  1. I can agree with you on that.
  2. 100 losses. I was about to say a few less losses, like 91, but that would take a .500 record the rest of the way, and I don't see that happening. That is hilarious, they have to play above .500 just to avoid 90 losses. A couple games under and they flirt with 95 losses. How can Hendry possibly think this is acceptable? Make a prediction!! Don't critisize my prediction if it doesn't agree with yours. What's wrong with you people? Wishing for 100 loses for...what again? What purpose? You wanna see people lose their jobs, I want the Cubs just to win baseball games.
  3. 81-81 overall at the end. I see a good second half.
  4. You didn't hear complaints about Dusty in '03?? Wow. A little something about overusing pitchers maybe? Actually it followed him from the Giants. Dusty has his faults like all managers do, see Grady Little. But the decline in talent and the players not producing on the field isn't all his fault and will not imporve once Dusty is canned. Geez people act like he's trying to lose games and hurt people for crips sake.To what end?
  5. Irregardless I'm happy the Cubs won and looked pretty good doing it. I cannot and will not accept hoping the Cubs lose so someone can lose their job. I have yet to hear of a viable replacement that will do anything with the team on the field. The first thing is get the horses to do the basic job on the field. Dusty Baker fills out the line-up card and makes double swtiches and chews tooth picks, but since when has that cost the game? Yes you can argue the Neifi batting second until your fingers bleed, but who cares if we had a better option Neifi wouldn't see but a few inning here and there. I'm for the Cubs winning not Dusty's and Hendry's team losing. I didn't hear this crap in 2003 when Hendry and Dusty could do no wrong!! Instant gradification doesn't work in baseball. Firing Dusty doesn't solve the problem on bit. Hoping the Cubs lose goes agaisnt everything I became a Cub fan for.
  6. This is such a bogus argument. First off, Lou P. as a manager would be the same as Dusty, so lets pretend he's not a candidate, because it would make me cry. Second, no one's saying that a manager is going to make Phil Nevin into Barry Bonds, that's just hyperbole. But a new manager can make smart decisions about lineups, in game strategy, bullpen usage, and who to actually put into the game. They can play the younger players in order to see what we have going into next season, and can stop making excuses for a horrible team. Sorry but this season is on Jim Hendry's shoulders. I give you last year might have been on Dusty's but this year Hendry relied on to few reliable players. You know the MO of Hendry and Dusty. Veterans Veterans and more veterans. At least for 2 more years. Sorry but that's reality.
  7. Buy him out try and resign him for the Pen. I like Kerry Wood super closer. Kerry Wood has heart and the drive to win. His a competitor and any team that take a chance on him beside the Cubs will be very pleased. It makes me sick this happened to him. But at least he gets to hang out with his gorgous wife Sarah!!!!! http://mlbplayers.mlb.com/images/2005/11/18/IQJ5ax5b.jpg
  8. Either one should fit very nicely, we need a solid pitcher that can give us some definite innings, after going thru this whole Wood/Prior thing these last 3 years, it really is getting old, especially when considering what we are paying these guys. With Carlos heading up the rotation, followed by either one of these 2 guys, Prior(fingers crossed) along with 2 guys from Marshall, Marmol, Hill, etc. One thing for certain, the Yankees are going to go long and hard after Zito, they need pitching desperately, so they are going to be offering a lot of years with a lot of money, almost a certain that they Cubs will not enter into those sweepstakes. Lastly, after Hendry refusing to part with Hill last season and during the offseason, you would at least think now that the season is in the tank, he would at least give him another shot this year. If Hill does not get another shot, it really shows just how badly he is at reviewing talent, because he could have packaged him last year and got some value out of him. Isn't this the GM's primary job? This organization never ceases to amzae me. BCB You are right. Hendry doesn't seem to have the killer instict when it comes to "liked or popular" players. Or players he thinks will develop. It's sad. I hate it when he doesn't make the deal due to gutting his farm system, but spends 3 young pitchers for JP. I don't get it.
  9. This is the type of thinking that gets the Cubune in trouble all the time, and has put us in the position we are in today. Make no mistake about it, getting him or Zito will mean we are most likely going to overpay for either one, so in that terms, we will probably not sign either of them. But neither of them wil come cheap, but with Kerry most likely coming off the books, along with Mad dog, the money will be there, but I am sure Jim has a few mediocre guys in mind that he hopes will be able to catch lighting in the bottle for next year. BCB Agreed, but whom do you suggest? I like what the rookie pitchers have shown thus far, but the Cubs need a couple of veterans to anchor the team.
