i'd thank jim very much for his contributions, request he wear a cubs hat to his hall of fame ceremony, and let felix pie actually have a shot at the job next year. he's been beyond amazing for the cubs this year. that doesn't change the fact that he's still pushing 40, injury prone, and has had declining numbers up until his cubs stint. I'd take him on a one year deal in the range of 1.2 to 1.5 million dollars. My guess is he'll get a better deal elsewhere. That's around the money that we paid Ward this year. If Edmonds accepts, he's making what we paid a pinch hitter this year. If he continues to play as well as he has, he's in the outfield mix. If he drops off significantly, we could easily cut that deal. Depending on how much payroll we have to play with and what we have to spend to keep Wood and maybe Dempster or if we try to upgrade the rotation, I might even be willing to go to the 2.5 million range to keep Jim around on a one year deal. In no way do I want to offer him significant dollars or a long term deal.
