    At this point I really want Alonso AND Hoskins. We need freaking offense. it’s incredible we are the only team in the mlb to not add mlb talent so far. If I’m Counsell I’m seriously questioning the FO plan.

    What if Bellinger is the previous 3 years Belli and not 2023? Do we really know what Hoskins is? He’s basically Mancini Chapman is def first 3b … his ops the last 3 years together is pretty much what we got from 3b last year…. and then what are you trading for this TOR arm? I’m guessing Morel is going to be in there. PCA is probably going to need to be in there. Plus an arm or two. Which yes could get us a TOR arm and I’m fine with but now we need a bullpen….. I think your signings are more of 2023 cubs. Flashes of some great ball. Petering out towards the end bc we just don’t have the top talent.

    I don’t think any fan is saying sell out for one free agent. We want a team built to compete for a WS. At this very moment, I don’t see a combination of signings that can get us there. and great job Jed you hit on Bellinger last year. How did Hosmer and Mancini and Barnhart and Rios and Fulmer and Boxberger and Tallion pan out?!? the negative War of that group reduces Belli to replacement level at best! im sorry but Barton bin shopping doesn’t win you a WS. It cost us a playoff birth last year. My bet is it’ll do the same this next year. patience shouldn’t be needed when you have a FO that is actively trying to acquire talent. Our patience is thin bc we aren’t doing that. End of story.

    Welp… anothe 75-85 win season barely in or out of playoffs at best. seriously the only way this changes is getting rid of this FO. So over it.

    The 68mill per year is irrelevant. The deferred money is prorated into the $46mill for the first 10 years and then the tax hit is over. Done . Gone. Freeman and Betts both have this in their contract too just not as much. basically there’s a way to cheat the tax but the cubs are too cheap to do it.

    I mean from what I’m seeing I don’t think that’s going to happen at all anyway….. correct me if I’m wrong but he will cost 46mill against the cap the first 10 years. But only costing them 2mill in contract payments. Which honestly is probably about where we all thought he would end up. idk just thought I read that somewhere

    It’s too much money for a bad back and injuries. Didn’t we just go thru this with Rizzo! however you want to spin it Belli is going to be a volatile sign. He’s going to need to play CF, 1B and DH. Next year I sure hope he can play like he did this year and play CF most of the time but if he wants 6-8yrs then guess what? He’s not going to last in CF.

    That’s what the farm is for. Also I am only doing it if they can lock BB and Soto up long term. you then have 2-3 years to build the farm back up. International signings, draft and some minor trades. That’s a hell of a team.

    He only has 2 years of control left. I think you could get Bo, Soto and Alonso for very little farm hurt for the caliber of player you get back. plus you got some money to sign either jap SP

    I feel Hoskins is only coming up bc of Bellinger. what happened to Belli her this year is t the norm. We shouldn’t rely on that. More times than not they end up like Mancini or Hosmer….

    Imo too much for only 1 yr of Soto …. Now if Soto comes with an extension then I’d be ok with that. like imanaga think everything else is very underwhelming. WE CAN GO OVER THE TAX IN 2024 for the right pieces. Lots of room in future cap for Soto and Ohtani. Or Soto and YY and Alonso i don’t think we need to trade Morel. He should get shopped for a young arm or 3B. Otherwise keep him for utility

    Never once did I say trade Horton… HAYDEN WESNESKI if that’s who they would accept for Soto even for one year. I’d do it tomorrow
