  1. Hopefully half-way decent Gallagher shows up, which *SHOULD* be enough to shut down their offense so that Lincecum could take a no-no into the 7th and the Cubs would still be in the game.
  2. http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/46/465242m.jpg Sean Gallagher (3-3, 4.36 ERA, 47/20 K/BB) is coming off a rough outing against the White Sox, in which he threw 121 pitches in only six innings, allowing five runs. Lou Piniella, in line with his recent showings of "tough love" to his players, responded after the game by forcing Gallagher to shove a fork into a light socket. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v483/cubbybear314/O2WTimLincecum.jpg Tim Lince%#& (9-1, 2.38 ERA, 114/43 K/BB, age 11) takes the mound for the Giants tonight. He's pretty good. The Royals roughed him up recently, but in his last start, he allowed no runs on 5 hits while striking out 11 against Oakland. He started against the Cubs in SF last year, and carried a shutout (1- or 2-hit, I believe) into the ninth, but his anemic offense only offered one 1 run of support against the always-deadly Jason Marquis, allowing the Cubs to finally break through in the ninth and win. If he must come out dealing tonight, here's hoping for a repeat absence of run support. A win tonight upgrades them back to Cubs.
  3. Waking up about 3 hours after this one ends. Here's hoping I wake up to good news. Good night everyone. Go Cobs.
  4. you are correct. I didn't realize until just a minute ago that the Giants have never lost a game that Lincecum appeared in Let's just not remind anyone of his start last year against Marquis :-$
  5. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v483/cubbybear314/dempstercopy.jpg Ryan Dempster (9-3, 3.16 ERA) just got smoked by the Sox, plus last night's game pretty much sucked, so he's pretty pissed. When asked if he planned on doing anything differently this game, Dempster replied, "I think I'm going to take the mound with the same approach and be aggressive and just throw strikes, but my gameday ritual is probably going to have to change. I'm going to start eating babies if we don't start winning on the road soon." http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v483/cubbybear314/Correiatutucopy.jpg Kevin Correia (1-5, 4.79 ERA) has spent six weeks on DL, and this is his fourth start back. Also, he wears a pink tutu when he pitches. "Yeah, the guys can be pretty mean about it," he says, "but since coming back [from the DL with a strained left side muscle], it has proven to be good luck. Plus, the draft is nice." It goes down tonight. Please don't suck, Cobs.
  6. Not a bad idea. I'll take never losing another game at home in a close second.
  7. Haven't been in this thread yet today. Did I miss anything?? :(
  8. I'm a couple innings late for this, but did you guys have the same WTF moment I did when they sent Lilly on a 3-2 pitch to Patterson, of all people? I guess Cedeno might be a worse choice for hitters in that situation, and Blanco or Ward might be a worse choice for runners, but that's close to as bad of a combination as it gets. If Lou gets the chance to manage us out of the game tonight, he will likely take it.
  9. The commentators on the O's feed just talked about how Brian Roberts was in attendance at Wrigley for game 6. Every player the Cubs would have traded for him would have become HOFers, and his career would have been over by the end of April in a freak infield collision in which he would have taken DLee and Z out with him and ended their careers too. At least, this seems to be the most likely scenario. Good non-move, Jim.
  10. Still on the CSN baltimore feed out here. They just interviewed MacPhail and touted him for rebuilding the franchise before leaving Chicago.
  11. I'll take the absence of fury as my answer. Cable out here is about as craptastic as I've seen anywhere.
  12. Did WGN crap out for anyone else or is it just the wonderful locale? I had to switch over to CSN Baltimore for the last AB and a half and WGN still isn't back.
  13. I'll be there with Mark. Hopefully if we meet, I won't 'embarrass' you with my pessimism ;) J/K Nothing embarrassing ever happens when Mark is around.
  14. Good work with the video, and good song choice. Also not a big matchbox fan, but it definitely worked. Thanks for putting that together.
  15. That's what I hate about this team. Even when they're leading at the end of the game, they find ways to lose :x
  16. Lou on the White Sox: Not sayin anything. Just sayin.
  17. Now if only we could get Soto hitting in front of Edmonds... One of the things I heard Lou talking about (could have been during the in-game interview, but not sure) was that he likes having a lefty hitting 5th behind Ramirez. Fuku batting second means Edmonds will remain fifth.
  18. I don't know if I've ever seen anyone smiling while running the bases with a live ball on the field. Awesome.
  19. I don't know why, but this pic is the purest form of awesome.
  20. Balfour got the win tonight. He must have been awesome.
  21. Sorry for the late reply, but it beats following the game. Where's the "no, its completely impractical and would slow down an already reputably slow game" option? With each team getting 162 games per season, and each team getting a guaranteed 27 outs per game (as opposed to fighting the clock and the other team), baseball is formatted for the best team to come out ahead at the end of the season. Sure, the Cubs would have lost that game in Philly and gotten swept if DeRo's HR was correctly called foul, and sure you could make the argument that if the Cubs made the playoffs because of that one game, then replay would have made a major impact on the season. But how many more times already this season has Lou managed the team out of games (even with the best record) by pointlessly hitting and running or stealing third or double switching people out of the game who really should have stayed in and played. Between this, meltdowns of otherwise reliable pitchers, bottom-of-the-order rallies killed by the middle hitters, etc etc, baseball is unique in that WAY WAY more games are decided on the field by the play of the game than by the off chance that a missed fair-or-foul HR call would decide the outcome. I think arguing for "the human element" is [expletive], but I just can't see all the time and effort going into replay making a notable or worthwhile impact on the game.
  22. Cards already have the Royals locked away and this game is way out of reach. If the Cubs are going to make a run this season to take back first place, this was supposed to be the time to do it - opportunities for what's left of this season look pretty slim. Next year, boys. Next year.
  23. He has given up more runs in Tampa in this one season than Dempster has in the last three seasons combined. Advantage Cubs. 14-1.
