  1. What's the over and under on how many camera men get assaulted by Kenny Rogers?
  2. 2001 was Sosa's best year. Period. McGwire was the better hitter in 1998 - his OBP and SLG were each 80 points higher than Sammy's that year. Sammy's completeness as a player often rested on his speed - that year he was successful on 67% of his SB attempts (18 of 27). The debate over who was the MVP is a fair one, but the debate over who was the better player should start and end with McGwire. I'm not sure that is the case. In 1998, McGwire led Sosa by four homeruns, and out slugged him by 100 points. Sosa had more RBI and a higher batting average. In 98, Sosa was a better base runner and better defender. It was close. If you're talking better career player... :-k McGwire has a career 263 BA compared to Sosa's 277. McGwire has a career 394 OBP compared to Sosa's 348. McGwire has a career 588 SLG compared to Sosa's 545. McGwire has 583 HR's compared to Sosa's 574. McGwire showed more power throughout his career, but if you use a grouping of five best seasons, Sosa looks a little better. McGwire was a decent fielder, while Sosa showed athleticism but had flaws. Sosa was a better base runner, especially earlier in his career. I don't think either one is clearly a better player than the other.
  3. I'm not sure there unfounded. Why did the next two best pitchers get saved for mop up duty?
  4. Astros pitchers love to suck in All-Star games don't they?
  5. I was. But I have other reasons for hating the putz Joe Buck.
  6. I've decided to wear white shorts (and a colored thong just for Roast) with it and try to get work as a traffic cone. Thanks everyone! I appreciate it. This was really so unexpected....but I can't begin to thank-you all. And Gracie, you only chipped it b/c you were glad I was able to overcome your helping your son vote for Pujols. (Yes, I still lurk at BOTB every now and then...lol.)
  7. Ron said that he would have to talk about it with the GM and then he'd let me know. Oh ok. To me that would be a big deal. While it would be cool to be on the radio, I don't know that it does the site much good if we can't mention it.
  8. We haven't decided, but I can't see going much over $400, especially if they won't let us mention the site. So, we don't know yet if they'll let us mention the site? Or do we know for sure that they won't let us.
  9. Do you play Teixeira in the OF? I've heard from some here that he is not very good defensively in the OF, and runs the risk of getting injured if he's not playing 1B. He's athletic enough to play the OF. He wouldn't be any worse than Alou was out there, so yes I'd play him in left. Fair enough. Tex has a great bat. Speaking of Alou, if you get a moment please read Mike Downey's column in the Chicago Tribune and Tim Sassone's article in the Daily Herald. Alou and the Cubs clearly miss each other. Do any of your sources indicate a reunion near the deadline? The only hold-up I see is that tricky option for 2006.
  10. But why is Dunn more feared than a Pujols, Berkman, Helton or Lee type of middle of the order hitter? Dunn is feared only because he can jack 460 ft. homers instead of 410ft homers. I'd rather face Dunn than the four names I mentioned above. I like guys who are hitters who happen to be sluggers rather than pure sluggers. I would prefer for Harvey to be more the former than the latter. One of the key differences is the hitters you mentioned except Lee who we already have aren't available and Dunn is. Pujols and Berkman are locked up in long term deals. Helton's deal is too long and ornerous to take on as well as we already have Lee at first. Dunn is a feared hitter who just might be available in a position in which we should be looking to upgrade.
  11. Do you play Teixeira in the OF? I've heard from some here that he is not very good defensively in the OF, and runs the risk of getting injured if he's not playing 1B. He's athletic enough to play the OF. He wouldn't be any worse than Alou was out there, so yes I'd play him in left.
  12. You have my cell. I'm interested in some of the memorabilia and if you need a little extra for a last minute push, let me know. Have we decided how high we think we should go?
  13. Do you have any idea how much you're going to be short DJAXX?
  14. I'm no fan of Baker, but I will say this. While the ultimate goal is a World Series victory, if the Cubs could put together a situation like the Atlanta Braves of multiple play-off appearances but only one World Series title, I think I could be happy.
  15. I have 281 points, good for 631.
  16. You still have my cell # handy don't you? :D
  17. It's not me [-( Definitely not you. Did you read the list of what the Jaxx are auctioning? It's going to be wild out there! No, I haven't. Send list please.
  18. It's not me [-( Definitely not you.
  19. I know one person that several might pay to keep away for a long time.
  20. I think much more depends on how Hairston handles CF. If he can defensively handle it, then he makes our options better for next season. If he can't, we'll have to decide how much we like him at second or do we need to look for a lead-off hitter outside the organization.
  21. Let's look at the numbers of the three most deserving to start. W/L Record: Clemens 7-3 Carpenter: 13-4 Willis: 13-4 ERA Clemens: 1.48 Carpenter: 2.57 Willis: 2.39 WHIP Clemens: 0.95 Carpenter: 1.07 Willis: 1.14 BAA Clemens: .188 Carpenter: .225 Willis: .252 In every category other than wins, Clemens blows away the competiton. While he has six wins fewer, he also has one fewer loss. Willis also has the same record as Carpenter and a lower ERA. Carpenter beats Willis in WHIP and BAA. I think what is clear is that while all three would be deserving, Clemens should have received the start. Carpenter's numbers are good enough that TLR can choose him without looking as if he is blatently over looking better options, but make no mistake about it. No matter how you spin it, Carpenter did not deserve to start over Clemens. He is clearly the beneficiary of the luck of having his manager be the manager of the game. Clemens is clearly the best. After that, it's a toss-up between Willis and Carpenter.
  22. No, you can sub at DH. What you can't do is put the DH in the field. If you put the DH in the field, ie move Pujols to first, then the pitcher would have to hit.
  23. I don't know. It wouldn't shock me to see Lee play all nine. Someone likely will sub in at DH. I don't see how you could justify not doing that.
