  1. Two weeks ago i had no interest in baseball. I even chose the following to pass the time just to keep from watching the Cubs: Help a friend move in, work on my car, went out to eat with a friends PARENTS. This coming from a guy whos world stops from 1:20-4 every summer afternoon for the Cubs. The Cardinals and Astros series have got me hooked again and i realize i NEED the Cubs to stay in it. It makes life that much more interesting as pathetic as that sounds. I feel like the boyfriend who continues to get cheated on by a girl but keeps letting her back in even though in the end he knows he's just gonna end up getting hurt. Like that guy, i've sort of come to a point where i want to feel that pain again. So please Cubs, sweep the Rockies, move to within 3.5 at the beginning of September and let me feel that pain/joy again.
  2. Of course i live in Muncie, IN and i get the Marlins/Padres........what the hell
  3. The '93 National Championship should reside in South Bend.
  4. If you're talkin about the Indy Indians mascot I'm totally with ya. Nothing was better as a kid than my father taking me to Indy and sitting in Busch Stadium with a picnic lunch and watching Chief Knocka-Homa do his dance.
  5. Enjoy... http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=jackson/050802 Feel free to email him your thoughts.
  6. Not trying to start the argument back up but has anyone ever heard an Indian refer to himself as a Native American? OleMiss it seems like you've spent alot of time around Indians have you heard an Indian refer to themselves as Native American?
  7. Does nobody think that each and every individual university has gotten into this argument before, and that each and every university has found their mascot to be reasonable?? The fact that the NCAA, the group that governs these universities in athletic events, deams them unreasonable while each individual institution does not is absurd to me. Maybe the native american the Chief Illineweke is portraying is as much of history as anything else in this country. Certainly nobody seeing a native american acting as "the chief" can argue that the past which governs nicknames such as Pilgrims and Minutemen does not apply. Every nickname comes from some sort of history, why does a native american tribe/nickname not apply? Olemisscub......what's that girls number?
  8. Ray Ratto says it better than i can... http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/columns/story?columnist=ratto_ray&id=2126159
  9. It is not the same, and i agree that that the names Redmen and Redskins are offensive. It is, however, the same as Braves, Chiefs, Warriors etc as they describe a sect of Native Americans as does the nickame Concord Minutemen describe a sect of white Americans.
  10. The story about my great grandmother was as fictional as that dialogue you just wrote...here in Indiana there are plenty of mascots that are based off of white men such as the Andrean 59ers, Mishawaka Cavemen, Jimtown Jimmies, Floyd Central Highlanders, Plymouth Pilgrims....etc and not once has any discussion been had about replacing those. All have ridiculous mascots who dance around at games as well. Surely there are some relatives of those folks (well save for cavemen) who would be offended you say? I say NO because its A DANG SPORTS MASCOT
  11. My great grandma got killed by a wildcat therefore i am offended by the use of such a creature as a mascot at all schools where a wildcat is a mascot. Also, cardinals crap on my car from time to time and im offended that such a dispicable creature is allowed to represent the university i go to so that needs to be changed as well.
  12. That was my point initially, hence the title of the thread. The schools that make up the NCAA with these nicknames see nothing wrong with it, and the NCAA lets these schools continue to be a part of the association. However, when a tournament comes along the proverbial crap hits the fan.
  13. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=2125735 Why? For all the people of Irish descent on here does it upset you when you watch a Notre Dame football game? Unbelievable. Also why are the Indiana State Sycamores exempt from this list?
  14. Maybe it's to force a manager into a decision late in the game. In a close game do you bring in a lefty to face Burnitz and use him for just one batter or do you let Burnitz face a righty and take the heat if Burnitz comes through? I highly doubt a big league pitcher is "afraid" of facing anybody on any roster in baseball. I would assume that every pitcher has the confidence to get an out.
  15. Does anyone know if there is a transcript of this speech online anywhere? He had that hair transplant thing. I know this because he's on infomercials at 3a.m.
  16. Because pepper is where you stand in a semicircle and have a guy hit the ball right at the fielders i always thought the sign "No Pepper Games" was sort of in jest, meaning the fans don't want the players to just hit it right back to fielders the entire game they want to see some action. If you guys are right then I was way off, although I really can't see any ballpark actually banning pepper.
