  1. Wining last night actually makes me even more angry about the game they gave away. They could have been 2 games from .500 and 2 games closer to the Cardinals had they not given that one away. I know it is unlikely they finish by playing .600 ball or better, but not impossible. And I hate that blowing that game might end up costing them in the end. Not only did it drop them 2 more in back of the Cardinals than they should be, it gives the Cardinals the tie breaker. I do think they will finish strong and probably end up with 81-83 wins. But they need 86-87. And that isn’t happening. Pissing away a sure win on Saturday is why it won’t happen. IMO they will pass the Pirates, Giants, Cardinals and probably the Dbacks. But they aren’t passing the Padres, Mets and Braves. Too little, too late.
  2. Correction. He steals 65 bases (at least)if he gets on base.
  3. Exactly. He is an elite outfielder who messed up. Doesn’t suddenly mean he isn’t a good centerfielder. As you said, he made a mistake. He will be fine and is a great defender.
  4. Exactly. Not even close to the same thing. Had Arenado come up and homered that is different. He hit a weak ass pop up and the Cubs missed it. Cardinals didn’t do anything to win the game. Cubs lost the game. There is a difference.
  5. Neris didn’t give up a homer. He did give up a run. Did you watch the game or just taking this opportunity to just vent?
  6. Except in neither case did throwing the ball come into play. The first one there was no one in base and no outs. They last one was two outs. If the infielder is under the ball he should take it. I am not sure what happened in either ball or who was at fault, but I know who would be in a better position to throw the ball was not a consideration.
  7. 8 more. All they need to get back in it is an 11 game winnings streak. They are at 3. Look out, here they come.
  8. Umpire is responsible for all 3 cardinal runs. He has missed a crazy amount of pitches today.
  9. Hot take, I know. But Betencourt is a terrible pitch framer. There has been several pitches he has caught poorly and cost the Cubs a strike.
  10. And he most likely will open next year at AAA. I highly doubt he is on the major league roster to start next year. He will undoubtedly see AAA.
  11. He’s coming up? Where did you see that?
  12. Which is exactly why I don’t understand how anyone would want to trade him so they can sign Tyler O’Neil. No idea why some people do not realize how good an offensive player Suzuki is. Just add one bat and a league average catcher to this team and they have a good offense. If Bellinger stays you have 10 guys for 9 positions. Which is fine. If that big bat is Soto they would have a top 5-7 offense. If it is Teoscar or Alonso it would still be very good. They can also add via trade. Guerrero, Tucker or Robert. They have enough minor league resources.
  13. But he isn’t a better or a similar bat. He strikes out way more often but has more power. In the end his career ops+ is lower than Suzuki’s. Suzuki is a 125 guy while O’Neil is closer to 115. He has a much lower floor than Suzuki, which can be seen by looking at his yearly numbers. I don’t dislike O’Neil, I just don’t view him better than Suzuki. I also would not deal PCA.
  14. Who is the Suzuki upgrade? O’Neil? I don’t see him as an upgrade. And he will cost as much. Why not just add Soto? And if that means PCA doesn’t have a spot then trade him for a high end pitcher. I still believe PCA will be very good. I wouldn’t deal him. To me he would be on the team and the Cubs would have basically 10 starters. But if the Cubs don’t think so they can move him for a pitcher. I just think trading Suzuki is a terrible idea. I am not sure why people do not value his bat. He is a very solid hitter. Best on the team.
  15. Favorite all time is Ron Santo Favorite Cubs now???? I don’t have one.
  16. I disagree. But if he is hitting like he is this year, he probably won’t get many AB. But if he can hit at league average he will see plenty of AB. I think you are assuming he won’t ever hit because he hasn’t done much in the majors. Basically giving up on him. I haven’t. If he is league average he will get in a lot of games. Basically if any of the regulars takes a day off he can play. With Bellinger able to play 1st, Busch able to play 2nd and maybe even 3rd, Hoerner able to play 2nd or SS, if anyone is out PCA can go in and other guys can move around. On top of that there are injuries. Even adding one big bat I can see PCA still getting 350-400AB next year. And if he is good, even more.
  17. I’m not sure about that. Does he get something like 4/$90M He might leave for that. But I am not sure he gets that, tbh. Might be more like 4/$77-$80. And I think if that’s what what he thinks he will get, he won’t leave.
  18. I, for one, am not removing him. There is enough games and innings for 10 players to fill 9 spots. PCA would get his chances. If they got one of Soto, O’Neil, Hernandez or Alonso and Bellinger did not opt out, there would still be a place for PCA to get enough playing time, even if no one got hurt all year.(and we know that isn’t happening) Between days off, defensive replacement, pinch running and playing due to an injury he would still be very useful.
  19. Teoscar Hernandez is another option if not O’Neil. But if they did that I would hope they would spend big on a front line starting pitcher. Bring in Burnes. They have the money. That said, I still want Soto. They can do it. They have the money. With Soto they won’t be able to have Burnes. I am fine with that. One other option is Alonso. Depending on what he cost and how long they would have to sign him for, he could work too.
  20. He can’t. They have to get a big bat and a league average catcher. Not really that hard to do with the money they can spend and/or with the prospects they can trade. The issue is….WILL THEY DO IT???? They are far from a disaster and, as I said, if the FO decides to be aggressive, they can absolutely be a very good team next year. Besides those additions to offense they can add another pitcher. Not sure if they would go pen or rotation. But IMO that is all they need to be a very good team. This is put up or shut up time for Hoyer, IMO. That is why I am hoping he puts up.
  21. Very true. But as a reliever it appears he has a couple of + pitches with good control. That can be a very good pen arm. Maybe not closer, but maybe a high leverage 7th or 8th inning guy. (Kind of like Lieter has been) And he is much younger with much more team control.
  22. Honestly the trade deadline was not a big deal for the Cubs. Jed got what he wanted. A pen arm for next year and a young 3rd baseman for 3 more years. I would have liked to see Bellinger traded but other than that I couldn’t care less that no one else was dealt.
  23. Disagree on Taillon. I would be ok if they moved him provided they then signed someone as good or better. But I don’t have a problem with him at his salary. My issue with trading him is I don’t trust the Cubs to use that money to add more talent.
  24. I don’t hate Bellinger either. He is a fine player. But in order to open up a spot for an elite bat and to open up more payroll for that elite bat, they need to move Bellinger.
  25. If they can give Bellinger away I am all in on Soto. You do whatever is necessary to get him. Use some minor league talent to get solid young controlled starting pitcher and either make another trade for an average catcher or sign Jansen. They have enough wiggle room in the budget to do all of that, and enough your talent to get very solid starting pitcher. They can probably add a pen arm too, if need be.
