  1. Do you guys think there is a team in the NL that is head and shoulders above anyone else? Seems like there is a bunch of teams, the Cubs included, that in that "good" category. Guys, you see, all teams are going to win 60 and lose 60. It's what you do in those other 42 games that makes all the difference. . . . . hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
  2. As much as some of us don't want to admit it (why, I have no idea), the Cubs have a very good team this year. The offense is there. As for pitching; I know we like to gripe and complain, but most teams are lucky to have 2 good starters. We have 3 good starters and a bunch of other guys who are able to eat innings. If we can get solid years out of Z, Lilly, and Hill then have the back of the rotation stay healthy and make their stars, we'll be fine. Even if the likes of Marquis is at the end of the rotation, he still manages to win as many as he loses. Granted, wins aren't the best evaluator of a pitcher, but I'll still take it from the butt-end of the rotation. Now that I've jinxed the team, we can all expect a year full of inuries and rookie pitchers (see 1985).
  3. He's there to win the world series, dude. and to eat chili. Oh, and he's got big ol' river to fish in.
  4. I never realized how bad that guy was / is. He's had 3 years (his MLB career began in '98) with a record above .500. A 3-2 year, a 1-0 year, and his 18-8 year. I was thinking he did better than 18-8 that year. Way to go spankees.
  5. Mark Prior played baseball the last couple of years? I could have sworn he got paid millions to sit in the tub.
  6. The Royals are getting better and are boosting the payroll. They aren't the Brewers, but it's not impossible to think they could do well over the course of 4-6 years (in the NLC).
  7. I'll pay someone for a DVD copy of this. . . . . .we Arkansans are a little out of the market area.
  8. It's times like these that I'm glad my favorite player was Ryne Sandberg.
  9. wash yourself, aren't you alone tonight? nope mom in law is sick kids driving me nuts
  10. i wanna play, too.
  11. Things are looking good for clemens. McNamee looks like a little smug punk. He looks defeated now. I guess all clemens can say is "I think he mis-remembered."
  12. Mike's Weenie. . . . .huhuhuhuhuh. That was cool.
  13. is this another one of those times where hendry is bidding against himself?
  14. remember, I live in bumfrick Arkansas. Cubs - 85 (in SL), 89 (W), 98 (in hou), 01 (W), 02 (ATL), 04 (SL), 05 (Wr), 06 (SL), 07 (Tex) Cardinals - 85, 01 (W), 04, 06 Pirates - 01 (W) Hou - 98 Atl - 02 Mon - 89 (W) Fla - 05 (W) White Sox - 89 (old comisky) A's - 89 (old comisky) Royals - 93 (KC) Mariners - 93 (KC) Blue Jays - 99 (Tx) Indians - 99 (Tx) Rangers - 99, 07
  15. watching the clip, I think that's Jody Davis wearing the blue blockers.
  16. Steve Trout used to wear those kind of glasses, but I'm not sure if he played on the '87 team. Is this the game against the Phillies? If so, the entire game is included in the Cubs DVD set. What sticks out to me is how rough the field looks. The grass looks half dead and the field in general looks very crappy. The Hawk never looked better :) That summer was not my first to know about the Cubs or even like them --- that began when I was 7 (summer of '84). However, the summer of '87 I was 10 years old. I had started playing little league. Dawson was incredible and I was convinced he was going to break Roger Maris' record. Don't get me wrong, Ryno was my favorite player, but Dawson had my attention that summer.
  17. Isn't everyone who lives south of the Mason-Dixon Line a Klan member anyway? I can only speak for myself and say I'm not. In all seriousness, there is still a KKK presence in the south. I hear lots and lots of rumors of it locally, but I've never seen tangible evidence. There are no umpires living near me, so I guess I will never know the real answer.
  18. I'm sure their neighbors are members of the Klan, too. Therefore, they won't rat the umps out.
  19. what pitcher led the leauge in wild pitches with no one on base last year?
  20. Yeah, at least 300-400 more. Big Red Machine.
  21. That's certainly a good shot, but my favorite is the one right before it that has Banks, Robinson, Aaron, and Mays. That must be the most total home runs between the participants of any single baseball photo. 512+586+660+755 = 2513 total home runs! When you consider the Big Red Machine and the time and era that was going on and such, that picture of Joe Morgan (alone) had more homer runs than those guys. Not that they are bad players. Who was that skinny white dude in the Cub uniform?
  22. I'm taking Ryne to wrigley this year. He's been requesting the trip, so now is as good a year as any. By the way, he'll be 5 this summer. I'm thinking of 3 different weekends --- The weekend before the AS break (vs the Giants), the Weekend after the AS break (Vs the Marlins) or the first weekend of August (vs the Pirates). I feel like since it's a weekend, Chicago will be busy as heck. Regardless, I still want to hit a couple museums and the sears tower. Also, weekend game tix will be tough regardless of opponent, right?
  23. neifi???
  24. What's the address for the site that gives runs scored projections based on different lineups (ex: how many more runs will the cubs score if Soriano hits 5th, produces as normal, etc).
