    I thought the whole reason the Phillies wanted to trade Abreu was to free up some money and get pitching back in return. Why would they want to trade for Manny and his huge contract, even if the Red Sox eat some money?

    great post. i agree 100%. of course some know-it-alls on this board said no way giles doesnt go to the highest because its all about $ but apparently they were incorrect. Thanks for putting us all in our place. I guess you knew Giles much better than we did. :roll:

    The post you made was about an article that was already posted in another one of the Furcal threads. The Mods like to keep things neat so they lock threads that are similar.

    They'll move kent to first, and Walker will play second. As for Konerko, I don't think the Dodgers would be interested. Wow. The hole between 1st and 2nd would be massive with those two on the right side of the field. :shock:

    Pierre. Ok, but Wilson is better with a similar OBP and far more power. He is probably at least equal defensively, doesn't cost us prospects, and is probably similar money wise. I could live with Wilson in CF if we get a real RF and would certainly prefer him to Pierre. As it stands, I would opt for Bradley for CF but that RF still needs to be identified. The answer to the question is deeper, as it depends on Pierre's health and combined ability to stay healthy. All of his skills are dependant on his ability to run. Wilson just doesn't help our team, same as Soriano. Cubs were 1st in AVG and SLG, and near last in OBP. His OBP and SLP far exceed what we had in CF last year so he does improve the team. I'm not saying he's a great choice, but he is better than some names floating around. Except the article isn't saying Hendry is interested in Wilson for CF. It says Hendry has mild interest in Wilson as the RF.

    I don't see how anything you showed proved that he isn't bad. At best he's a good platoon player worthy of a 1 year deal. 2/12 is insane for that crappy production from a RF. He had mild success in his mid 20s, then a career year in Colorado, and has regressed in his 30s. He would be a terrible choice for RF. You are basically locking yourself into 2 more years of Burnitz like underperformance at a crucial offensive position in an already weak lineup. Look dude, Christian Guzman is bad. Preston Wilson is not bad. You're okay with those numbers in RF?? They're not even good for a CF, let alone a RF where you expect much better offensive numbers. Wilson as a RF is bad.

    Wonder what Hendry has up his sleeve this week. He has to add Howry and now Mabry to the 40-man. Who's getting kicked off? Is there a trade coming this week? I'm interested in seeing how this week plays out.

    He also mentioned that the first team to add the 5th year probably gets him. I say do it, he is still young. I disagree. Furcal is a 2nd tier SS and I'd rather not have him much longer once Hendry and Dusty are sent packing. :twisted: I could deal with 4/38M, but that's probably not an offer he accepts. Would you list the "top tier" SS in the NL then please! Also, list there availablity via free agency or trade! Thanks! AL/NL or availability don't matter when talking about who is top tier and who is second tier. Furcal is clearly 2nd tier. The list has been given before. But guys like Tejada, ARod, Jeter and a couple others are better than Furcal. Just because the others aren't available doesn't mean it suddenly justifies listing Furcal in the first group. That would be like calling Konerko a top tier 1st baseman simply because Pujos, Lee and the big boys aren't available. but Konerko is going to get 1st tier money because he's the only decent 1st baseman FA this year. There's no market for 1b just like there isn't a good market for free agent SS this year. Hendry feels we need a SS so he's going to have to overpay to get one. I don't agree with Hendry's thinking. I'd rather have Cedeno playing SS with a big bat in RF, but I don't run the team. But if Hendry wants a SS he's going to have to overpay to get one because of how the market is.

    But you're not so you cant :P Do you seriously want a mod spot? I don't know. The ones we have now do a pretty good job. Dont think they even need new mods. This board gets out of control rarely... and seems to me they have enough mods.. You've only been here since Jan.? Seems a lot longer. They really only need Modzilla. The rest are futile. :wink:
