  1. According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the White Sox are very open for business (despite it being early June) and are open to dealing oft-injured star outfielder Luis Robert Jr. Robert, who is signed through 2025 with two team options in 2026 and 2027, is scuffling a little this year (92 OPS+) but was stellar last season, posting a 5.0 rWAR season for the White Sox. The Cubs' offense in May was terrible, posting the 25th wRC+ in baseball. If Robert is healthy, he's likely going to hit better as the season progresses. What would it take to pry Robert away from the Southside? View full rumor

  3. @Rex Buckingham If you're around this morning you can take the game thread today.
  4. Okay, now that the Cubs can't beat up the White Sox, we'll see if their offense has turned the corner.
  5. Whew. That was a close one last night. Damned near embarrassed themselves.
  6. I've been watching a lot of White Sox games lately (vs the Twins and Brewers) and if the Cubs don't win this game by 5+ runs, they should be ashamed of themselves. This Sox squad is one of the worst baseball teams I've ever seen, possibly on par with the 2003 Tigers.
  7. Today's game thread is @Rex Buckingham. If there is no thread up by 10:30 or so, jump ball.
  8. Cubs finally back in the win column yesterday and another matchup of surprisingly good young pitchers. I haven't paid attention to the Reds this season. With this cadre of young pitchers, why are they so far under .500?
  9. I'm taking the game thread today because I'm hosting my mother-in-law's birthday party today so if you believe in a deity, please pray for me. Also this is a really fun pitching matchup.
  10. The Twins are pretty exceptional at increasing pitcher velocity. I don't think they let go of Megill because of performance, I think they didn't like the guy. I vaguely remember him throwing a hissy over a demotion. Their mistake, obviously.
  11. Robert Murray of FanSided, appearing on the Baseball Insiders show, expressed skepticism that Oakland Athletics closer Mason Miller will be traded before the deadline. Miller, who isn't even arbitration eligible until the 2026 season, cannot become a free agent until after the 2029 season. Murray also expressed the opinion that if Miller is made available, it will be difficult to offer more than the Baltimore Orioles, who have a stacked farm system and nowhere to put many of their farmhands in the coming years. Miller is still only 25 years old and has an incredible 17 strikeouts per nine innings as of this writing. View full rumor

  13. Today's game thread candidate is @Bertz. If no game thread is up by 10:30 or so, jump ball.
  14. Okay, @PackLandVA is up for today's game thread. If there's no thread posted by 10:30am or so, it's a jump ball.
  15. Does Justin Steele get back on track today against the first-place Brewers?
  16. I doubt it. The Cubs are still in a playoff spot right now and given the new playoff format, I doubt they will fade so aggressively that they fall out of contention in the next two months.
  17. The Cards are on a bit of a heater, it'd be nice to see Shota shut them down tonight.
  18. Admittedly, I haven't been using mobile much the past couple of weeks. Which ad space? Are you talking about the footer ad that's affixed to the bottom of the screen or the content ads between posts?
  19. This is pretty common in a deep system and it's why I push back on moving beyond 20 prospects on the list. At some point, ranking prospects in order becomes a fruitless endeavor. After ten, I generally prefer to put prospects in "similar buckets", like "prospects 12 through 17 are essentially the same while 18 through 23 are one tier below them".
