Maybe Steve Stone was right last year, and Soto needs to get back on the juice over the off season.

Inevitably, that did get mentioned in the Tribune article link that was posted. It's also been mentioned in this thread..... but what the hell....... CUBS are 32-42 when Soto starts..... 33-21 when K Hill starts CUBS pitchers' ERA in games that Soto starts 4.24..... in games that K Hill starts 3.38 CUBS' Runs scored per game when Soto starts 3.93.... when K Hill starts 5.15 Opponents runs scored per game when Soto starts 4.49.... when K Hill starts 4.00 CUBS run differential when Soto starts -43.... when K Hill starts +62 Those stats bode well for Hill. I would be interested to find out if the pitchers like throwing to Hill more than Soto.

If Hendry were certain he could get Halladay, fine. But that is a pretty big gamble considering the state of the rotation. The only reason to trade him at this point would be to use the trade deadline as leverage and milk Minnesota for all they can get. As mentioned before, they can still trade him in the off season if need be.

Yes, why not try to go into the year with a strong bench. Fox has proven he can be a valuable asset to the team, if Lee, Ramirez, Soriano or Bradley get hurt, it would be nice to have him ready to fill in.

Speculation from Phil Rogers: I hope that Hendry is shooting higher than two relief prospects. BTW if that is all Hendry is asking for, Twins would be idiots to balk at that. edit: Slama and Delaney are definitely interesting prospects. Nice K rates and Delaney has a minor league career 0.98 Whip over 4 seasons.

The Twins system is very thin, but Revere and Hicks would be a good return for a month of Harden, and I would do the trade. Revere may never flash big power, but he makes a lot of contact and gets on base at a good clip. Looking at the last few drafts, it seems unrealistic that the Cubs would get better value than those two.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. :-)) Enjoy the bench Geo. It is bad when you lose your job to Koyie Hill. The only good thing about benching him now, is that maybe some team will be dumb enough to think that they can turn Soto around during the off season and will trade something of value for him or it will motivate Soto to actually put in some work next year.

Screw that, the Cubs need to hand on to Harden and re sign him to show their fans that they're for real. Yes, unless the Twins are giving the Cubs at least 2 of their top prospects they should hold on to Harden and take their chances with arbitration. Even if Harden agreed to arbitration and the Cubs had no intention of keeping him, they could still find a market for him in the offseason. Rosenthal is spot on regarding his other observation that the pressure here on the Twins is extreme. They really want to keep Morneau and Mauer, and they were getting blasted around the trade deadline for not being more aggressive. The AL Central is a winnable division for them and Harden would go a long way to giving the team a boost down the stretch. People are excited about the possibility of him playing at the Metrodome. IMO the Cubs hold all of the cards and should squeeze the Twins for everything they can get. After looking at the Twins prospect lists, they seem to be pretty thin at the top.

You must not pay attention to the farm system. This year it has taken a big step forward. i'm aware. i'm just saying that it's still not very good. So what? It's gone from a bottom of the barrell system to a pretty average system in a years time. This year's picks have looked promising as well. If they can improve next year then we all of a sudden have solid to above average farm system. Either way, the lone bright spot for this season is the play in the minors. Please don't suck the life out of that like you do with everything else on this board. jesus. all i said is that our farm system has gotten better, but it's not "beefed up". that's all i'm saying. it's gone from crappy to maybe average. is that not true? stop looking for stuff to pick apart. Seems like a petty distinction to me. My initial point still stands, Hendry has an opportunity to "improve" the farm system even further. I hope he takes advantage of it.

Agreed, I don't see how you don't get excited about a kid with Casto's potential. What he has done so far in his short minor league career is remarkable.
