  1. Shohei might have an idea of how long he wants to play for but we are still talking about a human being here. He might still be enjoying playing until his late 30s/early 40s or doing as much prep as he does being a two way player is just too exhausting and he wants to finish in 6-8 years from now to spend time with his family. He might go with a wait and see approach, sign for 12 years for the security and then retire after 8 years.
  2. A team is basically buying two positions (have to wait for 2025 for one of them), but maybe the offer won’t necessarily be over $500 million. Shohei could be a surprise and prefer team fit, not biggest offer. Hopefully something will happen over the next 10 days.
  3. My experience is that if you need to ask yourself “Who knows if he actually has this info”, the person typically has no info and is a random who has appeared out of nowhere. I will say, however, that any team that is going to make Shohei Ohtani an offer will need to offer north of $500 million. That is just logic.
  4. Maybe I am misremembering what I read 2-3 weeks ago but apparently the Mets are not going to spend a lot of money this winter after they spent half the leagues budget last winter. Although it would be crazy seeing a free spending owner not going after someone like Ohtani the only time he will probably be available (sans opt outs).
  5. No, that wouldn’t be real.
  6. Of course I wouldn’t be disappointed with any of those options. I just didn’t name everyone I would love to sign/trade for this winter.
  7. I just hope at the end of the offseason the Cubs FO aren’t patting themselves on the back that they “put the pressure on” in the Ohtani/Yamamoto/Soto trade market etc sweepstakes and end up with a bunch of Plan D signings. Now that would be disappointing.
  8. I am struggling to get passed the misspelling of Sawamura. 🤦
  9. Brazil’s first ever home World Cup qualification defeat. Nuts.
  10. Yes. Drinking buddies.
  11. This has Yankees written all over it.
  12. Yep. I think it’s way overblown that Ohtani will “reportedly” hold it against club if they go public with their interest. Or hold it against any city that puts up a large ad for him for his potential arrival. Shohei is not going to stay away from his first choice club just because his second choice club kept things more hush-hush.
  13. It’s safe to say it all went downhill for Gibraltar when they went down to 10 men.
  14. I hope Mike Trout is available because one of the greatest players in the history of this sport shouldn’t be playing out his career at such a basket case. But as the above posters have said, I don’t know if I go near him with that injury history. It will only get worse as he ages.
  15. You’re correct. All 30 clubs would love to have Shohei but those contract terms ($500M+) most likely rules out about half the league.
  16. That’s surprising. If I remember correctly, Seattle only just fell short of signing Shohei.
  17. Any good Internet hackers around? My thinking is that if we can hack 29 clubs socials to announce they are after Ohtani, he’s as good as ours.
  18. How to confirm you’re an horsefeathers in only one sentence.
  19. Carlyle Group? From “We are buying Manchester United fame.” lol. Take this with a mountain of salt until it’s official.
  20. Just got through the press conference. You can really see the club is in a good place and have pulled the trigger on hiring one of best managers in the business at the right time. Well spoken with a good Baseball brain. Such exciting times ahead.
  21. Hopefully the Cubs are playing on the first night and the last night of the MLB season. :D
  22. I had to go back to make sure, the comparison to ARod (and Manny Machedo) was from a physical standpoint. If that was the comparison, then it makes more sense. This Sports Illustrated article from a few days ago claims Ross is on the Padres shortlist https://www.si.com/fannation/mlb/fastball/news/san-diego-padres-considering-now-former-chicago-cubs-manager-david-ross-for-the-same-position
  23. I would take Package 1. You’re basically getting your ace for 2025 and beyond (Ohtani), a highly sort after pitcher in Imanaga, Ohtani’s top tier bat for 10+ years and Alonso for a year. Package 2 is very good as well but I just feel like Ohtani/Imanaga beats out Yamamoto and Ohtani cancels out Soto. Candelario or Turner is definitely not enough to change my mind.
  24. When the Cubs have the type of money they have this offseason and are apparently going to spend big, going all in on the best player on the market is so logical that anyone on earth could have made the call that the Cubs will go all in on Ohtani.
