  1. This is probably true, it just feels like he has leveled up over the past five years or so.
  2. Olbermann wasn't always like this, was he? I don't remember him being just so... old, male, and white... a couple of decades ago.
  3. It's baseball so any team has a chance on any specific day but... does Mexico really stand a chance against Japan tonight? I'm pulling for them but it's a long shot.
  4. Took me a few seconds and then I was like... Oh. Ohhhhhhhhhhh....
  5. Frankly I'm shocked about two things with the WBC: 1. How much I'm enjoying it 2. How little I care about Team USA
  6. Stroman having a very nice game tonight for PR.
  7. First, it happened to the Mets because *of course* it happened to the Mets. Second, I'm just glad it didn't happen to a Cardinals player, it would only give their fans another reason to storm the capitol.
  8. Seems like a pretty good reason to not only continue the WBC but increase its frequency. Personally, I've really enjoyed this year's tournament. A lot of fun watching teams like Great Britain and Nicaragua compete in pool play primarily with minor leaguers. [tweet] [/tweet]
  9. Well, this will be fixed when we migrate to the new software platform. Our advertising setup has a bunch of things disabled: politics, excessive skin, tobacco, etc. We take a small financial hit by eliminating politics but we feel it's worth it to never see a Donald Trump ad on any of our platforms. I suspect most of you agree that's for the best.
  10. I completely agree with this. The hit rate can be so much lower on these contracts and the team still comes out ahead (while the player enjoys financial security and fans are able to watch players stay in the same laundry for longer).
  11. We're not sure of anything quite yet but we're pretty confident the archives will be folded into the new install and once again become part of the forums as a single installation.
  12. I'm obviously not as informed as the rest of you but isn't Wrigley particularly brutal on hitters in April? Would it be expected for Mancini to struggle successfully elevating the ball early only to see those balls leave the park later in the season?
  13. Listening to Miller make an appearance on Effectively Wild reminds me how much more I enjoyed the show when he was on every other episode. No offense to Ben or Meg, they're also really good, but Sam's absurdist approach to baseball is more my speed.
  14. With the addition of Mancini, Bellinger, and Swanson there is a lot of potential production on offense but not a lot of guaranteed production on offense. It will be interesting to see how the Cubs betting on upside plays out in the early going (though both Swanson and Bellinger obviously bring significant defensive value with them).
  15. In the latest Wrigleyville Nation pod, they interview Dan Kaplan and he talks extensively about Marquee and the general RSN situation across sports. It's one of the most informative segments I've seen on the subject lately and is a great listen, I highly recommend it. https://www.wrigleyvillenation.com/post/podcast_ep303/
  16. Sam Miller is outstanding, I just found out he's back to writing on Twitter. Very much excite.
  17. I don't know how much it will expand viewership of the game but at the very least, I'm going to consider taking my young kids to a weeknight game now, something that was off the table in previous seasons, as we'd have to leave during the sixth inning at the very latest.
  18. This is a pretty good take, IMO. The upside is that Bellinger becomes a beast and you get the QO. The downside is that you paid a guy a bunch of money to be a very good defensive centerfielder, which the Cubs badly needed and can absolutely afford to do. It's exactly the kind of high upside, low downside play the Cubs should be dealing in right now.
  19. I love this. People (mostly slow hitters) have talked up the "strategy" (yawn) of getting a pitcher off his pace by adjusting your jock between every pitch but the real entertainment is, you know, watching actual baseball happen. And giving pitchers the ability to screw with timing while also doing it in a matter of five seconds is something that makes the game a better spectating experience for those of us "in the know" while also not boring us to death with circles around the mound and endless adjustments of batting gloves. I seriously do not understand a single person who is against the pitch clock. My "come to Jesus" moment was the pandemic when I went back and watched old World Series games. They were so much more fun! I didn't realize I missed that pace of baseball until I was so desperate for baseball that I went back and realized why I started to love the game in the first place.
  20. That doesn't really explain why he was amazing, exploded his kneecap, then immediately stopped being amazing.
  21. I definitely agree with this. Whatever happened to Yelich - I think it's a combo back/knee thing that he just can't work around - I don't see him returning to MVP levels (or, unfortunately, anywhere near that level). He can still be a productive player for awhile and might even eek out a four win season if the new defensive metrics continue to love him and he gets a lucky BABIP season or something along those lines. Given his exit velo, I could see that happening. But Bellinger... I think he has a good chance of a comeback. It might have taken just getting out of LA for whatever reason. The Dodgers are a fantastic org but sometimes, guys just can't get through a mental issue while working in a single organization. Maybe fresh faces around him open him up to different ideas and he comes back to form. I think it's a decent chance that happens and he resurrects his career.
  22. I'm going to investigate this some time during the season. I need to figure out what tools are available to me. This is something I've wanted to do for a long time, I just haven't carved out time to do it yet.
  23. Seeing some of these guys in short seasons is something I'll always miss from baseball pre-"owners getting greedy and gutting the minors for a few bucks".
  24. I believe it does but I've never enabled it because stuff like that tends to be used maliciously. It has a wider range of reactions available, though, I think I have about five enabled on both TD and BF.
