  3. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/deluca/72254,CST-SPT-deluca26.article After reading that article, it sounds like Pierre is dead set on testing free agency, which I think is a good thing for us. It makes it much less likely that he'll be back next year. Here's another quote from the Suntimes article:
  4. Dusty thinks he's Tony LaRussa again. He's used 4 pitchers in the 7th inning already.
  5. The Cubs have already put up a 4 spot in the 1st inning. The Reds have 2 errors in the inning so far.
  6. Seeing as this is baseball, the Cubs could easily get just as good a pick where they're at now as opposed to being in last place. I'd like to see him get smashed because I don't want to see Hendry sign him to a long-term deal in the offseason based on a couple of good starts at the end of the season. Nobody wants a long term deal for him at this point. My issues with Hendry aside, I'm hoping he's learned from his mistakes with Neifi, Rusch and Dempster and wouldn't sign him to more than a single year deal with incentives on the cheap. The pitching FA market is pretty slim this year and if Miller can get back to what he was or even just close to that he helps solve some problems as a go-to #4 or even #3. I understand the concern but at the same time I find it inane and incredibly shortsighted for people to root for the failure of someone who could potentially help this team out in a big way next year ideally for not a huge sum of money. We're not talking Neifi or Rusch flash in the pans here here...Miller has shown in the past he can be a legitmately good starter. Obviously, I don't want him coming back to be at the sacrifice of picking up another quality starter out the FA market, but I want him to succeed for this club for the right price. Yes, but Miller is a guy coming off major shoulder surgery with a somewhat violent delivery (good chance for more injury), who's only throwing in the high 80's at this point. He might gain a couple mph on his fastball as his shoulder gets stronger, but there's no way to know for sure. Add in the fact that Hendry seems to just throw long-term deals at people for some reason, and I see a big concern here. I wouldn't mind seeing Hendry giving Miller a 1-year, low base, high incentive deal, but I really do worry that he'll try to sign Miller to a 2-3 year deal, and I just don't think that's a good idea.

  8. Haha. It's funny watching this thread go. I'm stuck having to watch the Lions and Packers, so I have no idea what's going on in the Bear's game, but it's absolutely hilarious watching the change in emotions going on here.
  9. Reds finish the comeback, winning the game on a Royce Clayton single with the bases loaded.
  10. Gotta love the 55 foot slider.
  11. Wow. How did MSU lose this game? I stopped watching in the 4th quarter because I thought the game was over. Only MSU could choke away a 16 point lead in the 4th quarter. John L. Smith should be coaching some pee-wee league team somewhere, not a Big Ten football team.
  12. Yeah - just generalize the whole team by dumb actions by a guy who strictly plays special teams. Not trying to generalize. Just an extremely dirty play by that Badger player.
  13. I stopped watching. what are you actually saying? what happened? One of the Badger players bent Breaston's leg back after the play was over on a punt return. Extremely dirty play that the announcers pointed out after a commercial.
  14. Glad to see Wisconsin has given up trying to win the game, instead trying to break people's legs for no apparent reason.
  15. Mario Manningham for Michigan is an absolute stud.
  16. Let's hope Carroll is right. Losing Aramis would pretty much mean the team would have to be blown up and Hendry would have to start all over again (not that he doesn't pretty much have to do that now).
  17. Scott Moore has to earn his playing time. He's a rookie. We're in a pennant race.
  18. It drives me nuts that the Cubs didn't shut Z down for the season. Do the Cubs ever make the right decision? :x
  19. One only needs to look at my signature for updated standings. :D Some of us don't like looking at signatures so we have them turned off. :D
  20. Whoever came up with the prevent defense should be shot. Also, good to see my Michigan team doing well. :D
  21. Updated Standings going into today's action: KC 57-91 TB 57-90 (.5 game back) Cubs 59-89 (2 games back) Pirates 61-87 (4 games back)
  22. Blanco playing 1st base? I might have to watch just to see that. Gotta love the bottom of that lineup too with Blanco, Cedeno, and Soto. I guess Dusty has completely fallen off his rocker.
  23. I feel confident that Wade Miller will do his part to keep us in the race for the #1 pick in the 2007 draft. Go Wade!!!
  24. Absolutely stupid if he pitches sometime this year, and management should be fired immediately if they are thinking about letting him. Of course, this is the Cubs, so we know he will pitch again this year and that management is all for it.
