  1. Throwing up and in on the bunt is the way I was taught. It's about the only defense against the bunt since it is the hardest pitch for the batter to get down. If he still tries to bunt, he's likely to pop it up which is a desireable end. I've heard many an old timer say you never bunted on Nolan Ryan because it was a well known fact that he'd drill you if you squared too early. Throwing up and in on a bunt attempt, in my opinion, is the proper move. It's the best way to defense the sac bunt.
  2. Considering Giles will likely get 3/24, Damon 4/38, Furcal 4/39, Ryan 3/21...That's adding 34 million in payroll. I just don't see all of that happening. It would be nice, just not realistic.
  3. I'm not saying that Pie needs a full season at AAA, but he definitely isn't ready to break camp with the Cubs in April of 2006. I'd prefer the Cubs try to sign a serviceable CF (or keep Patterson) in order to give Pie time to get some AB's in Iowa next season. If my June-July-August he appears ready, then you bring him up. If not, leave him down until he shows he is ready.
  4. Here's the moves I'd like to see us make. 1. Sign Nomar to a low base, high incentive contract. 2. Sign Brian Giles to a 2 year deal with team option for third year. 3. Sign BJ Ryan for the pen. 4. Trade some minor leaguers for a proven outfield bat, hopefully Adam Dunn, or grab Manny off waivers if he's placed there again. 5. Sign a stop gap CF (ie. Kenny Lofton) to allow Pie to begin the year at AAA. If he performs well, he can be moved up later in the season. 6. Keep Todd Walker. My hopeful line-up: CF Lofton 2B Walker 1B Lee RF Giles 3b Ramirez LF Dunn (or other trade target) SS Garciaparra C Barrett I think that team would be much improved over what we have now. My rotation: Prior Zambrano Wood Maddux Williams/Hill (One of these would likely be moved in a trade for my outfield bat) I'm not going to try to suppose the bench at this point, because there's just too many variables. I'd have Cedeno on it to play infield and give Nomar a day off once or twice a week. I'd likely place Greenberg on it as he gives a good OBP player that can play multiple outfield positions. I wouldn't mind having Hollandsworth back or someone with similar skills. Blanco will be back as he signed a two year deal before the season.
  5. And then the dummy had to go and brag about it on a board which many of us lurk on. I'll bet he'll brag about it to his co-workers at White Castle tomorrow too.
  6. I'm sure his stay here will be short. Congrats on teh great question!! There, now you're not a liar anymore. Just a tool  :lmao:
  7. In regards to this post, I think the mods should see this. I'm sure his stay here will be short.
  8. Great first post... Sarcasm fully intended.
  9. I agree. Baker will never sit the vets, even if we're 10 games out of the wild card with two weeks to play.
  10. I think we've already seen what Hill can do at AAA, and that's why it is important to see what he can learn at the major league level.
  11. With the 51st pick, Ricky's Reefers select Antonio Gates, TE.
  12. With the 50th pick, Rickey's Reefers select Larry Fitzgerald, WR.
  13. We can't afford to lose a series to the Rockies. Not that I hold out any real hopes for the wild card, but this is a series we absolutely have to win.
  14. This is my last post to you dude. You're acting unreasonable. I'm not Corey bashing, I'm giving props to Hairston for his effort. If I was batting .230, I'd do whatever it takes to somehow get to first safe. If it meant sliding, I'd do it. That's freaking hilarious. Sliding actually slows you down when going into first. Most all analysts will tell you this. So, you give Hairston props for appearing to hustle, even if it actually impeded his efforts. Learn something about baseball before you comment next time. If there is a next time, Mr. The_Realist.
  15. I guess I'm not the only becoming frustrated that we keep stranding runners in scoring position.
  16. And I'm one of the posters with over 10,000 posts.
  17. I know that during the 80's the Braves had some three game losing streaks. They were horrid during most of that decade.
  18. Rusch pitched poorly on Saturday?? Did you watch the game and see the defense behind Rusch?? If Rusch doesn't keep his composure, the game could have been 12-0 by the 5th. I saw the game and he's lucky it wasn't worse. In the first inning, he was missing badly, falling behind in the count and getting hit hard. In fact with the bases loaded and a full count, he got a gift strike (it was below the knees) for strike three. Had the umpire called it correctly, he would have walked in another run that inning. I will give him credit for settling down and limiting the damage in the later innings, but there was little impressive about his performace. Rusch was clutch when we needed him last season, and he may be the best option we have....but considering I don't see this team going anywhere...I think it would be more prudent letting a rookie take his lumps in the major leagues than to give starts to a major league journeyman.
  19. Another Patterson thread....I'm thrilled!
  20. I like the nameless unis. Now if we could get rid of the alternate blue tops... :-k
  21. Using ChiCubsFan list again, he selects Michael Clayton WR
  22. ChiCubsFan left me a list and selects Tony Gonzalez, TE.
  23. Still 30 wins away from 90. We need to go 30-9 the rest of the way. I'm not sure we'll make it.
