  1. However... this scout.com site used to be the Cardinals Birdhouse, co-owned by Brian Walton and Ray Mileur. One of those two broke the Albert Pujols re-signing. ESPN credited whichever one broke it when they put it on their site... Also: I do see what you're saying. They also guaranteed Renteria would re-sign. The next day, he had a Red Sox had on. Still.. I think that airport topic (which popped up before the link, mind you), almost guarantees it. I could be wrong, though. Do you know how many times during the winter I've seen an "airport" thread on a message board? Once there was Pudge was seen in a Chicago airport. I've heard all kinds. It's just not reliable. I'm not saying it won't happen. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it does. It's just far from proven yet.
  2. I was just IM'ng with Rubby Perez. He said that his brother Neifi said Furcal was indeed coming here but got really ticked off when he was surfing the net that the Cubs would leak the announcement to their broadcaster and even more upset that the broadcaster would tell it to two random kids who'd post it on a message board that he didn't want to be a part of such a Mickey Mouse organization that he decided to take the Dodger's money. So, I'm sorry. It looks like Len and you guys were right...but your lack of discretion cost the Cubs Furcal.
  3. Remember when InsidetheIvy, also a Scout site, broke the story we would sign Furcal And trade for Mench and Soriano. Please forgive me if I'm skeptical.
  4. My guess is Sosa will have to swallow his pride and accept a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
  5. Words cannot describe my feelings now.
  6. I think the Newark Bears are hoping to bat him behind Rickey Henderson in the line-up.
  7. I believe Philly is on the list of teams Vasquez does not wish to be traded to.
  8. Where does Hendry throw away all that money if he gets Wilkerson and Bradley? You know he has to spend it or people will riot. Extensions for Lee, Prior, and Zambrano. Use the extra money to pay them more now so they'll accept a little less down the road.
  9. I would do Wilkerson for Williams in a heartbeat and not think twice about it. I'd then turn around and make an offer for either Bradley or Pierre and call it an offseason. I'd try to make both deals without including Walker. Either this line-up: Pierre Walker Lee Ramirez Wilkerson Murton Barrett Cedeno/Perez or Wilkerson Walker Lee Ramirez Bradley Murton Barrett Cedeno/Perez would not be too bad.
  10. As long as it doesn't happen again.
  11. Actually, when someone makes a bogus claim and uses a Cubs personell (sp?) as his source, it is a big deal. If I claimed to have a conversation with Gerry Hughes and I claim that he told me the Cubs are about to sign Burnett for 5/55 and then it is proved false, I'd expect to be ripped. First of all, it lowers the integrity of this board. Secondly it may cause some casual readers to question the integrity of the person claimed as a source. Third, it's fair game to rip Bruce Levine, Peter Gammons, or any other person who tries to get the "scoop." I think the same should happen here. If I claim to have an "inside" scoop and I'm proven false, I expect the same level of critique. The fact remains, the report left no room for doubt. "100%" was how it was reported. Had he said "likely", "leaning toward", or something that left room for change then I'd probably drop it a lot sooner. Once again, he was given bum information and then apologized for it. In the grand scheme of life, it really is not that big of a deal. He learned his lesson, let's move on. This is a message board, not the United Nations. Exactly, so we're free to opine about the occurances here.

  13. We'll see what? We've been knowing that Pierre was a target. I've heard rumors of the Cubs and Burnett for a month now. None of that is surprising and if any of those happened it would prove nothing. Now if you have something specific as you claimed last night and it comes to pass, your source, whether it's Len or not, will be vindicated. As it is right now, your source, whoever it may be, is dubious.
  14. how would len get on tv and say its him? + who has the username and password to his WGN account? all i'm saying is he said on tv himself that he was on the boards and + you all had a Q and A session on here with Len I'm not trying to attack you, but you made a claim based on what should be a reliable source. That assertion was proved false. According to convo you published on cubs.com, Len told you "100% certain." That doesn't leave much room to wiggle. So, are you suggesting Len lied? I asked him to. He said 100% That means either it wasn't Len, Len likes to mess with people, Len really isn't a reliable source, or you lied because if he said 100% and it didn't happen...what other options are there. The convo was like this: Aramis Fan: remember me from the nsbb q and a? Len: I can only answer short questions at the moment Aramis Fan: Are you 100% sure Furcal is coming to the Cubs? Len: Yes, Jim Hendry told me Aramis Fan: when will he be signed? Len: I'm busy at the moment So, should we conclude that Jim lied to Len?
  15. But, assuming Furcal changed his mind, it still doesn't allow for the "100% comment." If he'd said Furcal was leaning toward the Cubs or something that left a little wiggle room...then great. So, maybe it was Len and it just means Len knows as much about what the Cubs are doing than the rest of us.

