  1. hooray for deciding to start clark on my fantasy team this week
  2. Will Carroll is saying that the Red Sox found something they didn't like in Drew's shoulder. Link
  3. my post isn't 100% incorrect just because i'm not enough of a gun nut to distinguish between assault and assault-style. i was replying to the fact that you were upset because "democrat states" think people should have to have licenses to have guns. the assault factor, or lack thereof, plays a very small role. also, stop acting like you enjoy my posts, you're killing my reputation.
  4. haha pie's really going to end up in the nicaraguan league
  5. Oakland's guy is hurt, and has been for a while. Link
  6. Please  So, I've looked at this a few hundred times and I still cant figure out what was so disagreeable with the above statement. Wanna help me? I consider the GM's of the past 2 WS champs baseball "guys" They are not going anywhere. Walt Jocketty might be a baseball guy, but the Cardinals definitely have some very smart stat geek type people working for them.
  7. Dewan, in the Fielding Bible, said Taveras should have won the gold glove in 2005, and Taveras ranks near the top of most advanced metrics. I'm not saying I want him - far from it - if the Cubs trade for him, I'm selling all my tickets again this year - but defense is the one positive he brings. I'll agree that I've always thought Taveras was a very good defensive cf. What would be hilarious if we traded for Willy would be to see if Hendry still let Barrett go after next season in favor of a defensive-minded catcher. Can you imagine a bottom of the order like Taveras-Izturis-Blanco?
  8. what? everyone knows that anyone who wants to have an assault rifle should be able to have one without having to get a permit, even if they are on probation and have prior gun charges. also, tank johnson being deprived of a an assault rifle is hurting our national defense.
  9. for those curious, nate silver just posted this on bp's new blog-type thing 2006 projection results
  10. Far be it from me to question you, but I'm just curious as to how you came to this conclusion. I've read some pretty convincing arguments that suggests that pitchers would be fine in a four man rotation.
  11. Computer projections. Not as accurate as PECOTA (which is probably the best at projecting position players) but pretty good. when are the 2006 pecota cards going to be released? early next year. they usually come out at the end of january/beginning of february, and i remember reading somewhere that they were planning on getting them out there a little earlier this year.
  12. I'm against using Rusch, but I really like the idea of tandem starters. And I don't think agents would mind so much if it were sold correctly. Z would be throwing fewer pitches per game, obviously, but he would be getting more innings per year, giving him a chance to increase strikeout numbers and some other counting stats. I like the idea too. However, there are other costs as well, mostly unimportant in the grand scheme, No wins for the guy who pitched first/second so no Cy Youngs, a team would also have to probably carry more pitchers which might limit bench options. There are probably a few more, but I'm not interested enough to continue. obviously, the solution is to show people that wins are a worthless stat that should not be considered when evaluating pitchers. unfortunately, our gm gets excited jason freaking marquis because he won more games than zito or something stupid like that.
  13. dwight schrute stole his sunglasses, there's no way he'd be able to hit during day games
  14. please provide me with a better predictor of future performance thanks! Why? Do you think minor league stats can be equated to major league performance absolutely? If so, you have your opinion already. great answer. you've really provided a lot of support for your position. Be reasonable. It wouldn't matter what he or anyone said to you. Your opinion won't ever change. Thanks for keeping an open mind! why should he change his opinion if no one gives him evidence as to why he should do so?
  15. i think it's time pie gets sent down to the Nicaraguan league
  16. ya know, Haren's a nice pitcher, but has he really proven anything other than being a Ted Lilly type starter? Nolasco looks to have a future, but 89 ERA+ isn't anything to set your hair on fire about. Hirsch hasn't done anything at all in the majors. I guess my point is, those trades look lopsided in terms of potential and what they brought the receiving team in the long term, but potential hasn't been met and the long term yet to be seen. Haren's already made the Cards look a little silly, but if Nolasco doesn't step his game up and Hirsch doesn't pan out...so what that those players were traded for those players? Haren accomplished something in each of the last two years that Lilly has not ever done. what, a few more innings? so what? it doesn't detract from my primary point. fine, Marquis hasn't proven to be anything beyond Lilly with a few more innings. at ages 23 and 24, haren put up seasons better than anything lilly has ever done despite being in the league since 1999.
  17. so is blanton and harden and probably everyone else on the team
  18. Boras trying to pay for Matsuzaka's "freedom". This is getting funnier and funnier every day. Hmmm ... I don't know why allowing Japanese players to buy out their own rights wouldn't be a better solution than the posting system. really? what if players couldn't afford it? seems like it'd be awfully likely to result in players being inextricably linked to whatever agent puts up the dough. also, the idea that boras wanted to do this suddenly and within the constructs of the current posting system is laughable.
  19. is that sarcasm? He hit the hell out of his head. This has been the most favorably called game for the bears in several weeks, I don't know why people are complaining aside from habit agreed
  20. belushi was worse than ever when they scored
  21. be worried: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v138/HulkamaniacUM/0AC95C0C-61A2-48D5-84EA-136F6161CD6F.jpg :-) Would you please shut the hell up about the Saints in a Bears gamethread? Don't get your panties in a bunch. ehhhh, i wasn't going to say anything but it is pretty annoying
  22. why couldn't they have gotten nelly to come sit in the booth? i hate jim belushi so much.
