    The ideal offseason is Soto. That's it. But that wont happen Since we wont get that, id consider this a good offseason. -Sign one of Fried, Eovaldi or Burnes -Sign a mid tier reclamation type pitcher (Buehler, Bieber would be the two guys id like to target) -invest in some stability in the bullpen. I like our collection of young arms and im optimistic about the bullpen next year but the Cubs cannot have that 1st half nonsense where they were consistently losing games that the bullpen blew. I get relievers are volatile but the bullpen desperately needs a good veteran. Robertson would be a good choice to bring back. Blake Treinen interests me, maybe Kirby Yates? I'm not saying go crazy but find a veteran presence we can count on. -Sign or trade for a catcher and find the elite bat the lineup needs to elevate it to the next level. I love the idea of trading for Langerlis and Rooker. Kyle Tucker and Guerrero Jr. also come to mind as others have mentioned. Most of us are basically all in the same mindset here, it seems like.

    It absolutely is true. When was the last time you have called a pitching injury? You haven't. They are completely random. Look at the amount of aces that went down this year. It's pick and choose on whose going to stay healthy. I will concede that yes, pulling guys in meaningless scenarios is probably the right call but this wasnt meaningless. It's a no hitter, that's a once in a lifetime thing for most pitchers. You don't pull a guy during that. Those aren't wasteful pitches. Maybe you don't value big moments like no hitters the same way like I do and that's fine, im not hating. But there was no reason to pull him there.

    Stuff wise, Horton is absolutely better. But man Birdsell just looks so good. His windup is unique, and his pitch mix is solid.

    Ok. I will agree with you on meaningless stress. In my opinion though this isn't meaningless stress. This was a possible once in a lifetime opportunity for Shota. That is not meaningless in my opinion. Now if he give up a hit, absolutely pull him. But not in a no hitter.

    They are completely unpredictable. You cant argue that. There is no reason to protect a pitcher. An arm only has so many bullets before it falls off and you use it as much as you can until it falls off then dump the guy and next man up. There is no such thing as a pitching prospect and there is no such thing as a long term pitcher outside of the rare outlier.

    Jesus, really? thats kind of nuts Also, Birdsell is officially above Horton for me now, and I'm a big Horton fan. Birdsell is closer to contributing imo.

    I 100% disagree. Shota will inevitably get hurt. I dont know if its next year or the year after but you cant predict pitching injuries. Protecting their arms doesnt do anything. Let the guy go for his once in a lifetime opportunity,

    It's correct logic. Pitchers are babied far too much now a days. Not a single one of these guys was overused this season and they still got hurt. That's his argument. Injuries will always happen to pitchers. The human arm isnt supposed to be able to throw 95 mph. It's why pitching depth is so important. Shota throwing an extra 25-30 pitches isnt going to hurt him as he will inevitably get hurt as is the nature of pitchers.

    It all because of this analytics horsefeathers. I'm not even an anti data guy. There is a lot of value to it. But its really testing my patience. Steele: 128 IP Brown: 55.1 IP Wicks: 33 IP Alzolay: 17.1 IP Little 26 IP Horton: 34.1 IP None of them pitched too much this year.

    Its so unique. I cant really recall any pitcher ive seen that has that sort of arm action

    He's solidly in the 10-15 range for me. We were probably too hyped up on originally while at the same time being too hard on him. To be honest, I never soured on him due to his age but a bunch of better prospects just passed him up due to being more advanced in their development.

    Why has Connor Noland not been getting more hype? I know he's not an overpowering arm or anything but he's had a great season

    I recall really liking the pick back when he was drafted but I honestly forgot about him until people started talking about him the past few weeks. Thanks for the info.

    What am I missing here with Hearn? He looks like a future org depth catcher to me.

    I understand that perspective. I just think he needs another offseason in the weight room and maybe a half year at AAA? To be honest, I think him repeating AAA wouldn't be a bad idea. Overall he's held his own while being almost 5 years younger than the average age. I'd call that a successful season imo.
