  1. Please be true... Jones wouldn't be a bad fit in St. Louis. They don't need the same type of player the Cubs do. Still, almost $7 million per year for Jones? They could spend another $3 million a year and get Giles.
  2. The article doesn't make much sense. $100 million? That's insane. Also, it looks like ITI is doing a free preview weekend trying to get more people to buy their membership by giving out juicy information that can only be found on their site (don't see Furcal almost a Cub on any other site). ITI is usually pretty good about their information, but this one leaves me puzzled.
  3. What if Hendry traded for Abreu or Dunn? Still be pissed?
  4. Actually, at this point any additional class A or B free agent will merely cost us a 4th round draft choice. We've already blown our second and third rounders on relievers. I don't think anyone in their right mind would have predicted that at the beginning of the offseason.
  5. Link Probably become a decent player now that he's in the Braves' organization.
  6. The 2006 season will not exist to me if that happens.
  7. Agreed. I don't think I could handle another season of watching Clement walk the bases loaded and then strike out the side every other inning.
  8. Any way the Mets now try and flip Delgado to the Red Sox for Manny?
  9. IIRC, Delgado had no interest in playing for the Mets. Delgado showed no interest in wanting to be traded this year either. Should be interesting to see how this plays off. Could he cause some problems in that clubhouse?
  10. Could you imagine the joy this would bring to replace Macias with Mabry? I'm giddy just thinking about it.
  11. Petit is going to be very good. Is the 1st baseman Brazille? Here me now and believe me later, the Las Vegas Gamblers are going to be very, very good. No, it's not Brazille. It's Mike Jacobs.
  12. Sign him up. He'd be a great bench guy. Much better than seeing Macias playing 3b when Aramis needs a day off. He could also give D Lee an occasional day off. I'm all for it.
  13. Here's an article about it. Looks like it's a done deal. Link Maybe the Cubs should have a fire sale. The Marlins sure are getting a bunch of good prospects. How much do you think we could get for Neifi?
  14. I wish I could wake up one morning and have Cold Pizza tell me Abreu/Giles was a Cub...
  15. Looks like they're almost halfway done with tearing down Busch II. Picture from KMOV webcam: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v243/eriklj/stadium_640.jpg
  16. $13 mill a year? Do you think the bidding is going to go that high?
  17. I hope he has found a new pilot. Neifi could fly him around in that new private jet he just bought with the Cubs money.
  18. He lists the Cardinals, Mariners, Dodgers, and Yankees as suitors. No mention of the Cubs. It appears Giles's price is a minimum of 3/30. Why we won't go that high is a mystery, but according to Rosenthal (sketchy source I know), the Padres are out. I also found it interesting that Jacque Jones has set his price at 6-8 million a year. No way would I pay that much for Jones. Think Hendry might?? :ohnoes:
  19. Isnt there a team already occupying Boston? Guess not... Yeah I can't think of a worse idea. There isn't a fan base less likely to embrace a second team. They'd get 2000 people a game until the cross town interleague series which would sell out. I bet Steinbrenner would be all over buying them though. Bring on the crosstown rivalry!!!
  20. 21 pages, huh? I wonder how many pages there will be if Hendry actually signs Howry to the rumored 3-year deal. Has there been anything new about the deal today?
  21. No one is hating on Howry. People are upset that if the reports are true about Howry, Hendry will have signed two middle relievers to 3-year contracts worth over $10 million each. That's unheard of, and I think most of us think it's not the most intelligent idea.
  22. The Marlins' president David Samson just had a press conference at 2 pm ET that was a live feed on marlins.mlb.com in which he said the Marlins have tried and tried to get a new stadium built, but to no avail. There will be no deal in the city of Miami. They then tried to get a deal done elsewhere to start in 2008 in a new stadium. Now it looks like if they do find somewhere to go the earliest will be 2010. The lease at Dolphins' stadium runs out in 2010 and Samson said there was absolutely no way the Marlins would renew the lease to keep playing in Dolphins' stadium. There will be no new stadium in south Florida for the Marlins. Samson said Loria will never sell the Marlins' franchise. Now to the baseball side, the Marlins' will now start having a payroll that reflects the revenue brought in each year. Expect the payroll to go down drastically to around $42-$45 million. They will continue looking elsewhere to find a place to play. They have permission from MLB to start looking to relocate the team. They can move the team any time after 2007. They need to find a place to play before 2010. Will continue with negotiations with Miami, but time is running out. Most likely the Marlins will be moved by 2010. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wow. Sounds like the Marlins are in trouble.
  23. Furcal has sort of been on the back burner lately, but Levine was just on ESPN 1000 saying that it's a 2-team race for Furcal between the Cubs and the Braves and that he expects something to happen before the winter meetings. Taken with a grain of salt of course.
