  1. Instead of Hunter, why not see what it would take to pry Andruw Jones away from the Braves?
  2. I'm not completely opposed to getting Hunter, but I wouldn't want to give up too much to get him. If I could get Hunter for Patterson, or Hunter for Wellemeyer, or Hunter for Mitre...or something along those lines, I might take him even at that salary. If the Twins are looking to unload all the salary and get decent players in return, I'd have to pass. The salary is a burden that can be overcome. The Cubs have money to spend. I wouldn't want to trade too much in the way of players.
  3. Does it frighten anyone that the Cubs might trade Todd Walker and Patterson for Hunter and a prospect from the Twins?
  4. Wow...Ribbee, I never knew you were only four. If I had, I would have never suggested you pitch or get promoted. You're way too young to have anything to do with Dusty's team. But I bet Macias would think it was cool if you'd play peek-a-boo with him and Darren sometime.
  5. I heard the Hrabosky felt the scorer should have rules that HR an error on Suppan.
  6. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v257/vance_the_cubs_fan/armstrong.jpg THIS THREAD BLOWS!
  7. I would definitely give the award to Todd Jones. To have the season he's had at his age deserves some recognition.
  8. I'm in a league that starts 2 WR and a Flex. We score 1 point for every 20 yds receiving and 6 for a TD. I have Tiki Barber for the flex, so I need to choose two reeceivers to start from this group of four: Joe Horn, Lavernous Coles, Larry Fitzgerald, and Deion Branch. Also...help me pick my QB from Aaron Brooks, Matt Hasselback, and Eli Manning.
  9. I may even write lesson plans tonight instead of watching. You know it's bad when I'm actually contemplating work.
  10. I'd rather watch re-runs of Laguna Beach than watch that WS. I would have absolutely no interest at all in who won.
  11. It's all going to depend if my streaky offense shows up or not.
  12. If the Sox blow that lead....I'm going to laugh for days.
  13. I watch so little basketball, I'll join only if I get Dirk. I don't know too many other players. :P
  14. I'm not too critical on Baker's quotes, but these were pretty bad, despite the fact he's quoting someone else in the 1st bolded one. Those quotes are down right frightening.
  15. BBB raises some great points. (And thanks for the kind words.) I think an influx of newbies could create more work for the mods, but it also has the ability to raise the prominence(sp?) of the site. I'm not sure that more traffic will necessarily lead to more revenue for the site, but it surely can't hurt. If the Cubs see this site as the primary Cubs fan site on the web, it could also increase access to the players and the team. This access will bring us more of the indepth and inside information we crave. If people are worried about the diamonds among the poop, so to speak, it just makes it more imperative for the posters who bring the diamonds to post more often.
  16. To change your name, just pm Tim, 1908, or modzilla if you dare. Whether or not to change is entirely up to you. If you do change, I'd put a statement in your sig as to your previous idenity for awhile. While it isn't necessary, having the same user name could allow posters from both forums recognize you if that's something you desire to occur.
  17. Dusty, Neifi, Macias, and Burnitz to the D'backs for Quentin and Valverde. It's a deal.
  18. *sigh* Nice laydown. I'll take that to mean you concede the point. FWIW, I don't have anything against Theriot. I'm thrilled for the kid. I just think it's hilarious when people are pining for Dusty to play every mediocre non-prospect in the system. Also, I think it's a bit hypocritcal for people to be frustrated by Dusty's refusal to play kids, while at once not finding fault in that same kid's failure to get a bunt down. If you didn't "expect" him to get the bunt down when he was sent to the plate -- like you would if it were Perez/Patterson/etc. -- how can you fault Dusty for thinking likewise? I think it was more that he no longer wanted to have to stand in the face of idiocy. Thanks for addressing the substance of my post. In any event, you win the name-calling contest. Hooray! I think I did address the substance, what little there is to it. I've detailed the Theriot AB and explained why it was a good AB, though not a successful AB. I will dare to say that there's hardly a hitter if any on our team who could have hit that strike three pitch. It was a perfect pitch. While no one wants to see some one look at strike three, most hitters would have swung through and missed on that slider. My only fault that I find is that he didn't attempt to bunt on the first pitch which would have given him two chances to get the bunt down.

  20. Patterson wouldn't have had that at bat because there's not way he would have fouled those pitches off. he would've messed up the bunt twice and then whiffed on the next pitch. And also, Patterson is now in his 4th major league season. That was Theriot's first MLB at-bat. And he already did better than Patterson. So, your point is totally invalid. So, it's okay for you to have lesser standards for Theriot (and other call-ups) because they're young, while at once being outraged that Dusty thinks young players are too inexperienced to play? It seems to me you can't have it both ways. Either you expect them to succeed, or you don't. And if you don't, you can't really get mad at the manager when he similarly expects failure. Actually, I would have felt it was a good at bat from whomever. I don't know why he swung away on the first pitch, but that is the only area I fault him. He should have bunted there as well. As it was, he fouled off one bunt attempt, getting himself in an 0-2 pickle. He then proceeded to work the count to 3-2. The third strike was a nice pitch. Most hitters would either get called out on it or swing through and miss. He got called out on a nasty slider dropping out of the zone. Weathers made a perfect pitch there and Theriot wasn't going to get the benefit of the call.
  21. That Walker guy sucks. We should trade him.
  22. I'm not sure how (1) failing to get the bunt down, then (2) taking a called third strike can be called a "Good AB," but, hey, whatever. He fouled off a couple pitches though! He worked back from an 0-2 count to a full count in his first major league AB, while fouling off some tough pitches, and was called out on a pitch that many guys would get rung on. It was a nice AB