  10. That's just one game though we get that every game!! The piles and piles of hair I've pulled out that collects next to my chair watching the Cubs is horriffic. Tumble weed size!
  11. Ouch dude. I'm just showing a little projection and optimisum. What else do you what? If Dusty Baker gets fired you still have a crap team right? I mean it's not like Phil freaking Nevin turns into Barry Bond because Lou P. is the manager? Or suddenly Am Ram hustles! Personnel change first. Not the coaching. The players are the ones sucking now. Dusty just ...well... is chewing tooth picks I guess. Get some type of playersthat have OBP, cut out the dead wood and move forward.
  12. BTW the Cubs have won 2 out of 3 since the Am Ram call out. The pitchers have given 3 quality starts and the offense and Am Ram was to blame for the only loss. I hope this does split the team up into the ptichers and offense in a game of oneupsmanship. That'll result in winning games. This team needed that type of thing to happen. Am Ram needs to step up his game now. Put up or shut up time for the Ram!!
  13. The Cubs have had 3 quality starts in the last three games and have won 2 of 3. After being called out by Am Ram the pitching staff called and meeting and Maddux spoke. He said Am Ram was right. The pitching has been an equal partner in the suckiness. So to shut Am Ram up the staff has thrown some gems. In a internal battle within the Cubs team, Pitchers vs. Offense, the pitchers have stepped it up while the offense can be squarly blamed for the lone lost game. Marmol goes 8 strong Cubs win 5-2. It's not about Dusty, Hendry or MacPhail it about the Cubs team. Always has.
  14. Brewers win 8-2. Zambrano only lasts five innings. Cubs 7-2. I win tee hee!!!!
  15. I think its quite funny too. I like the fact Cub fans want to believe in this thread but really don't want to either. Kind of like being a Cub fan all wrapped up in one thread. Yeah this team isn't the best I've seem in a while. I'm stunned how far the Cubs have fallen so fast. From being picked to go to the World series just 2 years ago to this crap season is mind blowing. This is why I believe they can turn it around just as fast. No team is as black and white as the Cubs from all good to terrible. The middle ground, or gray is the 0.500 level this year. Good game last night. 3 quality piching games in a row and the Cubs are 2 out of 3 with the one lose falling on the offense.
  16. That's because every Cub fan wants to believe it might turn around. Because even in the depth of suckiness we are at, the Cubs could regain some level of respect. So the level and bar is set at the 0.500 level. Not the playoffs or World Series.
  17. Weather? :sunny: Weather, whatever. Sunny if we win. KC won 11 out of 16. Another reason for hope. That's not a sign for hope. What good is 11/16 when you are still just 30-54? It's just a sign that any crap team can have short bursts of decent results, but they are still very likely to remain a crap team when all is said and done. I don't believe we have a crap team.
  18. Weather? :sunny: Weather, whatever. Sunny if we win. KC won 11 out of 16. Another reason for hope.
  19. These words, I do not think they mean what you think they mean. Viable: feasible; capable of being done. Yeah, it means exactly what I thought. Weather they will is another story.
  20. I like Garrett Anderson, Mark T. From Texas too. I'd take both. As for Barrett it was in jest for not knocking down AJP with the punch. They zinged Ozzie too.
  21. The Cubs pitching held them to 2 runs. The offense didn't get it done. What can I say. The four pillors of winning Pitching, defense, offense and dusty not over/under coaching. So the cubs lost but September 9th is viable still. They need to take the next 3 games. Which they will. No pitcher is hotter then Capacinno (what his name is). So the Cubs will go up against worse pitching which bodes well for the offense to score some runs. Look for D Lee and Am Ram, Todd Walker and MUrton to get it going. The pitching staff has thrown quality at least the last 2 games. It's the offense's turn to show up and help them tonight. Look for a good win tonight.
  22. If pigs had wings, they could fly. Ostriches have wings but they can't fly? Movie Quote: "I have nipples Greg. Can you milk me?" Cubs getting back to 0.500 is more realistic, slightly more.
  23. Rothchild is not one of Dusty's guys. He was carried over from Baylor. Or Kimm. Maddux laughs at him and his advice. Which is sad.
