    I dislike Baker as much as the next guy, but hyperbole aside it isn't true. I hope Baker gets canned, and will be dissapointed if he's not...but we can contend with him. We did last year. We did in 2003. Baker kept his Barry Bonds-led Giants right there as well. So, to say we are out of the playoff race no matter what next year if Baker is at the helm is just posturing and has little truth to it whatsoever.

    Murton's BABIP last year was 50 points lower. Fluke I say! Murton with a five vote lead over Nolasco. The electorate responds!

    His OBP at all levels was over 400. He's proven he can sustain it at all levels. While he may have small sample sizes if you isolate any level, looking at them all shows a remarkably consistent picture. His AA numbers alone would put him in serious contention for this award, but when it is combined with the fact that he has maintained those numbers at each level, places him in a different level than any of the other candidates. Nolasco is a good second place...and if we had a separate award for minor league pitcher of the year, he'd likely get my vote. But as it stands, Murton should be the hands down winner of this award this year. Nolasco can win it next season when Murton is playing fulltime in the majors.

    I was thinking the same thing, but I would rather have Giles than Huff. I know Huff is younger, but Giles OBP is hard to pass up. Now if we can go a few million over $100... There's nothing saying we couldn't have both. I'll try to work out the logistics on such a scenario at a later time. Assuming we make a trade for Lugo and Huff, giving up Nolasco, Sing, and another minor league pitcher. We'd have Lugo at 5 million and Huff at what 6.4-7 million? We could still afford to offer Giles 8 million to play right. Nolasco, Sing, Hill, and Fontenot for Lugo and Huff...Sign Giles to a 3 year 30 million dollar deal...sign Milwood to a 6-7 million dollar deal...resign Dempter at $4 Million, and add 2 quality set up guys at about $2 million each. That team would be at or under $100 million. Question marks would be the bullpen and CF. Both of those though have the potential to be good though depending on the young relief pitchers (Aardsma, Guzman?) and Pie. I think that package is overpaying for Huff and Lugo (two players the Devil Rays may not even be able to afford). There's no way I include both Nolasco and Hill in the deal.

    On Monday, 9 picks were made which is a great pace. Tuesday, seven selections were made which isn't bad. However, since then, 3 picks were made on Wednesday, 1 selection on Thursday, 2 on Friday, and 1 today. Maybe we you make your pick you could send a message to the next person and the one on deck to help move this along. 3 picks or fewer a day is a snails pace and will take us half a week just to get throug a round.

    It's to the point that I could care less if Walker goes as well. SHip him off for a prospect and play Hairston next year. If we swap Walker's production for Hairston, we will take a step down in secondbase production for 2006.

    I agree the season is done, but what's a more prudent move: rewarding a career minor leaguer who has no future with your big league organization or letting a player who may have a future with the team get a longer look at major league pitching? I think the answer is obvious which is why I can't fathom this move. I like McClain. He seems to be a hard working, nice guy. But, Fontenot is a player who likely has a greater future with the organization and these could be valuable at bats for him. Vance, I agree. The one thing that comes to mind is that the Cubs may want to move him too?!?! What if he comes up and plays really well. Maybe you can package him w/ Holly for a great prospect........ But you only have four more days to move him....I just don't see that as a possibility. And even packaged with Hollandsworth we won't get anything more than a mediocre prospect. Career minor leaguers who play well in four games have little to no value.
