  1. Bush League Stat. no it's not. it loses alot of meaning if the player consistently puts up an astronomical batting average, but it's not a bush league stat for most players in baseball. So isod has no value to it. If you can't use it for everyplayer, then why use it at all. what the hell are you talking about? Im not a big stat guy like you guys seem to be. Some of these stats are a waste of time in my opinion. BTW, isod means International Society of Orbital Disorder.  i'm sorry, i didn't understand what you were trying to say. go on appreciating baseball, just don't ever assert that you understand it. Relax. ???? Just because I dont use the International Society of Orbital Disorder stat doesn't mean I don't understand baseball. no, but i've seen enough of your posts to make that assumption.
  2. i'm so glad that depodesta isn't in charge there anymore.
  3. I just noticed Westbrook's g/f ratio - he is an extreme groundball pitcher. I'm not sure how that would play out if he were on the Cubs, but at least we have half of a great defensive infield. Personally, I'd like to see the Cubs take a shot a Jason Jennings first. groundballs are easier for everyone, not just stellar defensive players. if a pither gets a lot of them, it can't be a bad thing.
  4. so, if we sign schmidt and trade for westbrook (assuming that marshall and eyre are involved in the deal--i'd also include wuertz before i included marmol): 1. zambrano 2. schmidt 3. westbrook 4. hill 5. prior/miller that's a staff that we can win with.

  7. ugh, IsoD is important for every player.

  9. Bush League Stat. you must be joking.
  10. i'm not a huge wells fan. he'll have to improve his isod before he'd be worth any kind of package.
  11. Link OK people, the job is open!... go for it! :D terry boers had some choice words for her yesterday.
  12. You don't have to be good to be a backup. You just have to not be bad and not make mistakes. Especially with this team. Orton is bad. Better? a lot of QB's are bad during their first year in the league.
  13. A great backup and a great QB are not the same thing. Griese is a great backup. He's got starting on his resume, he's played well and won a lot. he costs too much to be a great backup. as far as orton, he's got starting on his resume and has won the majority of games he's started. he hasn't played particularly well, but he was starting as a rookie from game one and never got to use the shotgun, which he used on nearly every snap in college. what's better is that he is cheap and will be cheap for an extended period of time. don't assume he hasn't learned a thing from 2 years in the NFL, either. i think he's the perfect backup.
  14. I don't have a problem including Dempster in a deal. Would it really be that hard to replace him as closer? We got Dempster off the trash heap and made him a closer. Not all that hard to do something similar again. Certainly if it means acquiring an innings-eating SP----I'd trade him. Wood. Or Howry or Wuertz. any of them would do, but i'd like to see wood in that role. he was near-unhittable out of the bullpen in 05--with a bad shoulder.
  15. next year, however, i think orton will make griese unnecessary. does anyone know what the cap hit would be if we cut griese? on second thought, a trade may be in order. I think the cap hit would be the same with a trade or cut. Rex's cap number could be relatively low still, even if he resigns. then i say cut him. the bears would have an adequate backup with 2 years of experience, some of it as a starter. a decent 3rd stringer could be found anywhere, including the later rounds of the draft. Why wouldn't you trade and try to get something? I'd hold off on that decision until at least summer camp. Rex still has to get through the rest of this season. And I'm not convinced Orton will develop into a great backup yet. by definition, backups aren't supposed to be "great". cut him only if you can't get something of value in return. but it's likely that what you receive in return will be a burden on the cap as well. this will be especially vital if the bears decide that they need to franchise briggs to make a run at the superbowl next season. i like the idea of franchising briggs, as harris won't be up for an extension until the following offseason.
  16. I don't think it's enough. There's still only 2 legit power threats in Lee & Ram in the middle of the order. You've got to consider Jones a power threat don't you? He's not a #3 hitter, but for the 3rd or 4th bat in the lineup he's not bad. Barrett falls in as a quality bat too...its not the 27 yankees, but it has the potential to be pretty solid. With 6 out of the 8 guys in the lineup (minus Izturis and Derosa), you have the potential for 160 HRs. right there. The middle of that lineup just looks a tad weak to me. Put Barrett #2, hit Murton 6th, DeRosa 7th, and then replace Jones with a better player. I'd feel better about it. Or just get some darn pitching 8) i've been advoacting the trade of jones, dempster, and marmol for freddy garcia for a while. westbrook would do, but we need to trade for a pitcher. if we could get rid of jones, sign soriano and put drew in center and soriano in right, i'd be happy. the ability to include dempster in any deal for a starter would probably be necessary, though.

  18. In another thread--maybe the rotoworld rumors thread, not sure--there was talk about Murton possibly being used in drawing Westbrook from Cleveland. If they're shopping Murton as trade bait, then we'll likely end up settling for Soriano/Drew/Jones. The problem with trading Murton is, he'll probably be undervalued on the market. I hope they don't wind up shipping him off, if that's the case, if only because we won't get a fair return. Oh well, I could live with Soriano, Drew, Jones.. :) Haha, yeah that would be nice. What's that payroll going to be this year again? 150 mil? Still 2 or 3 SPs to sign, Jim. I'm assuming they wanna stay under the luxury tax thing, which I believe is 148 mil. I'm guessing they'll settle in more at the $115mil level, which won't leave room for all these proposed signings. Also, I'm starting to wonder if Hendry looked at the poor pitching the Cards got away with last year, and feels he needs offense. Let the young arms come around, deal with Miller, Prior......put Marshall in there full time. Then try to pound the ball all year. i don't like the idea of neglecting pitching. the cards barely made the playoffs last year, and at 83 wins, would be very unlikely to win the central next season. the cubs still need pitching.

  20. That was you?!? http://forumimages.footballguys.com/style_emoticons/default/bowtie.gif LOL.....sorry Chocolate :) No Rex-bashing allowed, darn it!!! ...but colorful nicknames are. Will it be Turnoversaurus Rex next weekend? 8) are you one of the guys who wants to play kyle orton because he "didn't lose games" last season? apparently, people forget about the 5 INT cincinnati game. i'll never understand it. not many quarterbacks can play well when their line is being demolished. rex has made some bad throws this year, no doubt, but he's 12-4 over the course of his career-he doesn't lose many ballgames either....and he's never had a 5 INT performance while throwing a minimum of passes. I don't think Soul was trying to bash Grossman at all, despite the reference to the "Turnoversaurus Rex," nickname. In fact, he made the exact same point you just made (about QB's not playing well under pressure) on the page before this. LOL, now I see how easy it is to be suddenly labeled a "Rex basher." Sulley, I'm a huge Rex fan. Just trying to make jokes and have a little fun, that's all. my bad, the post sort of snowballed on me. :D
  21. i will give you scientific analysis: the cubs have never outbid anyone for a major free agent. once, macphail was super-excited because the cubs simply were among the finalists for mike hampton.
  22. Scottie was pretty strong and he can't get taller than Scottie unless he isn't done growing. I don't think he is quite as athletic as Scottie either. i never said "taller", i said "bigger", and i'd say that he's bigger right now.
  23. iirc, cotts started the 2004 futures game. IIRC, he also made his first career start at Yankee Stadium and got hammered. It was a pretty questionable decision. wasn't saying that he was invulnerable as a starter, just that he was regarded as a starter clear up until he made the major leagues. Yeah, that one bad start kind of relegated him to LOOGY. He's kind of a two pitch pitcher. I'd compare him to everything I've heard about Kei Igawa. i listen to the score all the time when it comes in clearly--i'd imagine that hendry will keep him in the pen and deal eyre, who has a lot of value right now.
  24. yes yes, we've all been to bears games.
