  1. the man speaks truth not that this is anything new
  2. then he's totally not good at it. Hendry is like the 12-year old kid who spends all his waking hours reading about fighter jets. He knows a whole lot of info on them, but when he builds that model, no matter how much time and energy he put into it, the thing still doesn't compare to the real thing made by General Dynamics. yep, for one, the mouth decal is upside down, there's glue coming out of the nose propeller, the wing is crooked, the bottom turret is coming off and the kid seems more and more enamoured with the tube of glue than the actual plane. Good stuff, Sully. if theres such thing as a bad post implying that jim hendry sits in his office sniffing glue all day, i havent seen it.
  3. if you have it, ill give you like $20 for a copy of it
  4. I DIDNT KNOW ABOUT THE BROKEN HAND AM I ALLOWED TO CHANGE MY PREDICTION?
  5. I could see Piazza playing for the Italian, or David Aardsma for the Dutch, but how does one come to the conclusion that Dan Haren is even a possibility for the Dutch? 100% Irish Father, 100% Mexican mother, so how does Haren get on the roster of the Dutch? WBC is a joke. good decision danny i really think the whole thing should be nothing but angel, ranger, cardinal, and astro players
  6. beat me to it, i was going to post that much thanks to da len!
  7. The question is, will Joe Morgan mention Bonds more than he'll mention the great Joe Morgan? If you took a drink every time Joe Morgan referred to his career or the Big Red Machine, how long would it take to get drunk?[/i] Maybe we'll have a Joe Morgan drinking game thread? let's do this
  8. this is pretty much how i feel too. i'd love to have hughes around if there was a comparable advisor on the statistical side and both worked directly underneath a general manager who gave credence to both stats and scouts. i dont think we have that though.
  9. FYI, this is a Cubs message board. fyi youre on my ignore list
  10. a better comparison would be len vs jesus instead of len vs satan
  11. i dont care
  12. i think i want to change my name here at nsbb from Treebeard to sabermetric friendly man.
  13. was jim bowden in college from 1978-1997? can anybody else figure out what those numbers mean?
  14. RETURN OF DA SPARKLE
  15. Bengie Molina: 295/336/446, 15 HR, 69 RBI, 41/27 K/BB, IsoP 110 Michael Barrett: 276/345/479, 16 HR, 61 RBI, 61/40 K/BB, IsoP 134 A bit bigger difference than I expected, but not much, and entirely in IsoP. Wouldn't Molina's better defense cancel out Barrett's slightly better slugging? I'm not anti-Barrett, I'm just thinking of trade currency and ways to improve the OVERALL team here. Like I said before, that was a career year for Molina. Aside from this past year, he's never had an OBP over .320, and for his career he barely cracks a .700 OPS(84 career OPS+, yikes). He'll be 32 this summer and age normally isn't too kind to catchers. If he were several years younger I'd like it alot more, and I could understand the shift to a defense oriented catcher philosophically, but I don't think switching Molina for Barrett is the way to go, unless you can get a LOT in trade for Barrett. Exactly. Molina's only had one year where he's be in the same conversation as Barrett, so unless you discover that some team hugely overvalues Michael and you can get something crazy for him, there's little chance of this improving the team.
  16. oh boy none of our outfielders can hit and 2 of them are not really very good defensively and none of them can really throw but HEY AT LEAST THEY ALL HAVE ABOVE AVERAGE SPEED
  17. maybe we should trade the pitchers who are complaining about walkers defense since that makes for bad chemistry
  18. asking jim hendry to go get you jason michaels is like asking your unemployed alcoholic father to buy you a pony
  19. some players used to hammer nails into their bats because they thought it would give them more power. i doubt that actually helped.
  20. As Mark told it in "Cubs Nation" by Wojo (fantastic book, read it read it read it), the Cubs kept telling him that they'd get a deal done with him after they took care of their other offseason needs and then ultimately just didn't make him an offer, leaving him to fend for himself with very little time left in the offseason. He claimed that he would've understood if they'd kicked him out the door in favor of Choi as long as they'd been honest about it. http://www.baseball-reference.com/g/gracema01.shtml#TRANS Grace signed with the Diamondbacks on December 8th. That's hardly late in the offseason.
  21. i still say that if it's okay to just screw walker over after picking up his option and saying we wouldn't trade him, we should've benched maddux for the last month so his option didn't vest.
  22. definitely nomar for me. it still haunts me.