  17. It was Len. It was the screen name he left on the cubs.com board before he was kicked off. Seeing as how Len wrote about getting kicked off the next day on his blog, all the info he left is real. Why he would give out his sn is beyond me but that was indeed Len. That just seems very weird that somebody who works for the Cubs would post on an internet message board about inside dealings. He seems to be more laid back than other broadcasters and is very close with the Cubs fan base (We know for FACTS taht he did the Q and A here and he was on the Cubs.com boards) We also know the "Fact" that Furcal is now a Dodger. This doesn't pass the smell test.

Seeing as how Len wrote about getting kicked off the next day on his blog, all the info he left is real. Why he would give out his sn is beyond me but that was indeed Len. Maybe you should email him and ask him why he lied then. The facts are in, so one of those four has to be the possibility.

  20. Seattle has made Ichiro untouchable. He isn't going anywhere. Agreed.
  21. I don't have any hard feelings, but I think you've been seriously duped. I think it is highly unlikely that Len would be giving out "inside" scoops to someone he IM's that isn't a friend or a professional relationship. I also highly doubt that during the offseason Len is aware of the indepth workings of the Cubs front office other than mere speculation. Third, I think you likely have been the victim of someone posing to be Len for his/her own amusement. Looking at the outcome of last night's events, there are a few likely scenarios. 1. Len lied. 2. It wasn't really Len. 3. Len was giving his speculation and you took it as fact. 4. You lied. It's not like the Dodgers offer wasn't known before last night, so saying the Dodgers made an offer that wasn't present at the time of your post is out of the question. My guess is on number two.
  22. My source at Hooters still disputes this account.
  23. Actually, what the Marlins are doing is the right thing in my opinion. Assuming that they figured that once they dealt enough players to get under what they could spend, they realized they were not going to be a competitive team for a couple of years. Is it better then to hold on to players who will not be with you when you are competitive again or is it better to deal those as well in order to get you more pieces to help you when you do plan to be competitive? I think the second option is what you should do and it is exactly what the Marlins are doing. Secondly, they have chosen the best time to do such a "fire sale". With the weak FA class, their trading chips have more value than they would in a year when teams could fix their problems via free agency. Third is losing 100 games that much worse than losing 88-90 in the grand sceme of things? Finally, before someone injects that they are alienating their fan base, the Marlins haven't had much of a fan base to begin with and it's doubtful that they will stay in South Florida. It's better to have a strong young nucleus to compete with and for your new fan base to grow with when you move to a new locale than to hang on to some players just because they're popular with the 5,000 fans who happen to come to your games.
  24. I disagree. I just think those that know their antics won't be tolerated, or in some respects have been banned because of, are a little jealous of the contacts that this site has developed. Jealousy runs deep for some.
  25. In my opinion, losing out to Furcal should cement Walker on the roster. I know that Hendry likely thinks otherwise, but there aren't any secondbasemen available that would be an upgrade over Walker. I still think the Cubs have the chips to trade for outfield help without giving up Walker. First, I have to believe a 23-year-old Jerome Williams has to have some value to teams looking for pitching help. The Cubs still have a large number of minor league pitchers who could be moved. The biggest asset the Cubs have is payroll to take on about any contract someone wants to move. I wouldn't look to trading Walker at this stage.
