When I'm away from both of those options, I'll try to follow via game day or game day audio.
  11. Well, let's look at Durham's numbers the last few seasons. This year: 293 .385 .414 Last year: 218 .295 .343 2006: 293 .360 .538 2005: 290 .356 .429 2004: 282 .364 .484 2003: 285 .366 .441 What he's doing this year looks right in line with his last few years excepting last season. He's getting on base a little better, slugging a little less. When he performed so poorly last season, most assumed age had caught up with him. But looking at his performance in the first half this year and comparing it to his other performances, I think he'll stay pretty close to that level. It's a good deal for the Brewers and if Yost is smart (hint: He's not), then Durham would supplant Weeks in the line-up.
  12. i thought i still might have it saved, but i don't. i do have this though -- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v386/edstevensiscool/dutchvaluebandwgnJPG.jpg That one was great too!
  13. I'm in favor of PPR for next season.
  14. Will we make a roster move Friday or will we take 13 pitchers out of the break? I thought for sure we'd go back to 12 pitchers and bring up a hitter...maybe Hoffpauir or Dubois, but I still haven't seen anything about it.
  15. I'll be there. SEc 252 on Friday, Sec 133 on Sat, and Sec 153 on Sunday. I'm staying in the Hyatt. I love priceline's name your price!
  16. I'm actually making my first trip to Houston for Friday and Saturday's games. Do you have any suggestions? Edit: I realized maybe this shouldn't be in a game thread. Sorry if it was inappropriate. Where are your seats? Who are you going with? What kind of suggestions do you need? My wife and I will be leaving Hattiesburg tomorrow and we'll be in section 410 tomorrow and 319 Saturday. I don't know for sure what suggestions I have in mind. What's it like getting to Minute Maid? What's parking like? What is the area around Minute Maid like? Are there any things we must do in Houston during the day Saturday? Are there any great restaurants for a graduate student's budget? I guess that's the kind of stuff I was thinking of. Getting to MMP isn't too bad.Depending on where you are staying, you may be able to walk or cab it. Parking is plentiful, and gets cheaper the further you drive. They offer stadium tours, even on game days. Check out the Astros web site for details. As far as eating, I don't have a lot of suggestions. I usually eat at this little joint across the street. The area around MMP isn't anything special. It's not bad, but there really isn't much there. There is an Aquarium near downtown that might interest you. The Galleria is there if you like shopping and there's also an ice skating rink there if that's your thing. I miss the days of the old Astrodome and before they closed Astroworld, when I could ride roller coasters all day and then cross the street and go watch the Cubs. If you weren't coming with the wife, I'd reccomend Treasures on Richmond. Some of the Cubs go there after the game.
  17. Fox sports is reporting the Yankees are close to signing him. Link.
  18. I just got all those stats based off their 162 game averages on BR. Long time lurker posting here. Absolutely love this thread. Had to chime in here. You absolutely CANNOT use the baseball-reference 162 game average for pitchers to determine if pitchers started more games or less games during certain eras. The 162 game average for pitchers is normalized to a 34 game season (so, for example, if someone started 68 games back in 1898 that would count as two seasons for the 162 game average used on baseball-reference). Here is a link that clarifies the methodology: http://www.baseball-reference.com/about/pitch_glossary.shtml#162_avg Pitchers absolutely started more games and pitched more innings in the past: http://www.baseball-analysis.com/article.php?articleid=2627 Or, as the poster mentioned above, just browse through some pitchers from different eras and look at how many games they started and innings they pitched. Cy Young started over 40 games in a season 11 times during his career and pitched over 350 innings in a season 11 times in his career. No one has started 40 games in a season since Charlie Hough back in 1987 (since 1980 it's only been done twice). No one has pitched over 350 innings in a season since Wilbur Wood back in in 1973. Pitchers started more games and pitched more innings back in the early days of the game. This is indisputable. Welcome to the forum.

  20. Here's your team. Dwayne Bowe (KC - WR) Reggie Bush (NO - RB) Chris Chambers (SD - WR) Dallas Clark (Ind - TE) Kevin Curtis (Phi - WR) Frank Gore (SF - RB) Ahman Green (Hou - RB) Marvin Harrison (Ind - WR) Donovan McNabb (Phi - QB) Willie Parker (Pit - RB) Matt Schaub (Hou - QB) Jason Witten (Dal - TE) Rob Bironas (Ten - K) Dallas (Dal - DEF) San Diego (SD - DEF)
  21. Another trade goes down, albeit a lesser one. Link.
  22. Sexson?!? :-k Why? I agree. Sexson has no place on this team unless he replaces Ward. I don't envision that happening nor would I be in favor of it.
  23. Blake would be a decent pick-up, but I'm just not sure whose spot on the bench he'd take. With the 12-man pitching staff, room on the bench is short. He could replace Fontenot, but with the way he's hit lately, I don't see that happening.
  24. I've always disliked them, but when my local paper continued to name them the "Home Team", I discovered all kinds of hatred for the team and their fans.
