  1. I dont expect Hoyer to do literally nothing, but virtually nothing on the other hand... My one hope, if Hoyer indeed returns as a lame duck PoBO, is that he looks at his final year under contract and puts his foot on the gas pedal and does something incredible, way beyond his MO of striving for mediocrity and batted ball luck being the ultimate deciding factor.
  2. I was more just mocking the list which only included 50% of teams that would be in the playoffs if it started today and one of those teams benefiting heavily from having the White Sox in their division. The Royals are +2.5 games in the WC race with a 12-1 record against a historically bad team. Even a merely bad White Sox team knocks the Royals out of the playoffs. For the most part I expect the Cubs to have mainly the same lineup. Mostly because I don't expect them to make a play for Soto in FA, or trade for Tucker, or trade for Vlad, or trade Hoerner. Just about the only question for this lineup going into 2025 is whether or not Bellinger opts out. If Bellinger doesn't opt out then the lineup is mostly set in stone besides catcher. Bellinger would be the everyday RFer and Suzuki would become the everyday DH.

  4. That's not an argument for Caissie getting PA's. Tauchman hasn't played much because he's a 5th outfielder and PCA has turned into that guy. If Bellinger does not opt out, trade either Bellinger or Caissie.
  5. If Tauchman stays in his current role, when is Caissie ever going to play? He'll be the outfield version of Patrick Wisdom.
  6. Ketel Marte has played 5 full seasons for the Dbacks. In 3 of those seasons he's had a 140+ wRC+. Time to give him a little respect. The bullpen needed an upgrade over historically worst in history. I refuse to believe the difference between the offense and a playoff caliber team is a couple rookies coming off the bench.
  7. Who is to say that Shaw or Caissie will be any better? You can probably make a solid case for Shaw being an upgrade, given the alternatives are rock bottom. But are we convinced that Caissie will be an upgrade over Tauchman?
  8. The difference between the best team on offense is greater than the difference between the best team in pitching. The Cubs are virtually a top 11 team in pitching with 11-17 being separated by less than 1 fWAR.
  9. Offense and it's not even close, imo. Pitching wise the Cubs are looking at back of the rotation fillers which are a dime a dozen and a couple bullpen arms. On offense the team needs the equivalent of an ace pitcher.
  10. What's in it for the Mariners to trade any of those guys? Their OF is pretty set. They dont need Ballesteros. The only guy(s) I can imagine them being interested in are Shaw and Nico. Neither one is getting you one of the players you are talking about, let alone both.
  11. Wouldn't mind send Alcantara to the Marlins for a Cabrera + Nardi package.
  12. They dont lose any control over Caissie by starting his clock this late in the season.
  13. Blasphemy! They should know that the sacred ground of Wrigley field does not follow the trends of inflation!
  14. It's not close at all. That's why no player is trying to claim it was fan interference. The ball is like 4 feet over the wall when it is caught by a fan standing straight up, not leaned over the wall. PCA is no where near catching it, either.
  15. Pretty simple why that is not fan interference. The ball is not in the field of play when it is touched. PCA is going into the stands to try and make a play on it. There is no fan interference in those situations. Fan interference is called when a fall reaches into the field of play.
  16. David Ross was also definitely going to be the manager for 2024.
  17. Cubs are just making sure to look as bad as possible in front of Soto. Playing the role of bug repellent. You dont want to come here.
  18. So, in other words, you dont prefer deep dish.
  19. Lets be honest, no one prefers deep dish.
  20. I'm of the opinion that Bellinger wont opt out. I dont see him getting anything more that what he has now, that being a short term deal with yearly opt outs, but he wont match the AAV in that new deal. I will say, with the emergence of PCA lately, if Bellinger is looking to prove it next year then it might be best for him to opt out and take less money for a year. His playing time in the field isn't likely to increase on the Cubs, assuming of course that the Cubs are serious about improving the team in the off season and arent just going to find a catcher and a couple pitchers and go with the same lineup with Suzuki at DH.
  21. I would be extremely surprised if Bellinger opts out. He's going to end the year <2 fWAR. He's less than an average starter this year. He wont get that 5 year contract he's been looking for, especially after he didn't get it last season. He'd be fighting for another deal with opt outs, which he already has and the new offers are highly unlikely to match what the Cubs are already committed to.
  22. Not really a hot take. I dont expect the Cubs to sign a pitcher to a lengthy deal. I'm expecting a pillow contract to someone like Walker Buehler. Other than that, if they really pursue catcher, then I can see something like Hoerner going to the Mariners in a package to get Woo + Ford.
  23. Even if the Paredes experiment does not work out in Chicago, what are we crying about? We got him for Christopher Morel, Bigge, and Ty Johnson. It's very possible that Bigge will be the best player acquired by the Rays in the trade. What is there to complain about? Ya it would suck if Paredes doesn't translate to Wrigley, but... who cares? The Cubs took a shot on a player that has previously been worth 3-4x on the field than what they gave up. He's just as young, and nearly as controlled. There's nothing to not like about the deal other than maybe it didn't work out, but that is still to be determined.
