  1. That's why he'll get more money from Hendry...
  2. With all of Hendry's quotes I think it's a given that Hendry doesn't have much interest in Giles. I think our RF (maybe CF too if Cpatt is on his way out) will come via trade (Abreu please).
  3. Which reliever are you referring to? Eyre, whose contract is 2 yrs + option year, or the pending Howry deal? I think he was talking about Eyre. Eyre's contract is a 2 year with a player option for the 3rd year with is pretty much the same as a guaranteed 3-year contract. Add in the fact that he got a NTC and you have to wonder what Hendry is smoking.
  4. Looks like the trade talks for Vazquez are starting to heat up. No mention of teams interested though. Link I could see Hendry interested in Vazquez. If he could get Tracy and Vazquez I would be one happy camper. Vazquez has the chance to be really good and he's going to give you the 200 innings that the Cubs sorely need. Tracy would be just the icing on the top. I'd love to see Tracy in RF. Haven't heard much about Tracy being available though.
  5. It looks like ESPN revised it's article and the Red Sox are taking on Lowell's entire contract. Earlier in the day it said that the Marlins were including cash in the deal. Link
  6. Good lord. 7 premium pages already without Howry even being signed. Must be some good arguing going on. :D
  7. I think they're using something similar to the Hendry Wheel of Misfortune: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v243/eriklj/wheelofmisfortune.jpg  That image is terrific. Even better though in its original context. http://www.desipio.com/2005/11/09/jim-hendrys-wheel-of-misfortune/ Sorry. Didn't mean to make it seem like I made the picture. Just wanted to share. Hope the copyright police aren't coming after me.
  8. So, then either there's a trade-a'comin, or someone is getting released/non tendered. Good work, JeffH please be Macias. please be Macias. please be Macias.
  9. Link Always liked the old logo. I'm interested to see what they'll look like.
  10. ESPN 1000 didn't have anything on their latest sportscenter update. Maybe Gammons just meant that's what the Cubs have offered?
  11. And the Marlins are throwing in money?? ESPN reporting it now Red Sox are making out like bandits.
  12. Anyone else think Lowell with turn things around playing 81 games in Fenway now? I look for him to be good next year getting out of Dolphin Stadium.
  13. I think they're using something similar to the Hendry Wheel of Misfortune: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v243/eriklj/wheelofmisfortune.jpg
  14. Reported on Sportscenter by Gammons. Pending physicals. BoSox get: Beckett and Lowell Marlins get: Hanley Ramirez, Anibal Sanchez, and PTBN Also reported by Star-Telegram
  15. Looks like Beckett is going to the Red Sox. Link Edit: Sportscenter just reported it as well.
  16. The Rangers are out. There's an alert on the top of the front page of the Dallas News Leaves the Bosox and presumably the Dodgers competing for Beckett now.
  17. From what I gather from espn radio Boston has moved ahead of the Rangers in the chase for Beckett, and that Jayson Stark has learned that it might be a three-team trade with a 3rd mystery team. Any thoughts on who the 3rd team might be?
  18. That is one extremely expensive backup. :x
  19. Once again, it looks like there are some unnamed teams that are trying to outbid the Rangers and BoSox for Beckett. I wonder which teams they are. Link
  20. Any way the Cubs are the secret team??? Link
  21. I was just gonna say the same thing. If San Diego, St. Louis, and New York are out of the equation, it probably comes down to Cubs vs. the LA teams. And that would come down to the Cubs interest vs. the Dodgers uncertainty. Maybe Hendry is just playing it cool, but it just doesn't make sense to me why the Cubs wouldn't be serious about getting Giles. He's a perfect fit for this team and it looks like that bidding war that Hendry was worried about won't happen. With the Padres lowballing him and the Dodgers' uncertainty the Cubs are seemingly set up perfectly to make a run at him.
  22. We just reassigned a guy who is probably even better than Hill based on these criteria: Mike Fontenot. I don't know all the rules about roster space and free agents and the like, but has the organization explicitly chosen Macias over Fontenot? I think the fact that Fontenot was stranded in AAA most of the year while Macias was first off the bench in a PH role should give you your answer to that.
  23. Haven't seen anything posted today about Giles with all the Marlins' firesale talk, but I found this interesting. Looks like Giles might not want to play for the Yankees. Link With this and with the Cards seemingly worried more about pitching than Giles why isn't Hendry swooping in and getting Giles while he can? I know he's said he doesn't want to get into a bidding war, but it's starting to play out like there won't be much of a bidding war for Giles.
  24. If Wood's on the 60-day DL I don't think he counts against the 40-man. There is no 60 day DL during the offseason. He counts. So then is Scott Moore actually on there? Or is he not? Under cubs.com transactions it says the Cubs purchased the contract of Scott Moore and added him to the 40-man roster so I assume he's on there and it's just a typo.
