  1. For clarification, He will be referred to as Theo and not Epstein. We never called Hendry, Jim. The name is definitely "Welcome Back Kotterish"
  2. I've read a few accounts that MLB got involved to try to tap down the Cubs' offer to Theo to keep front office compensation in line. It would seem inconsistent to me if that didn't carry over to team compensation. What so hard about giving Boston a Compensation package of Soriano and Zambrano, a straight straight up trade, and we can even through in Mike Quade and any left over toothpicks from the Dusty days.
  3. come on give them credit, We of all people know that Carpenter when on is almost unstoppable. Proves that we came from a very competitive division.
  4. OMG the Miami Heat lose!!!!!!
  5. if beane gets the job he'll likely hire a broken down, old failure. someone who's got no dignity left, a broken man with no dreams or illusions of being even a respected name. someone who will do whatever he's told so that he can eat that day. and that's who i want. That "Want AD" would be depressing to read, and the response from the candidate to the advertisement to his wife.....
  6. Marshall was the only legit. A for me. Garza was close, but I noticed nobody commente so far in the thread on Quade=F for me. How could Z possibly get an "A" from anybody?
  7. so we are hiring Pete Rose and Gary Gietti
  8. A. that is pretty definitive "no" for Z returning. B. Was Bobby V. interviewing there. His lips were planted firmly against Rickets rear
  9. We have seemed to have gotten away from drafting as many pitchers as possible and then trading for position players philosophy.
  10. Wow, MLB playewrs drinking!!! that would have never happened back in the day. I mean the part about getting suspended for drinking, or letting the press find out.
  11. It is a different time and place from when WGN helped them draw in a nationwide audience. Exposure in a starved market is how they capitalized on that issue. But that era is over. Keeping them on WGN isn't just a hit to the short-term bottom line, it's bad for long-term business. The nationwide presence is there. And it's not going anywhere, unless they just lose every season. Would anybody actually watch WGN if it weren't for the Cubs?
  12. Hey, do you think they will sell them like bleacher seats, what a great planter box they would make or conversation piece in your newly remodelled bathroom
  13. whew, so worried that 5 tool guy C. Pat was going to burn his former team.
  14. Isn't that the John Kruk theory of mathematical probability?
  15. In the nosew bleed seats with Bob Ueker
  16. In Ohio for a week and didn't realize that the Cubs are just playing an hour away, so I will be heading to Pittsburg for the game on Sunday, will anybody else from NSBB be there?
  17. Thanks for pointing that out, too bad it wasn't right after his only win of the year so he could leave on a very happy note and we could even be happy about it
  18. Over the last week we have been playing better. I do believe we can upgrade our condition from "Z's" characterization from AAA to AAAA
  19. I am sure they have some great battles that we will never see and it will only make each of them better. Cael is just hitting his prime as a wrestler and could easily go 2012 and 16 olympics. I didn't know the World Trials are in OKC this weekend. Hmmm, wife will be gone kids have a sleep over, I may have t tell my wife I am going to OKC (4 hours) to look for a new pick-up for her business.
  20. Hey, how did my plumber get into MLB? or maybe that is a picture of a church League softball game.
  21. Expanding the DH is an interesting topic. I've read several places this season that more players than not HATE to DH and would rather play the field as well. That makes me cautiously optimistic that the damn thing will be gone within my lifetime. Players are idiots. There is no chance of the DH being gone in your lifetime. There is an infinitely higher chance that it's adopted by the NL. Why exactly are the players idiots for wanting to play the field as well? GM's are more willing to pay for a guy who can hit 20 HR's and also play the field than a guy who hits 30 HR's and can only DH. The first player is seen as more versatile. Read the article on Adam Dunn a few weeks ago in SI. Great economic argument, that demonstrates trade offs and opportunity cost. Personally I like the chess game that the manager has to play in the NL esp. in the later inning.
  22. A billion, really?? do they have hidden real-estate in upper state NY I don't know about? They have lost the reputation of having rabid fans, unless they play the Yankees, new stadium lousy location. I suspect it is worth a billion because the city funded 850 million of that stadium, so in reality they are only worth 150 million.
  23. Bob, what the hell does that mean? " Charlie Manuel is a hitters manager." Are their managers that don't like hitting?"
