  1. I still find it funny that it was Gray's turn in the rotation to throw Weds and the Cardinals chose to hold him back to go against us on extra days rest. They ended up losing both games on Weds. Lost 2 of 3 against the Royals when they didn't have to go against Ragans/Lugo. I would feel pretty good about splitting with them all things considered - especially with them luckily missing Steele/Imanaga for the second series in a row...
  2. Bowden also saying the Braves have shown interest in Bellinger - Phillies and Braves battling it out for him would be interesting.
  3. They don't have a choice with the DH tomorrow. If there wasn't a DH, they could of went Assad/Wes/Taillon. Someone has to pitch the extra game.
  4. He has done better picking lately. It was a difficult spot for him to be in learning 1b, while also experimenting with Morel at 3b and like you mentioned, Swanson having some uncharacteristic throws to 1b. The range and athleticism was apparent from day one. One thing I will say that he also has seemed to get better at is understanding when and when not to move to far to his right. Early in the season, he got caught venturing out too far on plays Nico had under control and then they didn't have anyone covering 1b. Little adjustments like that have helped.
  5. Hendricks might absolutely get rocked tonight, but he's been a Cardinal killer his entire career. Not sure Drew is a better option. Against the Cardinals: Career - 172 IP 2.62 ERA 2023 1GP 7 IP 2 Runs 2024 1GP 4.1 IP 2 Hits 0 Runs (Wicks injury game when Hendricks was horrible and coming out of the BP) And unless I missed a recent update, Assad was trending as the starter tomorrow.
  6. I could get on board with Brecht. I'm a sucker for a good splitter though, so I'm hoping Yesavage is there. In my limited knowledge of our minor league pitching development, it seems like we haven't been able to successfully add a realiable 3rd pitch to our higher end arms that didn't have one to begin with (Brown, Wes, etc), yet anways. You can absolutely make a 2 pitch pitcher work and we've done that successfully with multiple guys with different fastball shapes and breaking ball shapes. I still dream of Brown showing up next year with a devastating split or much improved change.
  7. Mikolas isn't great but he's owned us over his career. 110 IP 2.62 ERA 3.13 FIP. We're due.
  8. Mastro has been an absolute treat to watch at 3b these last couple weeks. Consider me impressed.
  9. This is fun. I wish the entire season was this fun.
  10. I’d much rather go with Chapman than trying to play musical chairs with our defense. What’s stopping Bellinger from just playing CF next year? Why force him to 1b? There’s a couple different ways they can approach next year (If Belli’s still on the team) - Go elite defense across the board with Happ/PCA/Belli with Suzuki at DH, Chapman at 3b and Jansen at catcher. Or go with more offense with Happ/Belli/Suzuki and your new bat at DH(or RF), and still sign/trade for a 3b and Jansen. PCA is your late inning base runner/defensive replacement. Still try like hell to land Soto and then move a guy afterwards if you are fortunate enough to land him.
  11. Agree with Tom here. You’ve got a good thing going with Busch at 1b, no need to get cute there. Get an actual 3b next year.
  12. Yea I've been penciling in Bellinger on next years team, unless he's moved at the deadline. Before PCA's injury, it seemed like Belli in RF, PCA in CF, and Suzuki at DH against RHP was what the Cubs were going with.
  13. I think we'll see something like that once they get further and further out of contention. Now if they stay in the WC hunt, that's when things will get interesting. I agree, that time period to give him some rest would be great 🙂
  14. Skenes is absolutely shoving against MIL right now.
  15. It’s Bowden again, but a little more Belli chatter -
  16. I want Soto or a true top tier bat just as much as the next guy, but I think we have to be realistic here. With the pending FA class and the players who we think at this time could/will be available, I realistically don't see a path to us landing the true big bat that you or others are describing (Unless Jed shocks the world with Soto). Heck, even Paredes is an extreme longshot to land. If folks would be disappointed with landing Paredes, who's value add at 3b over what we currently have would help this team tremendously, then I don't think they are going to be satisfied with the off-season.
  17. Without analyzing the data, I'm sure he'd lose a couple HRs due to Wrigley's deeper LF dimensions, but he would probably also gain some wind aided homers in the summer. I know the under the hood data is not ideal for him, but we're going on year 3 of him beating it due to his dead pull fly ball nature. He's basically been a neutral defender at 3b, only 25, and under control for 3 more seasons after this. I'd rather go that route (cost considered) vs trading for Alonso.
  18. I'm still on the Paredes train. Adds a nice middle of the order bat, fixes 3b, and is controlled through 2027. Seems like he should be the no brainer trade target, with the Rays seemingly willing to deal and they have guys in their system ready to step in.
  19. His Krate is coming down as well, which is huge. 27.4% since June 1st (113 PA).
