  1. I'm going to have tp agree with you. Sandberg is my all-time favorite Cub, and I absolutely loved his HOF speech, but I don't want him as manger. He can be a hitting instructor or a first base coach, maybe even the bench coach, but I would look at a number of others before I'd entrust the team to Ryno.
  2. Al Davis has been advising me on my draft picks.
  3. seconded Thirded. and Vance, your team is starting to scare me. Why?
  4. Though it has no impact on our playoff hopes, the Cardinals trail the Gnats 4-0.
  5. The Crew is up 1-0 with men on 1st and 2nd and two outs in the top of the 6th. Springer gets the Astros out of the jam. Brewers clinging to a precarious 1-0 lead.
  6. I don't think I would have DFA'ed Hollandsworth. I would have sent Wellemeyer back to Iowa and used the extra position player. It would have only been for 11 days and then the rosters would expand. I know there was likely concerns about the bullpen being over used in Colorado, but I just think it's ridiculous to have a 12 man pitching staff. I said the same thing in May when I thought we needed the extra bat and I still feel the same now.
  7. With Wood performing well in the pen, I don't see that as a major concern for this season. And while Eddie isn't making a ton of money over the next two seasons, after being burned with Remlinger I'd be cautious. A starting pitcher would help us more than anything....or maybe an outfielder who can actually hit. (We had one of those, but they sent him to AAA.)
  8. Hopefully, if we miss the playoffs because of Dusty's archaic ways and misinformed thinking, he will get shown the door. I'm a big supporter of Hendry, but if he doesn't have the balls to fire Dusty, I will be in full support of a completely new regime.
  9. When I lived in Dallas, I went to a the Stars games. I had a good time, but really don't enjoy it on TV. I don't follow it enough to care.
  10. Dusty is a liar, plain and simple. Performance does not matter to him in who gets to play. Matt Murton has outperformed every outfielder on the team, including the one whom we are activating to take his spot, in his short call-up, yet he gets sent down. Dusty talks about teaching, but Murton has played with better fundamentals than any outfielder on the team. Dusty has no credibility. He should be thanking his lucky stars that he had Barry Bonds on his teams in San Francisco or else he'd be just another re-tread manager in the same group as Kevin Kennedy, Jim Lefebvre, Jimy Williams, Hal Lanier, Davey Lopes, and their like.
  11. I know nothing about hockey whatsoever.
  12. At least we got one, but I had hoped for more. In this park, Prior better not miss up in the zone.
  13. I don't think the blue top should be worn at home. They should always wear the traditional pinstripes in my opinion. I like the road grays as they are now too...but I wouldn't be opposed to some tinkering of the road uniform. I'd like the to wear the dark blue retro uniform that they wore in 1997 once as seen in this pic: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/photo/photogallery/interleague_2003/chc_cws/01.jpg
  14. There's no rumor to Selig's remarks. They were reported on XM 175. That's a failry reputable source. It would be the same as hearing them on BBTN or Sportscenter. Selig has denied that Clemens will be suspended. Are there players that may be be in the appeals process? That I believe. On the other hand, I think many people are speculating on who those players are.
  15. I'm late to this discussion, because I've been a little busy. While driving to work, they were discussing this on XM radio. They did mention that Selig has denied that these two players are about to be suspended. He called the rumor "preposterous." While I guess anything is possible, I think there's just a lot of untruths flying around right now. Once Palmeiro became public and people learned his suspension had been on appeal since May, I think everyone began speculating that why couldn't there be more like that they we haven't been told about. I also wouldn't be surprised to learn that there may have been some positive tests that were overturned on appeal. Maybe that is why there are a number of rumors of this player or that player. That last statement is highly speculative, but it would shed some light on the situation.
  16. More than likely, they will never stop believing in luck Ahhhh, the anonymous 'they'. Who exactly are 'they'? I would assume he means the ones who currently believe in luck. Point being (just like always), nobody's opinion will be swayed on a message board (believe me, I try harder than anybody! ) That's not entirely true. My opinion has been swayed. Opinions can be changed, but only when people approach these places as open exchanges of ideas. You complain that no one ever changes their opinion. Have you ever changed one of yours as a result of a message forum? Finally, if you believe no one ever changes their opinions, why do you waste your time here or any other forum for that matter. I strongly believe that if someone makes an informed case that it can assist others. It may take a lot, and at times, it means accepting that some people come here with certain preconceived notions which take longer to change if they ever change, but ideas can be changed. However, if someone approaches it with the idea that all their ideas are right and that they shouldn't learn from others, I find it hypocritical to complain or mock others who also hold to their ideas.
  17. Keeping with the fact that I'll have the oldest team in the league, with the 30th and 31st picks of the draft, Rickty's Reefers select WR Joe Horn and RB Tiki Barber.
  18. Amazon has that price beat. I had searched Amazon a while back and there weren't any. Thanks everyone.
  19. you couldve waited to see if he wanted my copy
  20. That would be Win Shares by Bill James. And it's extremely hard to find. I wish my library had it so I could check it out and then claim to have lost it and pay them for it. I found one at Powells online, and they wanted $133 for it.
  21. I don't think the lack of moves is indicative of any GM "sitting on his hands" as it is that there were way too many teams still believing they had a shot. The prices for the players available were high and not many impact players were truly being shopped.
  22. Since we're talking value, just because the Grand Prix has gas doesn't make it more valuable If I'm on the car lot and the dealer is selling a Grand Prix with a full tank of gas or a Lambourghini with no gas, I'd still pay more for the Lamboughini and anyone who wouldn't is freaking stupid
  23. Call me crazy, but I'd take the Lamborghini any day of the week. If you happen to have a spare Lamborghini lying around that has no value to you because it has no gas, then I'll gladly take it off your hands. I think the Lamborghini is more valuable as well. Gas is expendable. Sooner or later, the Grand Prix will be out of gas as well, so in the long term and in the more prudent view the Lambrghini is still more valuable. We're not talking about "long term". We're talking about 1 summer, where you only drive the thing every 5th day. I'm still taking the Lamborghini. Even without gas, I can stand beside it and let it be a chick magnet. Sooner or later one of those girls will put gas in it. You're grasping at straws to make your point. There's a case for Carpenter, even if I believe it pales to the case for Clemens at this point, but to bring relativity into the argument doesn't work. Also the car analogy, while funny, isn't really germaine to the discussion. It's not like Clemens is a car with an empty tank...and it isn't like Carp is as worthless as a Grand Prix. A better analogy might be a Lamborghini with a half tank of gas compared to a Firebird or such with a full tank. Even then, though it's a ridiculous comparison. Clemens has pitched better. Most of the numbers bear that out. I'm not saying value to his team has no bearing. It does. But the fact that Carpenter has received more run support and therefore his team has won more games when he has started than Clemens team has when he starts, in no way makes up for the difference in other areas. Ridiculous comparisons will not change that. Sure if I had to get somewhere that day at that moment I'd choose the Grand Prix....but I'm not choosing based on that. I'd still take the Lambourghini and then call a friend and tell him he could borrow it if he'd put some gas in it.
  24. Call me crazy, but I'd take the Lamborghini any day of the week.
