  1. Craig Counsell has never won anything in Baseball? Only two World Series titles as a player and guiding his club to three division titles and three 2nd place finishes as a manager. That exec tells us they have no idea without telling us…
  2. Sorry, was just thinking out loud. Nothing to do with this board specifically.
  3. Same here. Upgrading is never a bad thing. Ross made mistakes and Counsell will make mistakes. That’s the human element of sport. But it’s an upgrade, so I like that part of it.
  4. I don’t find it surprising that there are Cubs fans who are pro-Ross and would be upset by this. This is a guy who hit a franchise changing home run in Game 7 and went on to win the World Series in large part because of that home run. If that never happened, this sacking would just be seen as just a former player getting sacked. Instead of the sacking of a Chicago Cubs hero.
  5. The day MLB managers start valuing themselves at a quarter of a billion dollars on the open market is the same day that MLB clubs start hiring people from this forum to manage the team. 😛
  6. Hopefully this is that offseason. :)
  7. Cubs FO do owe us another Lackey/Zobrist/um…Heyward/Fowler offseason.
  8. Can you imagine the meltdowns if Amy announcers she won’t be attending any more games?
  9. Spending sensibly should be the name of the game in any offseason. We just witnessed an 84 win team make the World Series, so it’s foolish to just blow a bunch of cash on just anyone because the money is there to be spent.
  10. Cubs went out and got the best available, that will never be a bad thing. It’s only money at the end of the day.
  11. I am guessing there were no dick bumps between David Ross and Jed Hoyer on the way out the door.
  12. Here is to hoping that signing Craig Counsell is the first of many W’s this offseason. What a damn start.
  13. How Spurs have kept it 1-1 after 70 minutes is beyond me. Vicario has been amazing. Love seeing Tottenham doing well especially because Ange is an Australian.
  14. Holy horsefeathers? What has just happened? That is some managerial signing.
  15. Yeah, horsefeathers those guys. 5 years ago I was genuinely worried about how good their future was looking and it’s amounted to nothing. But I still can’t laugh at them more than I can the Mets. Here is a club that spends hundreds of millions of dollars to improve a 101 win squad and promptly wins 75 games. You couldn’t write a better script. 😂
  16. Hell yes to Ohtani. Put him to the lineup and he is one of, if not, the best hitters in the lineup. Add him to the rotation from 2025 and he is your instant ace. Some players will never be overpriced and he is one of them. If Stroman opting out increases the chances of getting Ohtani, then the FO would be foolish not to at least try.
  17. Wouldn’t say no for a couple of years.
  18. 😂

6 losing seasons in the last 7 years, including 102 and 92 the last two seasons. All it took was for Texas to drag Bruce Bochy out of retirement.
  20. The link in my post opens The Athletic paywall for that article. https://archive.md/a3mtT The next link is the website that bypasses the paywall, I have yet to find a paywalled article that it doesn’t work for. Copy any paywalled articles URL, paste where it says “My url is alive and I want to archive its content” and hit save. Most articles open up instantaneous and others can take 2-3 minutes. Good website for anyone to bookmark. https://archive.md
  21. Yep. If a rabble like Arizona can make a World Series, you would think Soto and Alonso would make a big difference to the Cubs prospects
  22. Hit the NLCS Game 1 home run to win it and scored the winning run in Game 7 of the World Series. If those were his only two hits in a Cubs uniform over 3 years, he would still be viewed as a success. He did alright for himself.
  23. 😂 Australia pulled out yesterday. We will never host a World Cup at this rate.
  24. That’s where I am at as well. Soto isn’t the missing piece of a championship calibre roster, so there is no reason to trade away a fine young player with years of control left unless there is an extension for Soto. Chances of Soto not making it to free agency would have to be low.
  25. The grumpier, the better.
