  1. I'd probably go that way too, but Sandberg barely passes Fergie in my list.
  2. Using Birdinal's argument of history, I fully expect a Cardinal pitcher to die either this year or next. It's pretty much a sure thing.
  3. The gun only showed that at 91, but it looked faster than that.
  4. Stone is a hack. Not worth listening to him. Just a bunch of hot air. Agreed. He's not the same announcer as he was in the 80's and early 90's. Now he's a pompous windbag that doesn't deserve the acclaim he gets.
  5. Another hit! Come on, Reed. Put Wandy out of the game!
  6. According to Bruce, Hendry said Eyre has already cleared waivers. Link.
  7. Harden has thrown 51 pitches. Only nine of those have been balls. Amazing!
  8. Damnit. I didn't get that with the Astros telecast! :x
  9. Astros announcers laughing over Blanco being nicknamed Hank White.
  10. Arguellez sounds like an interesting prospect.
  11. This is the kind of beat down the Cubs should put on the Astros.
  12. Someone should tell Erstad there's bricks back there.
  13. I hate that Eyre was DFA'ed. Looking through the game logs show he wasn't that bad outside a couple of outings. We could have sent Marshall down to start a few times over the next 28 days and then had the extra depth for September. I'm not happy with this move.
  14. there's no way that certain teams (yankees/red sox) would agree to that. and frankly it would be unfair to them. they didn't have a wildcard pre-1993. It's not unprecedented to have both teams not make the playoffs every year. I'm pretty sure that the D-Backs wanted to be an AL team since the time they were created, so they would seem like the natural team to move in an expansion scenario I beleive it was the other way around that Tampa always wanted to be an NL team. There was some sort of cockamamie idea for the 2 to switch leagues after a few years, but Arizona balked at the idea. That's correct. The Dbacks have never wanted to switch. I know the Rangers have lobbied to get the Dbacks into the AL West because they complain that they are a Central time zone team that plays in a division with all Western time zone teams and it hurts their ratings. The think it would be mitigated some by Arizona in their division.
  15. But I'm not sure Eyre deserves to be DFA'd. If you look at the game logs, (Link.), Eyre has been good except his last three times out. His most recent time was not good and his two times before hitting the DL were not. Other than that, he's done the job. It's hard to fault his most recent outing considering he sat on the bench without getting used for eight days. Marshall's bullpen experience has been a mixed bag. When looking at his game log (Link), Since starting on July sixth, He's had two outstanding appearances, one ok appearance, and one disaster on July 22. His results from the pen early in the season show the same thing. He's usually pretty good, but he does have his mediocre to bad times, like all relievers. Marshall's value is as a starter. Farming him out for the remainder of August to start wouldn't be a bad thing.
  16. According to Bruce, Wood will likely be activated before today's game. Link. And then that leads to the question...who goes to make room for Wood?
  17. Ultimately, if we make a run in the playoffs I don't care how we got there. But...I do care. I want to win the division. We won it last year, and I'd like to start a string of division championships as well as going deep in the playoffs.
  18. Rich Hill is back on the DL with back spasms. Link.
  19. Hey there is always Chris Henry who is available. And we know the Cowboys loves those boys who like to fight the law. And amazingly they behave themselves once surrounded by the strong influences in Dallas which has a person specifically designed to assist players in keeping themselves out of trouble. While the mid 90's Cowboys had its issues, and everyone wants to accuse the Cowboys of being a rouge team, it's funny that in recent years there haven't been any arrests of guys while they are playing for the team. The Cowboys have signed guys like Tank and traded for Pacman, but those guys have been good citizens since coming to Dallas. The structure and support system Jerry has put in place along with guys in the locker room like Brady James and Terrance Newman is so good, it allows the Cowboys to take chances on these guys because in all likelihood, they won't stray while with Dallas. I'm not sure if the Cowboys would take a chance on Henry, but if any team could straighten him out, it would be Dallas. Calvin Hill is very good at his job. My guess is that until they are certain Pacman isn't going to cause any headaches, then they won't take too many more risky players. But, they could take a chance on Henry, and I wouldn't be shocked to see him come to Dallas and behave himself.
