  1. Theriot would be a good utility player.
  2. If he puts up anything less than his Iowa line this year, I'll be real disappointed in him. Also, Carlos Marmol will move to the rotation and STILL have an ERA under 2. Or else. Soto hasn't been good enough to help the team win in the postseason. Next postseason will just be a repeat of this again. What? Sorry, just tired of all the Soto talk. He has been playing all series and the Cubs are still getting it handed to them. Apparently, he is not the saviour that everybody believes he is.
  3. As Brian Anderson would say.... The Cubs are within Grand Slam range.

  5. Ah but the pundits will blame Lou. As they should, he has been terrible this series.
  6. Most of which is propped up by 2 doubles coming against the Cubs in 2003. i don't believe in clutch, but i believe in choking. and lee looks terrified out there. it's pathetic. It helps that he just watches the fastballs right down the middle and swings and the garbage.
  7. sort of, but when your "good" hitters don't show up you're not going to win regardless of what the manager does It didn't take a genius to figure out that Lilly didn't have it tonight. He didn't have to wait until the Cubs were down 6-2 to take him out. He also repeatedly lets the pitcher bat in key situations, and then takes them out the next inning.
  8. The worst thing about it is that with the Payroll, we are stuck with this same team for another 3-4 years.
  9. What happened to Good Lou? He has been making some real bad decisions all NLDS, and is going to end up costing the Cubs a chance.
  10. Kendall has got to be pretty upset right now. Having said that, if Soto hits like he did in the regular season, who cares.
  11. Less than 5 Hours until game time, where are the lineups?
  12. Webb pitched a great game. Just give him the credit for being the better pitcher last night and move on. This reminds me of the Dusty Baker days, when everytime the Cubs lost is was someone else's fault. Last night the blame was all on the Cubs and their lack of offense.
  13. Well... he did have a key walk that moved a runner over to third for Theriot's IF RBI single. He was 0-1 in SB attempts, but who knows how many times the DBacks would have went for a SB with Kendall behind the plate. I'm pretty sure that Kendall would have been just as patient in that situation. Also, the D-Backs rarely had the opportunity to run last night. The reason they weren't running wasn't because Soto was behind the plate instead of Kendall. I don't think Kendall is a great catcher, but I'm not going to complain if he plays instead of Soto tonight. I think you're mistaken if you think that the D'Backs won't try to run a lot more with Kendall behind the plate than with Soto. With Kendall back there, you're pretty much giving any runner with remotely good speed second base. Soto's .286% caught stealing is not scaring any team into not running. If the D-Backs want to run they are going to run regardless of whether Mr. .286% or Mr. .088 % is behind the plate.
  14. You can say that for just about anyone the Cubs line-up yesterday. Very true. Outside of DeRosa, the Cubs approaches were terrible.

  16. Its not like Soto made a big (positive) difference in last night's game.
  17. That reminds me. I forget which inning it was that Lee was on first and A-Ram struck out but the ball got away and Lee went to 2nd. A-Ram started to run to first but it looked like he was told by the home plate ump he was out. Why couldn't he advance on a dropped 3rd strike? Because there was a runner on 1B.
  18. Pretty disappointed. I waited for over an 1 1/2 HRs to get tickets, and when I finally got selected, all they had was SRO tickets for a group of 4. :(
  19. Why can't they pick a normal time to start the ballgame?
  20. The most frustrating thing about the loss last night, was the Cubs approach at the plate. Zambrano was pitching his tail off, and the hitters did not have their head in the game. There were at least two times that the Cubs had a runner at 2B with no outs and they failed to execute. Instead of moving the runner over, they were swinging for the fences and striking out in key situations. I was really not suprised, as that has been their MO all year long. Lets hope that their approach works better against Davis and Co.
  21. I just talked to someone with inside info and they verified this story, they also said that Sunday they will bring in a goat to sing it. :^o
  22. I would trade gladly trade Hendry for Jocketty. Its not like Jocketty hasn't enjoyed some success as GM and St. Louis.
  23. I don't think it is a big deal. They play a maximum of 5 games with this roster. Its not like there is another player that is more deserving than Marquis. I'm sure they put him on the roster because he did a decent job this year and has another 2 years on his contract.
  24. There is very little doubt in my mind that this is the Brewer's division for the next several years. The Brewers dont' have the pitching to win the division.
  25. First name that comes to mind is Paul DePodesta. Maybe he can get his old team to give up some of those young players like Kemp, Billingsley, Loney, etc that are such trouble makers. DePodesta was a GM for a total of 2 years. That hardly qualifies as "consistently above average." That is my problem with people that constantly complain about Hendry and how easy it would be to replace him with a better GM. Sure, potentially there are better GMs, but the names that keep getting thrown around are terrible. DePodesta? Hendry has had more success than Depodesta. As you pointed out, Depodesta got 2 years. Hard to really get a lot of success, dontcha think? How do you know he's terrible when he has barely gotten a shot? Way to avoid defending DePodesta. If you can't win with facts try to win by playing semantics? What about DePodesta makes him a "consistently above average GM?
